Name: Linda Elliott, Role: Walk Leader, Organisation Blidworth Walking Group We set up this group 19 months ago and it has gradually grown, enjoying about 30 regular walkers of all ages. We regularly walk through the Sherwood Forest and one of our favourite venues is Sherwood Pines stopping at the Visitors Centre. Once in the heart of Sherwood Pines you immediately relax and take in a breath of fresh air. The well maintained woodland is a joy, we like to get off the beaten path and take the less travelled paths its like a secret garden. Most walks are sign posted for long or short walks, this is good if youre not sure of your way. When the forest commission are working in any particular area they leave posters of any work they are carrying out and when the paths can be used again safely. We meet all sort of people such as horse riders, cyclists, young families, dog walkers and at the right time, music festivals, everyone is so friendly there is something for everyone Sherwood Pines is great for all ages. We are lucky to live in an area of outstanding natural beauty that is free and accessible to everyone if only you know where to look. The hard work is taken out of it if you walk with Blidworth Walking Group, all walks have been planned and risk assessed by Linda Elliott or David Smith. We have a group of welcoming people who live in and around the area who walk regularly at home and in Derbyshire.

    Fabulous Night Life Entertainment

Jonathan Edwards of Andwhynot Bar & Restaurant Andwhynot Bar & Restaurant is situated on Leeming St, next door to The Palace Theatre. Since Jonathan Edwards and Paul Anderton opened andwhynot following a huge transformation in 2000, this unique and stylish venue is highly regarded as the premier place to eat, drink and party within Mansfield Town Centre. This chameleon venue opens daily and offers such a wide range of entertainment and ambiences, for instance, their friendly team serve amazing, fresh food at lunchtimes and evenings, host regular acoustic nights, Ladies Charity Evenings and extremely popular Afternoon with Icons events, showcasing the UKs leading tribute artistes.

Also why did you choose to start a business/es in Mansfield & Ashfield? Both Paul and I have worked in Mansfield Town Centre for over 20 years now, so creating Andwhynot in Mansfield was such an obvious choice for us. Having local knowledge was such a huge benefit and we believed that Mansfield was ready for what we wanted to offer.

Why do you believe your businesses have been successful? I believe that Mansfield people deserve high quality venues that dont cost the earth to enjoy. People demand good value for money and thats always been at the forefront of our plans, alongside reinvestment. I dont measure success purely by financial gain, success is also watching people enjoy what you do, personally, no amount of profit could match that feeling.

Tell us why you believe local people can come to Mansfield and enjoy a fun, safe and entertaining evening in Mansfield. Mansfield is still fighting to lose the stigma of being a rough place to visit by night, but slowly attitudes are changing. Statistics prove that Mansfield is safer now than it ever has been. At Andwhynot, we still believe that people shouldnt have to travel elsewhere to have the high standards of food, service and environments that the city has to offer.. These high standards are on your doorstep at Andwhynot.

Four Ways to Wear: Tea Dresses by Natalie

I ts the Queens Diamond Jubilee year and with summer just around the corner, what better time to revisit that fashion classic, the tea dress?

The defining elements of a tea dress are

    lightweight fabric, cropped or capped

sleeves and a mid-length skirt that

gracefully falls near the mid-calf. Think

1940s, cucumber sandwiches on the lawn, home-baked

cake, vintage china and polite conversation. But, even with

all this nostalgia in the air, theres no need for tea

    dresses to be old fashioned.

The best of todays dresses mix-up vintage features, such

as decorative collars or button detailing, with modern

touches like bold colours and prints.

    Tea dresses

Are also incredibly versatile, being suitable for many

different occasions. Here are just four ways you can wear

    the style:

    At the office.

Embrace your femininity and take it to work. Yes, tea

dresses can look good at the office and are ideal for

summer lunches. Choose plain, block colours for a

professional look. Team with super high heels and a

    cropped jacket.

    Into the evening.

If you choose the right tea dress you can wear it

throughout the day and into the night, making it perfect

for long days shopping in the city, followed by dinner with

friends. Make sure you opt for a luxurious fabric, such as

organza or chiffon and a suitably smart clutch bag.

