Next deadline is April 1st Greeting Airstreamers, As I write the President Corner this month, winter is more than halfway over and spring is just a few weeks away. Diane and I have been busy since our last column. We took a trip to Florida in January and we stayed at some of the state’s wonderful state parks. If you ever get the chance, we highly recommend Henderson Beach State Park. It is located right on the Gulf Coast in the city of Destin Beach. Every campsite is just a short walk to beautiful white sand beaches, and it is close to some of the best shopping and dining in the FL panhandle. This campground makes our list of top 5 state parks! While in Florida, I met with Ted and Donna Smith, and we spent a morning review- ing our Constitution and By-laws making updates to reflect recent changes in the club. We made sure the Constitution and By-laws now reference us as an Air- stream Club, and we future proofed it by adding wording to cover future electronic communications. I have submitted it to WBAC home office for review and will pre- sent it to the members for a vote at our spring meeting. By the time you read this, we will be on our way back to Florida for our first rally of the season. We are heading to the Suwannee River Rendezvous Rally in Mayo, Florida. The Rally is hosted by the Florida Airstream Club and looks like a great event. We expect to stay on the road until May, returning after attending my nephew’s retirement from the Air Force. Speaking of rallies, our rally season will be here before you know it, and it is never too soon to start making your summer plans. In this special rally issue of the Grapevine, all the rally hosts have submitted brief articles about their rally. Some of the rallies are familiar, and there are new rallies and events being held for the first time. We are planning to attend as many as we can, but have some conflicts with other planned travel, like going too Loveland for our first International rally as club members. Greeting Airstreamers, As I write the President Corner this month, winter is more than halfway over and spring is just a few weeks away. Diane and I have been busy since our last column. We took a trip to Florida in January and we stayed at some of the state’s wonderful state parks. If you ever get the chance, we highly recommend Henderson Beach State Park. President’s Corner continued………. There is still one hole in our rally schedule. We do not have a fall installation rally on the calendar. The month of September is wide open with no rallies scheduled! I am hoping that someone in the club will step forward with an idea for a rally that can be added to the schedule. It could be something simple like a weekend at one of our great state parts. I am confident that we will close this hole in the next couple weeks. Well that’s all for now - we need to finish packing for our next Airstream adventure. See you down the road… Randy & Diane Hill 30876

THE GRAPEVINE—March 2020

Upcoming Finger Lakes Fun Fun and Games Joint Rally May 14-17

Are you tired of winter and looking forward to getting your Airstream ready to go again? The Fun and Games Rally is going to be packed full of all types of games that are suited for everyone. I recently looked up how to play Bunco on You Tube. Although there are different rules depending on where you play, the concept is the same. The very next day after watching the video, I found that a church was sponsoring a Bunco night, so I joined them to see how it was done. It was lots of fun and all you have to really know is how to roll the dice. The fun part is that you keep changing tables so you get to enjoy oth-ers. At one of the International Rallies, the Regions competed in Beanbag Baseball. I am hoping to have the board built so we can enjoy it at our rally. There will be different outdoor games, most of what can be brought inside if need-ed. Please feel free to bring any that you have including table games that you like to play with a small group. Fishing in the pond may be done but the fish have to be released. Friday morning, we will leave the campground and carpool to Ithaca and take the short easy walk to Taughannock Falls. This is handicap accessible. It is always great to meet new people so time will be planned for small groups to get together and meet new people. If you have new members in your club, this will provide a great opportunity for them to get to know the people in your club as well as others in the state. Because of all my interactions with other Airstream members, it is great to meet them again at Region and International Rallies. Remember, that you need to get your reservation to Sally Kerr by April 15 as the reser-vations have to be made at the campground. After that, the sites will be released to the public. It is first come, first served. When the available sites are filled, you will be notified that you are on the waiting list.

Upcoming Finger Lakes Fun Streamin’ into 2020 Reunion May 9, 2020

I think of this get-together as our “season opener” be-fore we get busy with warm weather travels. These few hours are a time to “reunion” with fellow Airstreamers. We’re mixing it up a bit this year and trying something new. The Executive Business Meeting will be held from 10:30-11:30. Everyone is welcome. But, business meetings aren’t everyone's “thing.” I get that. So, for those who want to come for lunch and socialize then join us late morning. We will officially start off the “Reunion” at noon with time to get to know one anoth-er, enjoy a catered barbecue lunch, visit with Colton RV sponsors, and have a brief update from Randy Hill, President. If the weather cooperates we will have some outdoor games available.

