Summary

• Persephone gets kidnapped, Demeter is looking for her. Demeter goes to Zeus to get her back. Zeus brings her to Hades. Persephone gives in, and Hades and Demeter compromise on spending time with Persephone.

Character’s Transformation

• Persephone transforms from a girl who fears the darkness and death, to a girl who finds peace around the whole subject.

• Demeter transforms from a overprotective mother, to an accepting, less protective mother.

Separation• Flowers, sunlight, warmth,

happiness, life were Persephone's known world

• Kidnapping

• Starts looking for Persephone

• Underworld is the Unknown World

Initiation• Adjusting to the Underworld,

Demeter getting to the Underworld

• Eating the Pomegranate seeds and having to stay in the underworld was a temptation

• Zeus, Helios were mentors

• Nothing was a talisman

• The Underworld was the abyss

Return• When Persephone realized that she

wanted to be with Hades and balance out the Underworld, and Demeter realizes that she couldn't be s controlling over Persephone's life

• Persephone feels at peace in the Underworld

• Persephone's atonement is when she becomes the balance of darkness and light in the Underworld

• Persephone goes home and the world is lightened once again. Thus creating summer and spring after a long winter.

Observations• Demeter's quest is to get Persephone back from the

Underworld, Persephone's quest is to get home

• Persephone chose to eat the seeds because she hadn't eaten in the Underworld, plus she had found peace

• Persephone's journey is more significant than her mother's. Demeter went on a journey of finding her daughter, while Persephone went on a journey of finding herself.

• Demeter didn't refuse to compromise because she realized she couldn't control her daughter's life forever and that the world couldn't always be life and light.

Final Words

• A hero's journey can be more significant if it's about finding yourself rather than just going on a journey to find something else. It's not about the prize.