    Weekend days.

Shorter, above the knee, cotton day

dresses with vintage detailing are the

most prolific tea dress style on the

high street this year. Theyre just the

ticket for hot summer picnics, bbqs or

seaside day trips. Toss a fitted, 1950s-

style cardigan into an oversized bag

and off you go sporting a charmingly playful twist on the

    traditional look.

    Special occasions.

Silk tea dresses in floral patterns are the perfect choice

for special occasions from summer weddings, a day at

the races or taking afternoon tea, high society style. Add

a fascinator or bolero for optimum glamour.

    High Tea?

    Carrot Cupcake Recipe Ingredients

4oz Plain flour One and a half teaspoons cinnamon One teaspoon baking powder Half teaspoon salt Half teaspoon of Vanilla extract 2 large eggs (beaten) 6oz vegetable oil 8oz sugar 12oz Carrots (6 medium) finely shredded Cream Cheese Frosting (4 tbsp. unsalted butter softened, 4oz cream cheese, half tsp vanilla extract, 8oz caster sugar beat together to make a light fluffy cream) Directions Preheat oven to 350 degrees, line muffin cups with liners and spray with vegetable oil. Whisk the flour, cinnamon, baking powder, salt, eggs and vegetable oil together. Gradually beat into the mix the sugar using an electric mixer at medium speed until thick (3 mins). Beat in the vanilla and fold in the carrots. Take the batter and fill the muffin cups equally and bake in the oven for 30-35mins. When cool, use a half inch plain tip pastry bag filled with cream cheese frosting to pipe a top onto the cupcake. You can freeze the cupcakes and thaw to eat to help prevent crumbling.

    Tea Party Fundraiser

    Campaign;

Join Miss Mansfield Alicia Caley and Wear a

Tiara to Work On behalf of Jigsaws Jubilee

Mansfield charity and Jigsaw Support Scheme is

    encouraging local businesses &

    organisations to consider holding a

tea party at work throughout June

to help them raise funds for their

    befriending and generic support

    projects.

    Charity Manager Clare Heyting

says As a charity we thought this

would be a fun way to engage the

    business community and give

    them a platform to engage

customers old and new. Already, we have the support of

Henshaws Furniture, The Works Health and Beauty on

White Hart Street, the Ladies of Hucknall Round Table and Alicia Caley, Miss Mansfield for 2012. All of them are

holding tea parties in June to help us reach our fundraising targets. support projects which both help adults in Mansfield

to live fulfilled, happy and healthy lives, independently and at home for as long as possible. And in these days of an

ageing population our services are needed more than ever.

Alicia Caley, Miss Mansfield will be holding her very own tea party on June 1st backstage at Glastonbudget Festival in

Leicestershire, where she will be performing with her band Ransom. When Alicia was asked to get involved she stated

When Jigsaw approached me I thought it was a great idea and even though Im in the middle of A Levels and touring

with my band Ransom, I just couldnt say no. Jigsaw does such good work in the community helping vulnerable people

in North Nottinghamshire with their support needs. So I wanted to get involved to help raise Jigsaws profile and much

    needed cash.

Henshaws Furnitures party takes place on June 8th 2pm-4pm and The Works Health and Beauty takes place on the 1st

June. All the staff will be wearing their tiaras and charging 1.00 for tea and coffee that day, donating it all to Jigsaw.

Jigsaw Fundraiser Ginny Cullen says The Wear a Tiara to Work Day came about from the Jigsaw Jubilee Tea

Parties. These tea parties are a great excuse to get together and have fun. Jigsaws befriending project directly

addresses the problem of chronic isolation which is one of the causes of anxiety and can lead to mental health issues,

so these parties will both raise money and help people to get together in a really fun way. So the Wear a Tiara to Work

Day just led on from that. And now with Alicias support, were hoping even more people and businesses will come

forward and hold a tea party and/or Wear a Tiara/Crown to Work Day

We all need to be treated like a Queen sometimes, so indulge your inner Prince/Princess/Queen, pay a 1.00 donation

to Jigsaw and help make a difference in your local Community.