I am EXTREMELY pleased to announce that Colton RV has graciously agreed to sponsor our lunch!! Thank you so much!! Your invitation is in the mail and should have arrived by now. Let me

know if yours went missing. RSVP form is enclosed. Vince’s Park Pavilion is just off I-90 and easy to find. Seneca Falls is the exact center of the majority of our NYFLAC membership!!! Map is provided at the end of this newsletter.

Oneida Lake Rally June 5-7, 2020

This rally is graciously hosted by Ken Zoanetti and Shirley Trubia. They open up their front yard that sits right on the lake!! How awe-some is that? However, there’s one little catch—the weather. Ken tells me that their yard is typically dry most years. As they will be in Florida until the 1st of May they won’t know about the conditions until they return. Stay tuned for further details. We can’t do much about Mother Nature.

THE GRAPEVINE—March 2020

Upcoming Finger Lakes Fun Airstreams in the Park July 17-19 Join us for a unique urban rally in the Village of Bergen N.Y. Our Airstreams will be taking over Bergen’s Hickory Park, located in the center of the village for a weekend of camping and fun. On Saturday, we will visit the Genesee Country Village and Museum for a Civil War Re-enactment and Encampment. Troops will battle through the historic Village commemorating the conflict that claimed more American lives than all other wars combined. Hear stories from the perspective of the soldiers and allies from both sides of the conflict as you tour the museum’s historic village buildings. Saturday evening we will meet at the Sage Pavilion across the street from the park for a modern barbecue din-ner catered by Rochester’s own award-winning Good Smoke Barbecue and evening entertainment. Airstreams of Buffalo (Colton RV) will be on site displaying some of the latest Airstream models. The village of Bergen is located 20 miles west of Rochester and 5 miles from the NY Thruway exit 47, right off of RT490. The village has a strong connection with the past with its many Victorian homes and historic down-town and sidewalks canopied by old growth trees. People choose Bergen because they want the kind of life and values that characterize America’s small towns. The village park offers a playground for our younger guests and a nearby 9 hole Disc Golf Course. From the park, you are within walking distance from local churches, res-taurants and bakery. Please note, this is a dry camping weekend (no hook up are available). Planning is still in process, so expect additional updates as we get closer to the event. Registration will open up mid-March. For additional infor-mation contact the rally hosts at: [email protected] or [email protected].

Hosted by Jim & KC Gillio and Randy & Diane Hill.

Rally in Owego August 14-16 2020 Come to what has been recognized as the “coolest” small town in America! Owego, NY is 20 Miles West on RT 17/I-86 from Binghamton, NY in Hickories Park, a coun-ty park. We will have a dedicated area of the park with electric, water and available dump station. Other sites in the park do have sewers if necessary. This area has a lot of touring possibilities, including museums covering the birthplace of IBM and Link (inventor of flight/space simulators). Binghamton is the carousel capital of America with six (or is it eight) working carousel’s available for free rides. Finger Lakes wineries are also available. Owego has a shopping district close to the campground. Quality entertainment and a unit luncheon will be available. Extended stays can be arranged. We have hosted this rally in the past with very favorable comments! A shelter will be available for meals and entertainment.

THE GRAPEVINE—March 2020

Upcoming Finger Lakes Fun …... New Rally added to our Schedule! One of my objectives as President of our club has been to expand our re-lationship with our local dealer, Colton RV. After taking office last fall, I met with David Testa and Rich Gambino at their Orchard Park dealership. We discussed a number of ways how we could work together to grow our rela-tionship beyond sponsoring the club directory each year.

I recently met with Colton RV to firm up the ideas we discussed last fall. Colton RV expressed interest in supporting some of our rallies and events this year, and they agreed to provide some sponsorship to our Streamin’ into 2020 Reunion in May & the Airstreams in the Park rally in July. In turn, as a club, we will return the favor by supporting Colton RV as well. We also confirmed a new rally for this fall. In October, Colton would like to host us at their dealership for a weekend. The plans for the rally include Friday night happy hour and Saturday evening dinner. Colton has also offered to winterize club members’ rigs for free for those who can leave them during the week. The date is tentatively scheduled for either October 16-18 or 23-25, whichever weekend doesn’t conflict with a Buffalo Bills home game. (nobody wants to drive home in that traffic with an Airstream in tow). I am looking for someone to co-host this rally with Diane and me.

