Between now and the end of October, our club will be engaged in a tremendous effort in the Dunedin Boat Club’s Dunedin Cup Regatta. If you have not yet bought your tickets to the Regatta Ball or the Low Country Boil, think about doing it now. Yes, the price is steep; however half of that price is tax deductible, going to one of our own creations, the Dunedin Youth Sailing Association. Born from Rod Collman’s passion for educating a new generation of sailors and support from the Dunedin Boat Club and its willingness to use their premier race to raise money to support this community project, DYSA personifies our desire to get children off the couch and on the water.

Can you identify the boat in the picture? Have you seen it in our own St. Joseph Sound? Perhaps at Caladesi? Read below!

This year our speaker is Charley Morgan, the founder of Morgan Yachts. At a recent luncheon, Denis Bosi and Charley began talking and discovered a surprising connection. The boat that Denis has

The Regatta Ball Silent AuctionThis year you can bid on items, even if you are not at the auction.

The auction catalog, full of entertainment, services, and items, including art, will be downloadable from the Dunedin Cup site and the DYSA site so you can find that perfect purchase. There is incredible variety provided by community supporters. These local artist and businesses have really come to the support of DYSA. Can you do any

less? Put technology to work and email your bid from September 9 to September 16 and then use you phone to email to the auction itself. Read the flyer to find out how!

Our Silent action is the number one source for funding for the Dunedin Youth Sailing Association, so bid on these great items you see on the tables and in the catalog. Remember to thank the people and businesses that have helped us by donating all the items this night. Auction Guide Lines.

Bidding done on site is by writing on your bid on the sheet provided. Highest bid listed before the action is closed wins!

Bidding when you are not at the Banquet

We realize that not everyone can be at the banquet and bid on these items to help the Dunedin Youth Sailing Association; therefore we have two easy ways to bid even if you are not here.

By Phone: To bid by phone September the 17th starting at 12:00 noon, just call these numbers below and bid on an item (s) as you choose. Items may be bid on until the item(s) are closed for bidding on Saturday night September 17th during the banquet. Closing times are 9:30, 10:00 and 10:30. Ms. Jennifer Valley 813-679-6657 Robin Wright 813-784-1447

By Email: You may bid by email on any item simply by emailing [email protected] with your bid on the item number. Email Bidding will start on September the 10th and stop on 3:00pm the day of the auction September 17th. Your bid will be entered by the time stamp on the email.Buy it now: Like EBay we have a Buy it now price! What this means if you bid this price, you OWN it now. The item is removed from the auction. This is a new feature we are offering this year. Good luck! Closeout and Payment details

When the auction is complete, payment is made on site at the close of the auction by cash, check, credit card or Pay Pal. Email and phone bids will have the same rules.

After payment ALL items will be picked up and taken from the Dunedin Country Club by the new owners of each item. Exceptions are, unless special arrangements have been made at the auction for later pick up at the Commodore’s home. All items will be picked up by new owners in one week after the auction, or the item will be resold for funding the DYSA.

raced so successfully, named Challenger, is the prototype Morgan 33 designed by Charley for a race to Nassau. At its launching, it bore the name Outrageous and was the first Morgan with trim tabs. The picture shows Sally Morgan at the wheel of Outrageous, tuning up for the NORC. A sister ship won the Trans-Superior Race in the Great Lakes. Charley does love finding out about “his boats” and like Dennis, has found that boating from an early age has shaped his life. Meagan, Vicki and Dennis’ daughter, whom we in the boat club have seen grow from diapers into a vivacious young lady, is a member of DYSA. This passing of the love of the sea from generation to generation is what both Charley’s talk and DYSA is about. Don’t miss out on hearing Charley speak September 17 at the Dunedin Country Club. Registration is easy at the Dunedin Cup Regatta website- www.dunedincup.org.

Vice Commodore by Happy

I was fortunate enough to sit at Old Bay Café tonight overlooking the Marina and the Boat Club and it came up in conversation that one day we would be overlooking the Marina from one of the lovely condos in the area watching what was going on around us….. Weekend Boat Club Sailors, Windlasses, and most importantly our youth sailors as they grow from the City owned prams, to sunfish, to lasers, and eventually to their own boats (or ours as we pass them down)… sigh!

We also talked about what wonderful volunteers our Boat Club has provided to all of these sailors/boaters – Race Committee for the Summer Wednesday night racers, crew for any of the racers, people who have cooked, cleaned, and cleaned some more for parties and sprucing up the boat club, those who have put on social events or helped, and of course the haulers of ‘things’ to islands for parties! Important too are the volunteers that make the kid’s program successful – the program is full again and have 5 on scholarship. Thank you to the DYSA Board who’s vision made this possible but also to the countless volunteers and coaches – (you know who you are) who make it possible on the water!

In saying this, it is YOU – Dunedin Boat Club who ultimately holds/hosts the Dunedin Cup Regatta. WE, Dunedin Boat Club, are chairing the committees, planning the races, gathering items for the Silent Auction, planning the Regatta Ball, asking for spon$or$, designing the t-shirts, (gosh, I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone) WE are the ones that are making this happen. HOWEVER – we need help! We need help Saturday, October 29th – we need help kicking off the Regatta and cheering on the sailors as they leave the marina, we need help on mark boats, we need help gathering and collecting lunches for the race committee boats, we need help selling tshirts, we need help selling BEER!, we need help selling Low Country Boil tickets, we need help cleaning up… We need help! Any help you can give us is MUCH appreciated! Please, please, please lend us a hand to make THIS Dunedin Cup Regatta the best ever!

When the clip board comes around – sign up! Help us out. YOU will be helping the kids, our kids, enjoy what we love so much! You can also call me and I’ll make sure you get the volunteer spot you want! 770-757-7027 (Happy)

See you on the water!!

Many thanks to the faithful who did some overdue cleaning at the DBC Clubhouse, Saturday, Aug. 27. Elaine Mann plans to be a member soon, so with the help of Dorothy Connor she emptied, washed, and repapered all the kitchen cupboards. New member Ken Foster brought a Costa Rican friend, Marvin and together they weeded the front landscape, trimmed everything and pulled the vines out of the pampas grass. Mike and Tommie Burchfield completely washed down the restrooms from stem to stern. Kim Beatty and Ron Kinkaed took on the floor – while Kim swept all the dirt-collecting corners, Ron followed with a mop. The few hands on deck proved to be powerful and effective. Many thanks for your time and effort.

Future plans in preparation for the Fall include crushed shell ground cover for the west side, some more cleaning and organizing before the D-Cup events, and maybe even putting the Boat Club name in raised letters north end of the west facing wall. We hope to have the propane tanks avail-able for the fall cook-out season soon.

Please, please, please – let’s all be security conscious. The clubhouse is a great place to enjoy the wa-ter, the sunset, the fellowship, and a cook-out – so let’s work together to keep what we have. Please be sure to turn everything off, clean-up and put back whatever is used, and lock up the building after each use. Thank you.

May the Wondrous Sovereign of the Sea always be your Pilot,

Rear CommodorePeter Kolb
