What a fun day we had at our first class fundraiser with Bobbie as our guest teacher. If you did not attend, be sure to check out the food table and painter pictures. Carol and Debbie sure know how to pre- sent a theme. Our “tea party” was amazing, great food, beautiful displays and thank to Karen Ortman, fantastic tea. I heard so many positive comments about that day. The project was beautiful, and of course Bobbie amazes me every time she is our teacher, her knowledge and stories makes the day fly by. Thank you to the entire board for all their work to make this a suc- cessful event. As we end our year, just a few reminders. November is the month we bring food for the mobile home park so they can provide Thanks- giving meals for those who would not ordinarily have one. Chapter will also donate money to the park resident board to purchase items that will complete the meal. So please drop off your non-perishable food at the paint in. Our Christmas party is coming up soon and I can tell you it is won- derful. The committee has worked to give membership a great day. Sign up if you haven’t yet, we only have 42 slots total. Once again I’m asking for volunteers, this time for future committees and an annual audit of the books. For the committees, we need MPI 2020, Ways-n-Means 2019 and Christmas party 2019. If you would like to help or chair one of these committees, let me know. It is al- ways so exciting to see volunteers put their own spin on the event. I also need 2-3 people who will look at our books. Marilyn keeps great records so this is not a huge job, usually a couple of hours. SDP recommends a self-audit so membership has a stake in their chapter. If you are interested let me know, otherwise I may be ask- ing you for help. I announced at October’s Paint-in my temporary return to work. I have been asked by my former principal to fill in while the Home Ec. teachers takes a leave of ab- sence. The most difficult part of this job is the 60 hour week, so if I don’t get back to you if you have a question, please be patient, I’m settling in so things should to start leveling out. NEWS from 1st Vice Presidents (Programs)

October: Chapter Fundraiser and Tea Party- Ladies wore their tea hats and brought their tea cups all in the Halloween spirit to the event. The star of the day was our own Bobbie T. She donated her teaching time to the chapter so we could have this fundraiser. How nice was that! We always enjoy her teaching because we, as students, always ‘learn something’. We painted two children building a snowman on the members own surfaces which consisted of sleds, wood ornaments, plates, boxes and round ornaments. The day was fun filled with oodles of great raffles, a perfect day for tea since it was rainy day and tea party food which consisted of sandwiches, scones and desserts. A super fun time was had by all.

November 10th Class: European Street Scene Jack Ragland with his unique teaching style is ready to show you how to paint the European Street Scene. This pro-ject can be painted on a canvas or surface of your choice. Suggested: 10”x 8” canvas, hard board, wood or other. You can enlarge the tracing to fit 11”x 14”, or 16”x 20”. Acrylic paint. Pattern sheets available. Come in and vote for 2019 and 2020 projects. Stop by the mobile estates club house anytime during class or lunch to cast your ballot or vote ‘on line’. VOTE ! - have a say on what projects the chapter picks for the upcom-ing year.

Community Outreach It's time for us to start putting together some non-perishable foods and toiletries for residents of the San Marcos Mobile Home Estates. So start collecting your items. Please bring them to our NOVEMBER meeting. (It's voting month

too). Chapter also helps with a donation towards a Thanksgiving dinner given for the residents. We need everyone's help with these donations. It is a great way to show our appreciation for the won-derful room and kitchen we have for our meetings. We are so very lucky !

The most important date in November 2018 is November 6, U.S. General Election Day. It's a rev-olution... a peaceful one, where majority rules!! Once every four years, we get the opportunity to elect a new president. Every six years, we elect our U.S. senators. U.S. congressman are elected every two years. This peaceful revolution, allows us to retain good elected officials, and overturn those whose performance is poor, or whose beliefs do not match the majority. While Democracy may not be perfect, it's better than any other type of government on the planet. And, it offers us freedoms and safeguards that do not exist in many other countries. Our founding fathers had the wisdom to create a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. It is every Ameri-can's right and privilege, to vote for our government officials. So, we hope you exercise your right on this day, to vote for the can-didates and measures of your choice. While apathy and discontent can creep into even the best of societies, we believe that makes it more important for us TO VOTE. Another important date in November is November 11, Veteran’s Day. Veterans's Day honors all members of the Armed Forces who served this country valiantly, and in a very big way. They served and fought to protect us, to keep our country safe, and to preserve our way of life. Veterans gave their time, and risked their lives for you and me. In some cases, they made the ultimate sacrifice. This is the 100th Anniversary of the Original Armistice Day — the Eleventh Hour of the Eleventh Day of the Eleventh Month — November 11, 1918. It marked the end of World War I. Thanksgiving Day is Thursday, November 22, time to eat, drink and be thankful. Some not so famous days in November are Nov. 2, All Soul’s Day and Deviled Egg Day. Nov. 3 is Sandwich Day followed by Guy Fawkes Day and Gunpowder Day on Nov. 5. Nov. 12 brings us Chicken Soup for the Soul Day with Sadie Hawkins Day on the 13th. Does anyone remember Sadie Hawkins Day? Nov. 15 brings us Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day, Great American Smokeout and National Philanthropy Day.

Astrology signs for November are Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21) and Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21). Intense Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, planet of power and control. Pluto is a tiny pow-erhouse, and a bit of a mystery; in mythology Pluto was the god of the underworld. Many Scorpios are also drawn to “dark” things, and often wear the color black, or a shocking tone like red or hot pink. Like Pluto, Scorpio’s power often emanates from a hidden source, even when you don’t say a word. Mysterious Scorpio is the zodiac’s most misunderstood sign. You’re so powerful that people feel your pres-ence, even before you’ve said a word! Sensitive Scorpio picks up vibes. You see every little detail, and you can read people like an open book. Once your friends get used to your high-intensity style, they know that you’re fiercely loyal. Sagittarius is the ultimate free spirit: optimistic, open-minded and ambitious. You’re happiest in wide-open spaces with plenty of adventure and excitement. You juggle a million projects, hobbies and friends. The more, the merrier! Sagitta-rius is forever pursuing a super-sized goal. Even when you fail, nothing can keep you down. You’ll chalk it up as a life lesson and inspire everyone with tales of your experience.
