Town Creek Farm
GENETICS IS ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT investments cattlemen make. At TownCreek Farm, we’re breeding animals thatare more productive, efficient, andprofitable for us and for our customers.Town Creek Farm’s proactive and commonsense approach to producing cattle ensurescustomers of healthy, long-lasting, problemfree cattle that are environmentally rootedto the southern half of the country.
Our genetic program is designed tosupply functional, long-lasting bulls thatmake positive impacts to bottom-lines ofcommercial cattle operations. Our bulls aregenetically bred to sire fertile, repro-ductively sound replacement femaleswithout sacrificing pounds or carcassquality. Our crafted maternal genetics buildthe right size cow. We are committed topreserving calving ease and maternal traitsof Brangus cattle. Town Creek Farmconsiders fertility as the highest valuedtrait to improving our customers’ bottom-line. It's impossible to wean a 650-poundcalf from a female who didn't conceive orwho lost her calf due to calving difficulties.
We take our responsibility as a seed-stock producer very seriously. It’s our goalto help your cow herd become moreprofitable. If our cattle don’t work for us,they won’t work for you.
REPUTATION, PROVEN GENETICS, AND FORAGEBASED BREEDING PROGRAM
Town Creek Farm focuses on producing forage-based registered Brangus and Ultrablack cattle in areal world environment much like environments of
commercial cattlemen. That makes good, common and economic sense for us, and for ourcustomers.
The Town Creek Fcow herd foundationoriginated from reputation Cow Creek Ranchgenetics. We’ve continued the samediscipline to fertility, forage substantiality
and production efficiency. Our practical breeding plan results in a
calf crop that offers consistency and value. Our cattle must be fertile, easy fleshing, maintain sound feet and legs, haveexcellent udders and dispositions, andraise a calf on their own every year.
MATCHING CATTLE TO YOUR ENVIRONMENTProfitability is directly tied to cattle adapted to
your environment and to cattle that require lesslabor and less management. If your cow biotype isnot suited to your environment and climate, you’renot getting the most from your cows. Conceptionrates, hours foraging, breathing rates, milkproduction, and body condition all affect per-formance levels of your females.
Our slick-haired Brangus and Ultrablack cows fitour ecosystem better than any other cows. Duringperiods when intake is limited, i.e. drought orwinter, or periods of oppressive heat and humidity, these efficient Town Creek Farm females are able tomaintain their weight and condition because oflower maintenance requirements and their abilityto convert forages into more pounds of beef.
PROACTIVE COMMITMENT TO OUR CUSTOMERSWHOLE HERD JOHNES TESTING. Town Creek Farm hasproactively Johnes fecal-tested our cow herdannually for nearly a decade. We believe it justmakes good sense to proactively participate in aJohne’s disease prevention and testing program. Inaddition, our sale bulls are tested, giving ourcustomers confidence that their Johnes-free bullsare backed by a Johnes-free cow herd.
TRICHOMONIASIS TESTING AND PREVENTION. EveryTown Creek Farm sale bull is Trichomoniasis tested30 days prior to sale day. Trich testing is ourproactive, common-sense strategy to ensuring thatcustomer concerns are always first.
BVD-PI TESTING. Town Creek engages in acomprehensive approach to maintaining a BVDPI-free herd using biosecurity and testing. We deemthis approach as a responsible action to providingour customers added peace of mind.
BULLS DEVELOPED FOR LONG-TERM SUCCESSTown Creek bulls are grown on high roughage,
forage-based, low-energy rations composed of up to60 percent haylage, which is produced andharvested on Town Creek Farm. Bulls have unlimitedaccess to pasture or hay. This diet eliminatespotential of overfeeding and ensures sound footed, durable, and functional bulls with no joint stress, developmental pressures or hoof issues, which aretypically generated from commonly fed, high starch rations.

OUR FUTURE IS IN GOOD HANDS – This summer Town Creek Farm wasprivileged to have four young interns working along side our regularcrew. Joining the Town Creek team were Anne Stevens, Whit Flake,Lexus Weinheimer, and Trae Kelley.
Our four interns arrived eager to learn more about the world ofagriculture and left having benefited significantly from theexperience. THE GLORIES OF GETTING A SET OF CATTLE WORKED EFFICIENTLY, without incidentor injury to cattle or humans, brings a sense of satisfaction to thosewho do it frequently. When Town Creek Farm needed to build aworking facility on its new North Farm, those factors were on theforefront of owner Milton Sundbeck’s mind. “Everyday I preachsafety first in my Southern Ionics company,” says Sundbeck. It wasonly natural that he approached his farm the same way. With thisguiding mindset, Sundbeck has constructed a built-to-spec TempleGrandin cattle working facility. Dr. Grandin is a prominent designerof humane livestockhandling facilities anda Professor of AnimalScience at ColoradoState University.
“Curved cattlefacilities are moreefficient for handlingcattle because theytake advantage of thenatural behavior ofcattle. Moving cattle ina curve gives them a sense of returning. eir natural behavior makesthem want to go back from where they came.” says Sundbeck.
Grandin’s curved chute systems designs for cattle are usedworldwide, and her writings on the flight zone and other principlesof grazing animal behavior have helped many people to reduce stresson their animals during handling.
e close connection Grandin feels with animals is central to herresearch and design. Grandin evaluates each handling facility byvisualizing it from the animal’s standpoint—sometimes includingcrawling through gates and chutes to identify what sounds, sights orsmells might cause them to be fearful and balk. She thenincorporates this perspective into a series of designs that are morehumane, as well as more efficient and safe.
