We have Impact, Annual Conference, VBS, Summer Fun, the Youth have several trips planned… plus all of our normal “church stuff.” It is easy to get super busy, and it seems like churches have a lot of “hectic” seasons. We think about faith and we think about the hard questions, doubt, uncertainty, SIN, and all of the other weighty things we throw around in the church and forget that a relationship with Christ brings Freedom, Joy, Hope, and Love. So while you are working hard this summer at Summer Fun and VBS, remember that we do all of this for the Love and Joy of Christ. In worship during June we are going to continue on with Paul’s Letter to the Romans as we explore the foundations of our Faith and Salvation. Then, in July we are going to cut loose and worship will be centered on the “Fun” and “Joy” of faith. I have no idea what that is going to look like, but it feels appropriate for summer to be filled with joy. From Our Pastor:

The Summer time is officially upon us! There is so much going on at and around YUMC

it can make your head spin trying to keep up with it all. We have

Impact, Annual Conference, VBS, Summer Fun, the Youth have

several trips planned… plus all of our normal “church stuff.” It is

easy to get super busy, and it seems like churches have a lot of

“hectic” seasons.

I will be the first to admit that sometimes I take faith too

seriously. We think about faith and we think about the hard

questions, doubt, uncertainty, SIN, and all of the other weighty

things we throw around in the church and forget that a relationship

with Christ brings Freedom, Joy, Hope, and Love. So while you are

working hard this summer at Summer Fun and VBS, remember that

we do all of this for the Love and Joy of Christ.

In worship during June we are going to continue on with

Paul’s Letter to the Romans as we explore the foundations of our Faith and Salvation. Then, in

July we are going to cut loose and worship will be centered on the “Fun” and “Joy” of faith. I

have no idea what that is going to look like, but it feels appropriate for summer to be filled with

joy. So help me out and if you have some Bible verses that have always given you Hope and

Joy please share them with me so we can incorporate them into our worship together.

Remember this summer to find rest and joy.

Grace & Peace,

Pastor Jonathan

Graduates will be recognized during worship on June 2.

Hikes scheduled for June for YUMC Hikers:

6/1 Saturday, 9:30 a.m., moderate hike, 5? miles, Isaacs trailhead to Carter falls. I only know part of this

trail. In Elkin, on Business 21, go north and turn left at Carter Mill Rd. Just before Brookfall Dairy Rd, there is

a parking area and trailhead on right. We will meet there and arrange to take a car over to Carter falls to leave

for return trip. Bring a bag lunch and water. We can stop at Grassy Creek winery if you wish to, or at least at

Byrd campground for pit a stop and hopefully ice cream.

6/13 Thursday, 10:30 a.m. Bethania Black Walnut Bottoms trail, easy hike,

1 1/2miles, meet at Historic Bethania Visitors center parking lot on Bethania Rd.

There are restrooms. We can stop at Bethania Mill afterward for a snack and

some browsing if you wish.

6/22 Saturday, Craggy Gardens; carpool from church, (or maybe we can get

the van??) leaving at 9 a.m. I want to go to Craggy Gardens when everything is

in bloom (mid-June). This is my only weekend open day. It takes about 2 ½ hrs

to get there, but is supposed to be amazing. The hike is considered easy to moderate, 2 miles or so; I haven’t

been so unsure. Bring a bag lunch and water.

Please, please let me know if you plan to attend any of these hikes or if you are not able to. Email me or

call/text me at 336.244.8196. Thank you. Deb Larkin, Coordinator

Missions: The June mission emphasis is Summer Fun. We are having the Summer Fun

Program again this year at our church -- our seventh year! The dates are June 25 through

July 25 each Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm except July 4. We are doing

only 5 weeks this year because of the school schedule and Impact. We will provide lunch

(free USDA) for kids in our community, spiritual nourishment, literacy assistance, and

fun with about 65 kids who have completed K-5. As we prepare for Summer Fun, think

about how you will be able to help. See the Volunteer Sign-up form below. We need people who love children

and want them to succeed. Working together we can make a difference. This year we are again focusing on

reading. Sandy Steele, Linda Baity, Gingi Parker, and Mildred Carter are coordinating Summer Fun this year.

We have some funding from last year's grant but will need more money for take-home food. We also needs

books for 4th & 5th grade, especially for boys.

Checks to Yadkinville UMC designated for Summer Fun and loose plate offerings will go to this

project. Most of the money will be used for take-home food.

Mildred Carter, Project Coordinator