Dont worry if you miss the above events you can always hold your own tea party or simply Wear a tiara for the day. If

you would like to hold your own tea party at work please contact Ginny Cullen for a comprehensive fundraising pack at

    Jigsaw on 01623 662200.

W e couldnt do it without you! How young people help Jigsaw Support Scheme to help others in North Nottinghamshire.

After eighteen year old Darcy Keeling (photo) left school she found it impossible to get work. Then. she found out about Jigsaw and it changed her life.

Jigsaw is a charity based in Mansfield which enables people in North Nottinghamshire to live their lives, their way. Jigsaw offers individualised and tailored support so that vulnerable adults of all ages can live at home independently, safely and happily, retaining their dignity and self-determination.

One of their most valued projects is the befriending scheme. Jigsaw volunteers visit elderly and house bound people who would otherwise struggle to see anyone else in a typical week. The befriending service brings much needed friendship and companionship to very lonely and socially isolated people who would otherwise suffer from depression, anxiety and ill health. Darcy says Im so grateful for Jigsaw. I love visiting my ladies. I get as much out of it as they do, if not more actually. Doing the befriending makes me feel useful, needed and wanted. My ladies feel better because theyve got someone to talk to. Sometimes, they share their problems with me and they wouldnt talk to anyone else about them. It makes me feel very privileged. Jigsaw has helped

me with training and qualifications so my CV looks better and it helps me to carry out my role.

Befriending Coordinator Cate Bones says the training Jigsaw offers is vital. Many of our elderly service users have suffered a great deal of loss in their lives. Not just from the loss of loved ones, but loss of income, loss of independence and if theyre house bound, loss of social interaction which of course leads to depression and anxiety. Without our befriending project so many of Mansfields lonely and isolated elderly people just wouldnt see another person in their week.

Our training gives all our volunteers the skills theyll need to deal with the issues of loss, dementia, safeguarding and professional boundaries. This is not only vital in the role of volunteer but the training plus the real work experience volunteers gain can help them back into work or to get their first job.

Volunteering for Jigsaw has changed Darcys life. Shes now back in education studying hairdressing. Her message to anyone thinking about volunteering is to just go for it! She says for young people like herself it sends out a good message to employers. It helps on your CV, youre getting really worthwhile training, developing life skills for yourself but also skills which are valued in the

workplace. And its just so enjoyable. I now have two ladies: Jessica and Doreen (not their real names). With Jessica I pass on hairdressing tips as she knows Im studying it and she likes to get the information from an expert. With Doreen, I love hearing stories about her past life. She likes to talk about her husband whos passed on. I love just being there for my ladies, listening to their problems and their

news, whether its good or bad. I think what they get out of it is that they can now see younger people in a positive light. For instance, I have quite a number of piercings and when people meet me for the first time, theyre sometimes wary of me. Now Jessica and Doreen know that Im not scary or trouble. I really love them and I think they feel good about me. Even if I got offered paid work on the days I visit my ladies, I wouldnt take it. I get as much from them as I give. They make me feel good about what Im

doing and I love the fact that Im really making a difference to their lives, just as they are with me.

If youd like to make a huge difference in someone elses life, get valuable training and learn new skills, give Cate Bones a call on 01623 662200 for more details about volunteering with Jigsaw.

    4th Dance Spectacular at

    Samworth Church Academy

S amworth Church Academy has celebrated a successful two night Dance Showcase with 150 students taking part in the performances to sell out audiences. The shows also included professional dancers from Nottingham who have invited Samworth Church Dance Academy students to join their company when they premiere a new show this month in Nottingham.

Hannah Lake, Dance Teacher at the Academy said the show was a great success with the audiences and was the culmination of a lot of hard work by the students. She said, The 4th Dance showcase was a great success. This year Samworth Church Dance Academy students have been fortunate to work alongside a professional company called Ampersandance and have acquired many new performance skills which have shone through in this showcase. We are very proud of the students increasing abilities.

