The Heartbeat of Highwater
February 2021 Highwater Church Serving God since 1842
- Mission Statement “Highwater Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, will be an active family of faith in North Central Licking County, dedicated to building awareness of God, Jesus Christ and the
Holy Spirit through meaningful worship, diverse service, and genuine fellowship.”
All Things New
Groundhog Day is approaching, and with it, the movie with Bill Murray by the same name will be on television a lot. It’s a pretty good one, too. During this pandemic, it has been easy to feel like every day is the same when we wake up. There’s little excitement and little challenge to differentiate one day from the next; with so little to do, for most days, not getting sick is the biggest thing on our to-do lists. The good news is that, as Groundhog Day reminds us,
spring is coming, and with it comes renewed hopes about beginning to see our way out of the pandem-ic. People are (slowly) beginning to be vaccinated. We will soon be able to be outside again, making some group activities more safe. We can see the time coming when we can begin to do some of the things that have been lost during the past year—things that maybe we did-n’t realize how much we enjoyed until they were taken away. The coming of spring means the coming of Easter. It will look much different than normal Easters at Highwater, but not as different as last year. With spring, with Easter comes the hope of resurrection and renewal. Even during a time when we seem to be living the experience of Bill Mur-ray in Groundhog Day—every day the same as the one before it—God is still making all things new.
Peace, Pastor Scott
Lent Book Study This year, our Lent book study will be on the book
Words of Life: Jesus and the Promise of the Ten Commandments Today
by Adam Hamilton. Hamilton’s work is informative, and his theological themes
always strike a cord with members of our congrega-tion. Each class will be offered via Zoom on a weekly basis,
once at noon on Mondays and then on a week night. You will need to purchase the book in order to participate; it’s widely available for purchase in hardcopy or download.
