Easter season is a time for new beginnings. You may think of Easter being over and done with once the eggs have all been eaten and the children gone back to school, but in church the season begins with the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Sunday and continues through Ascensiontide when we remember Jesus returning to heaven, to the feast of Pentecost and the releasing of the

Holy Spirit, (which this year is in the middle of May). This allows opportunity to take in all the stories of the great change that is brought about through Jesus being raised from the dead. A new way of understanding who Jesus is for the disciples; a new way of relating to each other; a new task ahead of them of sharing the news with others; the beginning of life as followers of the Way, who later became known as Christians. It was an exciting time of learning from Jesus, waiting on God in patient prayer and praise for his promised Spirit, and then a wonderful adventure of living life guided by God’s Spirit. Here’s to new beginnings for us all and the promise of new adventures. Many blessings, Liz Bickley

“Shine as a light in the world to the glory of God the Father”

Funeral Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Eileen CUNDY

17th April, 2013 at Arnesby Baptist Chapel

The Hexagon Benefice has much to thank Brian Davis for in the last 8 months

since Rev. Andy Rhoades left for pastures new. Without Brian, the Church-

wardens of all 6 parishes would have found their job so very much harder as a

huge burden of work has been undertaken by Brian for our Benefice. Not only

has he taken numerous services, found priests to officiate where he couldn’t,

undertaken weddings, funerals, baptisms, visited the elderly, sick and many

others, not to mention sorting rotas, writing services, visiting the schools and

taking their services and still finding time to take our services with guitar, dog

and endless good humour. As one of the Benefice churchwardens, I take my

hat off to him for his fitness, boundless energy and enthusiasm and thank him

from the bottom of my heart for all his work for us. God bless you whatever

you do next and hope you’ll still find time to come and see us all.

Peter Welton has over 300 prints displayed on his website. Consequently he gets contacts from people all over the world. He is also getting many who want to visit Arnesby and take a one-day work-shop with him in watercolour technique...known in the art world as the “WeltonWay”. A woman from Madrid recently flew to Coventry Airport early in the morning, took a taxi to Peter’s studio in Arnesby, did the one-day course and flew back to Madrid at 5pm. Have a look at his website www.peterwelton.com and see if you can work out why she would go to such trouble.

A packed Baptist Chapel bid farewell to Eileen on Wednesday 17th April. Eileen had been an integral and vibrant member of the WI, village hall and Baptist community in

Arnesby. Her contribution to village life and events was immense. Our thoughts go out to Norman and their two children Matthew and Anna.

Rev’d Canon Brian Davis: Thank you Brian for your magnificent support, leadership and guidance throughout our period of interregnum. We appreciate all the hard work this has involved. Your services have been inspirational and joyful, particularly with your musical accompaniments. Thanks and Shalom, Brian, from Arnesby PCC and congregation.

Husbands Bosworth C. of E. Primary School: Our younger children in class one have been thinking about the world around them and learning to use adjectives. Their class prayer uses a lot of describing words to explain how grateful and interested they are in their environment. Dear God, Thank you for:

The colours because without them our world would look so dull. The green small frogs that hop around our garden ponds. Black rats with little ears and twitchy tails. Fluffy white sheep that we see in the fields. Our pets; rabbits, dogs, cats, birds and fish who we enjoy spending time with. Sunny weather so that we can play outside our homes and beautiful gardens. The scrumptious food we have to eat, long crunchy carrots, cheesy pasta and chocolate ice- cream.

Most of all, thank you for all the people who love us and forgive us when we get a bit silly and carried away.

Amen.

Rogationtide starts with Rogation Sunday and ends on Ascension Day. The name Rogationtide comes from the Latin word rogatio, to intercede, ask or beseech. What traditionally happens during Rogationtide? It's traditionally a time when prayers are made for God's blessing on the land, livestock and crops in the hope of a good harvest. When is Rogationtide? The fifth Sunday after Easter is called Rogation Sunday, and the following Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are known as Rogation Days. These three days usually fall in May, although the Monday can be as early as 27 April and the Wednesday as late as 2 June.

Lord, may the Spirit of Pentecost continue to inspire us today, as it did with the first disciples, as we strive to keep your Church alive. We thank you for Liz, our new incumbent, and pray that your Spirit will guide, strengthen and comfort her as she prepares for her ministry here. We ask these things in the name of Jesus Christ our Saviour.

Amen