There was also a guest performance each night by the team of professional dancers from Ampersandance, a post graduate dance company, based in Nottingham. Jamie Thomson, Artistic Director of Ampersandance takes classes at the Academy each week, giving the students the chance to work with a career dancer. He said, We work with students from Samworth Church Academy that show potential and commitment to develop their training as young dancers and give them the necessary skills to develop them as young professionals of the future. The students are able to gain experience and insight by working every week on their dance technique and performing

alongside our professionally trained dancers, who act as mentors for these young dance students. All of this experience has paid off as the dance showcase at the Academy was entertaining and professional; the students did a great job and should be proud of their achievements. Ball raises 900 for Framework

A cheque for more than 900, which was raised at the Chairman and Mayor's annual charity ball was presented to Mansfield's Framework branch on Tuesday (15 May).

The outgoing Council Chairman Cllr Sally Higgins and the Council's Managing Director Ruth Marlow presented the cheque for 902.55 to Michelle Hanson, Service Manager at Framework's Sherwood Street centre, Mansfield.

The money was raised at the Chairman and Mayor's annual charity ball held on 23 March at the Civic Centre.

The money will go towards "Framework Mansfield's Appeal" to raise 30,000 to support more residents of Sherwood Street. The aim is to create a new job to support the needs of an increased number of people requiring the homeless service, in order to sustain a more balanced outlook for their futures.

Framework have already worked hard in raising 20,000 towards their goal. Further donations can be made directly to the charity on http://www.frameworkha.org/donate.php.

Preparing for Your Future by our Independent financial adviser

and long term care specialist Shirley Burns

If you are faced with the prospect of finding care for an ageing parent, you are probably feeling emotionally drained right now. The process of finding suitable care and sorting out the legislation, not to mention coming to terms with the significant changes to their lifestyle, can be extremely hard.

If a persons capital and savings and/or income push them outside the means test thresholds, they will generally be responsible for the funding of their own care fees until such time as their money falls below the appropriate threshold. However, with careful planning it may be possible to structure their finances in such a way that care fees can be paid indefinitely, without worry about the future or what might happen if the money runs out. Most families wish to ensure that their parent can stay in the chosen care home for the rest of their lives, as well as safeguarding as much of the existing capital as possible. It may seem surprising, but there are dedicated tax efficient financial policies available. These are called Immediate Care Plans (also known as ICPs, Immediate Annuities or Care Fees Payment Plans). They are specially designed to cover all or part of the cost of a persons care fees and, while they are not a universal panacea, they can, in the right circumstances, provide an ideal solution. What would it cost? An Immediate Care Plan is tailored to the circumstances of the person needing care, the points taken into consideration being; age, gender, medical condition and the amount of annual benefit needed. Care costs vary countrywide and as everybodys financial situation

is different its not possible to give a definite cost. However, this synopsis gives an idea of the sorts of calculations involved. The Carters; Jeff and Sophie Carter were anxious to sort out the continued care fees for Jeffs mum, Mildred. At 86, Mildred was in hospital after a period of memory loss and a series of falls having necessitated her admission. And although her health improved slightly, her family felt she couldnt continue to live safely in her own home. The family found a care home they were all happy with and Mildred moved in. Jeff and Sophie wanted to make sure that Mildred could stay in this home for the rest of her life without worrying about her money. Mildred had 157,000 from the sale of her house, some savings and a net annual income of 15,439. Her care costs and incidental expenses came to 33,540. This left Mildred with an annual deficit between her income and expenses of 18,101. The family purchased an Immediate Care Plan, which cost 62,674. The plan pays the care home 18,101 each year (plus annual increases of 5%) and will continue for the rest of Mildreds life. The remaining capital of 94,326 was securely invested. Money Talk Hi and welcome to our latest Money Talk, delivered to you by our team of experts from Assured Money Solutions

