Welcome to a neW season

Welcome to our new look brochure featuring the first events at The Hawth in its 25th anniversary year! The Hawth first opened its doors on 30 April 1988 and has since established itself as one of most popular venues in the region.

To celebrate the anniversary we’ll be organising events throughout the year, looking back by presenting popular favourites and to the future with exciting new programming.

Since the last brochure, the Sway Dance studio has been completed and a programme of zumba, street dance, pilates, ballet and musical theatre is planned.

Our 25th anniversary season features the return of some popular favourites alongside exciting new companies and artists.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, English Touring Opera, Al Murray, The Hollies and Black Dyke Band have given us memorable shows over the years and it will be a pleasure to welcome them back.

There’s a strong line up of comedy including new shows from Milton Jones, Hardeep Singh Kohli, Jethro, Reduced Shakespeare Company and the Hormonal Housewives!

Among the many international artists during this season we’re pleased to welcome both Moscow City Ballet, who bring their sumptuous productions of Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty, and, from the same city, the world famous Moscow State Circus.

Family audiences will thrill at a fantastic line up of shows including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Horrible Histories, Tiddler, The Chuckle Brothers and ENB2’s My First Cinderella, especially adapted for young audiences with a chance for children to enjoy a ballet class on stage with English National Ballet.

Winner of the 2012 BBC Young Musician of the Year competition, cellist Laura van der Heijden has astounded critics and audiences with her mature and musical performances, and has already appeared with renowned orchestras including the Northern Sinfonia and Zürich Chamber Orchestra. She joins the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to perform Dvorák’s eloquent and moving Cello Concerto, one of the many heartfelt and emotional works written by the composer during his visits to America.

Indian Takeaway with Hardeep Singh KohliFri 8 February 7.45pm • studioEveryone loves a curry - after all, it is Britain’s national dish! Broadcaster, writer and Celebrity Masterchef finalist Hardeep Singh Kohli is on a mission to find the best Indian takeaway in the UK.

For his third national tour show - following two sell-out years on the road and at the Edinburgh Festival - Hardeep will order a takeaway live on stage for delivery to the theatre, having selected one from audience suggestions submitted via HardeepLive.com.

Hardeep will then race against time to cook his own sumptuous feast before the takeaway arrives. Along the way, he’ll be sharing recipe tips, anecdotes and wonderful stories of his shared Scottish and Indian heritage. Some of the UK’s oldest forms of dance are brought bang up to date as they collide with some of the youngest in an exciting new dance show.

The show, the brainchild of award-winning folk band The Demon Barbers, sees a group of street dancers arrive at an apparently deserted pub. Local rumour has it that The Fighting Cocks is the place to be ‘after hours’ but as the regulars arrive a clash of cultures turns into a dance floor stand-off.

The skill, speed and athleticism of the dancers on both sides soon wins the others over as the old and new are brought together in an exciting and dynamic dance-off.

Sword dances are performed with snooker-cues, pub bouncers dance the Morris and B-boys flirt with clog girls.

Meanwhile house band The Demon Barbers takes English folk music on a new journey with friends hip hop, house, funk and ska and even says hello to burlesque and drum & bass along the way!

Free Touch Tours Visually impaired customers and a partner are guided around the stage to feel the stage sets, props and possibly costumes an hour before the show (subject to producer’s permission). If you are interested, please ask when you book tickets.

Talking Programme Service Crawley Audio Description Service offers background information on the production and performers prior to certain performances starting half an hour before the performance.

Parent and Baby Room Adjacent to the male toilets in lower foyer.

Booster Seats The Hawth has a limited number of booster seats available. The seats should be reserved at the time of booking. A £5 refundable cash deposit and a form of identity will be asked for on collection.

How To Find usCrawley is midway between London and Brighton and is easily accessible by motorway, air (Gatwick Airport is four miles away) and rail.

By Road Crawley is minutes away from the M23 motorway which links to the M25. The Hawth is well signposted on all major routes into the town. There is free car and coach parking on site.

By Rail Either Three Bridges or Crawley stations (both a 15 minute walk away). Both stations have taxi ranks. For further details of rail services, visit www.thetrainline.com.

By Bus Buses 4 and 5 stop at the large square roundabout just over the railway bridge from The Hawth. The buses serve Crawley and Three Bridges train stations, the town centre, Langley Green, County Oak and Pound Hill.