Rich shared an update of their rebranding of the Orchard Park dealership to Airstream of Buffalo. On April 16-17, they will be hosting their grand opening weekend. They will have several new 2020 Airstreams on display and fun events planned, like a wine and cheese tasting. More information about this event will be in next month’s Grapevine. I

encourage club members to stop by the dealership and support our friends at Colton during their grand opening event. They are doing a lot for our club, anything we can do to support them would be greatly appreciated. Submitted by Randy Hill

Create Your Own Campout!! Dates are whenever you want

Last year at our May Business Meeting we discussed how sometimes it can be difficult to attend planned rallies. Many of us travel in the summer or have family obligations. Yet we also want to see our AS friends. SOLUTION!! Create your own. If you’re making plans to go out for a week or weekend and feel inclined to let other know…..share it. Are you going hiking in Ithaca? Going to your favorite State Park? Heading to Lake Ontario for a few days? Send out an invitation to the club and invite others to join you. Nothing fancy. No planned dinners. No itineraries. Just fellow trailer travelers. Charlie & I did this last September at Sampson State Park and had a wonderful time with Roy, Helen, Mary and Mark! We made new friends and had a great time along the way. *If you want to announce a “create your own campout” let me know & I will send the details out via email. I can also place information on our website and the National website.

See You Down the Road……. Gary Russo, 1st Vice President

It’s winter time in the Finger Lakes and what do you do up here during the winter? Embrace it! The weather has now turned from a cold rain to that white fluffy stuff they call snow. Over the last 24 hours, we received over 6 inches of that white stuff. Some people watch the snow falling from inside their houses; others embrace it. I spent Friday night after getting home and Saturday afternoon cleaning out the driveway. Took me more time to get my winter garb on than to blow out the driveway.

After chores, I (oops, can’t forget my better half) we took a ½ mile snowshoe walk around the neighborhood. The sun was out, and there was little to no breeze! We spoke to one neighbor and threw a Frisbee to his dog. No one else was out so it was a time to enjoy nature, play in the snow, and get a workout. Great time to exercise out-side instead of the gym routine.

Weather report from the ground hog. Groundhog Day 2020: Punxsutawney Phil saw no shadow, pre-dicted early Spring. Plan to have a great time this year at the Rallies.

Check out the site photos for the “Streamin into Spring 2020 Reunion.”

Vince’s Park Lodge in February

On that note, we are in the final stages of planning the welcome back kickoff gathering. A small group of us ventured out to visit Vince’s Park Lodge. YES, it was snow covered during our visit, but there is green space with swings so this is a kid friendly area, a covered area with picnic tables if we have sun or rain clouds and finally indoor space if it’s on the cool side. No matter the weather that day, we have a place for you. Bring your yard toys (i.e. bocce balls) or play-ing cards to mingle. We will have food, fun and a place for you to renew old friendships and make new acquaintances with fellow Airstreamers. So, we have a great space to start the year off!

Safe travels to those on the road traveling North. Gary

Upcoming Region 2 & National Fun 2020 Pets & Paws National Rally This is a joint rally between the Cape Cod Massachusetts Airstream Club and the New England Airstream Club. This rally has been held for 10 years, the last two years being a National Event Rally. It is held to coincide with National Pet Day. This is an extremely popular rally. You do not need to own a pet to attend, as this is in celebration of everyone’s past and present pets. We have homemade and store-bought treats for the pets. On Saturday of the Rally, members volunteer to do a spring clean up of the Pilgrim Bark Park, after which Lilli Hamnqvist will lead a stroll, with your pets, through downtown Provincetown. This Rally is held at the Coastal Acres Campground in Provincetown, MA, and is a short 10 minute walk into the heart of town. Provincetown is a beautiful coastal town at the end of Cape Cod with great restaurants and plenty of gift shops to explore. On Satur-day evening we all go to a local seafood restaurant and enjoy local fresh seafood. Rally registration flyer can be found on the Cape Cod website: capecodmassachusetts.airstreamclub.net

Who’s going to Loveland?

Looking at the International map it looks as if western NY will be well represented!! This will be the first International Rally for several of us. We’d love to link up while we’re there. If you’re going drop a quick note to Randy Hill and let him know you’ll be attending. The more the merrier!!!