WITH up to 20,000,000 payment protection policies mis-sold by bank and high street lenders for over a decade there is a very good chance you could have been caught out. If you have ever had a bank loan, a credit card, a mortgage, a store card or a vehicle on finance there is a massive chance that you could be one of the people that the banks mis-sold insurance to. Last week the banks announced hundreds of millions of extra provision to put right the 10billion of mis-sales that took place. Believe me, that figure could easily rise, 85% of claimants were mis-sold. The average claim is around 2,700 so it's definitely worth digging out every credit agreement you have ever had. There are some very able claims companies out there that will help win back your money very effectively, but it is possible to do this yourself and you may want to do some DIY. Here is what you need to do. Firstly remember as much of the detail as possible, write down what was said, how you felt and what was your financial position at the time including any employer benefits. The salespeople at the banks needed to dot every i and cross every t and the reality is they did not. The processes they followed were shambolic. You need to decide why you believe you were mis-sold; were you told it was compulsory, were you self-employed, unemployed or retired, were you sold or told the wrong thing, did you already have cover in place or did you have any medical problems at the time? Dont get fobbed off by the banks that your claim is older than six years if you have evidence, that point is irrelevant. Don't take no for an answer and remember you want the following: All the premiums back to inception (not the last six years), you want interest attached to those premiums, you want eight per cent statutory interest on top and you also, in the case of loans, want any unfair settlements recalculating, and in the case of credit cards you want any charges redressing as had you not been mis-sold you would not have encountered these charges. Best of luck with your claim, take action and get your money back. Lee Dunville, Assured Money Solutions Ltd

Back to Work Advice from Health on Hand Mansfield on the perfect PC posture

Whether at home, work or on the move, more and more of us are

spending large parts of the day using a computer. With a growing

trend for people to hot-desk or work from home and then sit and

concentrate at the screen for so long, we may not be aware that the

position were in is harmful to our spines. Health on Hand Mansfield

has some advice to keep in mind at the start of each working week:

    On the move:

Make time to check your bag/briefcase each day for items that

you wont need. The paperwork can quickly accumulate and

additional weight in your bag is extra weight that your shoulders

    and back have to bear.

Use a rucksack design laptop case and carry it on both

shoulders and adjust the straps so that the bag is held close to your

    back.

If wanting to use a laptop on the train, try to sit where there is

a table. If having to use the computer on your lap, limit the time you

sit in this way as you are sitting looking down onto the screen, with

your head unsupported. Certainly avoid using the seat next to you,

as you will also be twisting your spine.

    At your desk:

Always take the time to adjust your chair when you start

    working at a new location.

Your seat should be adjusted so that your feet are flat on the

ground or on a foot rest, ensuring there is a slope from your hips to

your knees. You should end up with your hips higher than your

knees and your eyes level with the top of the computer screen.

(Stretching your legs out under the desk is also fine if you feel more

comfortable this way but if you tend to tuck your feet under the

chair, make sure you dont stay in this position for long as this

position reduces blood flow to your legs).

Relax when sitting into your chair, making sure you have your

bottom against the seat back and your shoulder blades are

touching the back rest of the chair. The front of the seat should not

be compressing against/touching the backs of your calves.

Arms should be flat and your elbows level with the desk or

table you are using. Use a seat with arm rests.

Take regular breaks. Never sit at the computer for more than

    40 minutes; less if possible.

    When you take a break,

    walk around and stretch a

    little; do something

    completely different.

    Remove any obstacles

    from under your desk to

    ensure you have enough

    leg room.

Never sit and twist your back to use a laptop.

    At home:

If using a laptop, invest in a stand or docking station to place it

on (available from PC suppliers) as this ensures the screen is at

eye level. You should also buy a normal keyboard and mouse to

plug in, making it much easier to use the laptop in a more back

    friendly manner.

Invest in the best possible seat you can afford. If you are

going to be sitting in it for long periods of

time, it is important to get one that

    provides the most adjustability and

    support.

    Migraines and Massage

W hether or not you are taking prescription and over-the-counter medications for migraine relief you might find that alternative treatments are helpful in managing migraine headaches. One such treatment is massage therapy. Massage in general is suggested for stress relief and stress is considered a trigger of migraine headaches. A recent study examining the effect of massage therapy on migraine suggested very positive results. The massage therapy subjects reported fewer distress symptoms, less pain, more headache free days and fewer sleep disturbances. They also showed an increase in serotonin levels. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter found in the brain that is important in reducing pain. Prior to a migraine episode, serotonin levels have been noted as high in migraine patients versus non-migraine. The idea is that a relaxing massage can decrease stress, promote well being and help reduce migraine frequency and pain.

When A Migraine Attacks At the onset of a migraine, try massaging your own face, head, neck and shoulders, or have a friend or family member perform the massage. Having someone else massage you is helpful for hard to reach areas such as the back. It's also important to relax your muscles and try to get as comfortable as possible.

    Massage Techniques To Try Yourself

There are many different books available for massage techniques. The following techniques are for alleviating migraine pain:

Place your thumbs on each side of the spine, in the hollows between the neck muscles just below the base of the skull. Tilt your head back and press firmly for two to three minutes, breathing deeply. Press the web between your thumb and forefinger with the thumb and index finger of your opposite hand. Press hard for one minute, breathing deeply and then repeat with the other hand.

    Professional Massage Therapy

If you do decide to try massage with a registered therapist, there are various forms available and it can be a little daunting perhaps in choosing one. You may find it's a case of experimentation where you attempt several before finding one that is effective.

Craniosacral Therapy In this form of massage, a therapist gently massages your skull bones and your scalp. The aim is to soothe the nerves and reduce migraine pain as it occurs. Deep-Tissue Massage Therapy In deep-tissue massage therapy, the massage therapist uses pressure and stretching to reduce tension in the body. Deep-tissue massages are purported to improve circulation and help reduce muscle tension. Typically, a deep tissue massage therapist focuses on specific areas of the body to relieve pain through the use of deep finger pressure and slow strokes.

Accupressure Accupressure techniques involve the application of soft finger pressure to various points on the head. It is thought that accupressure can help migraine sufferers by easing muscle tension and promoting better blood circulation. Massage should be performed by a qualified and trained massage therapist. He or she will attempt to address the various symptoms that may contribute to migraine pain. A massage therapist may also perform massage in conjunction with hydrotherapy or essential oils such as lavender or peppermint.

Addressing stress and physical aches with a massage may provide wonderful results for those who suffer from migraines and at the very least, will hopefully provide a respite from a stressful day

Congratulations to Sam from The High Life on achieving her goal to attain the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership

In order to further my personal development, I approached Focus Management for Business who were able to help identify training

needs specific to my role as Operations Manager with Mansfield 2020.

It was an easy decision to select Focus as a training provider since I had utilised their services previously.

I particularly enjoyed being challenged on the concept of Management and Leadership at Level 5 and it was interesting to see how my perception of the management role changed during the course of the

    programme.

Focus Management for Business has been extremely supportive throughout the learning process and the course mentor was knowledgeable and most importantly available when I needed encouragement and support.

Completing the course has provided me with an invaluable understanding of the management process, as well as the skills to implement new processes in the workplace and further my own personal objectives

    Chamber Welcomes Drop

    In Unemployment

Commenting on the latest employment figures released by the ONS today, George Cowcher, Chief Executive of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, said: The fall in both overall unemployment and also in JSA claimants is a welcome one and shows that the economic recovery in the UK is making steady progress.

These figures back up the Chambers own research for the same period, which found that the number of local businesses recruiting stands at its highest level since March 2011.

That said, businesses still need to be aware of the challenges that remain in the economy, with the situation in the eurozone deteriorating and pressure increasing on the private sector to create the jobs needed to absorb the continuing fallout from cutbacks in the public sector.

Businesses are working hard to expand and grow, but Government needs to do more to help them create jobs. Measures like real de-regulation, and the creation of a business bank to help improve access to finance, will boost confidence and encourage firms to invest and create jobs and growth.

W ell what has happened to the weather it is absolutely freezing? Is this some sort of joke or proof that global warming is now in reverse and turning to global freezing?

Therefore all plans for barbecues, picnics and gardening are on hold this weekend as I reach for my remote to watch another film whilst sat on the sofa in my thermals with a glass of cocoa?

Did I miss something like four months of summer? Our animals must be going into hibernation again totally confused.

As for the flowers they seemed to have had a mass bloom within a couple of days of sunshine to be followed by being totally windswept and then of course bashed with rain looking a little sodden and downtrodden reminding me of Manchester city fans last week after their last minute or should I say last second defeat.

For some reason I am a total Anti-Rooneyist nothing personal just his ignorant, arrogant attitude he seems to portray by the way love his new hair!

And leading from the word Anti this leads me onto the

Anti Royals several of who are coming out from the

woodwork in the build up to the jubilee celebrations. Myself I love it and everywhere I have driven today I have

seen flags large union jacks, little rows of flags, royalty memorabilia. Well done I say for taking on our Diamond Jubilee.

You dont have to be a fan of the royal family to recognise

the benefits to our country and the uplift in spirits from a fun street, or even village/town party enjoy and please dont take life too seriously.

In finishing I realised today it is actually or would have actually been a silver anniversary for me today my silver wedding anniversary except I have been divorced 10 years! Strange thought though.

Anyway the end of my rambling and a big thank you to those of you who gave me some digital camera tips I will certainly take the lens cover off next time.

But hey I have my DSLR half day workshop booked for June so promise to give you a photo then.

REGULAR FEATURE; The High Life Ladies Guide to Finding Fine Wine

T his month we look at lively LOL Lucys choice of a South Eastern Australian Rose.

Lively LOL Lucy loves to laugh her way through life and will always see the brighter side of life, the half glass full and the good lessons learnt from the bad experiences.

Introducing the wine to Lucy a regular rose drinker; the front of the bottle pretty label states Firetail Estate Selection Shiraz Rose; named after a beautiful small distinctive bird native to South Eastern Australia Well sounds a little like me laughs Lucy a beautiful distinctive bird LOL!

On to the label on the reverse of the bottle; The Firetail Shiraz/Rose is made using only selected parcels of grapes from exclusive vineyards in South Eastern Australia. Its vibrant pink colour and spicy watermelon aromas are followed by ripe strawberry and citrus flavours and a crisp

clean finish. Enjoy on its own with grilled king prawns and Aioli.

Best served chilled completes the label so removing the bottle out of the fridge after a couple of hours all that is required according to the experts, we served a taster to Lucy. She in turn replied A tip for your readers having a party? Not enough space in the fridge with all your buffet?

On a cold crisp winters evening stick your bottles outside not in the street or you might gain a few new guests ha LOL!

Lucys view A pretty bottle for a beautiful bird, delicate in taste and deliciously fruity.

I found the wine slightly dry for a rose and would prefer a little sweetness but I would choose it as an accompanying wine to serve with salmon and stilton parcels one of my favourite dishes.

The Firetail Rose was purchased from a local branch of the Cooperative on a half price offer at 4.99. Great value for money.

The Pan Am uniforms are all about figure-hugging femininity, so try pairing a pencil skirt with a delicate chiffon blouse. Block colour was huge in the 60s, so this mint green pencil skirt from Topshop is ideal.

Alternatively, you could opt for a snug sheath dress. They look especially beautiful on an hour glass figure. This BHS nude, block colour

dress is perfect. Team with a fitted jacket and pull in your waist with a thin belt to create even more shape. Accessorise up your look with a pair of kitten heels, all the rage in the Pan Am era. I just love these classy and ultra feminine blush heels from Dorothy Perkins. Match with a classic lady bag or holdall to finish off the look. And dont forget that a

chiffon scarf or smart gloves can give that Pan Am air stewardess twist to any outfit.

R egular Feature: Living the Family High Life Introducing Jos Jollies

Take a Swing at Mansfield Golf Club and Driving Range Ltd After watching the TV coverage of the Masters over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, the boys decided it was time to dust off their golf clubs; we are not quite ready for a trip around a course, and especially not with an eager 3 year old in tow and the prospect of rain showers every day!

So, we paid a visit to Mansfield Golf Club and Driving Range Ltd, where we spent a very pleasurable couple of hours. I walked in with some trepidation, William and Lewis plus their sports mad sleepover friend looking quite the little professionals with their clubs on their backs, and then, Eleanor, with a club from the boys first ever set in her hand, making sure we didnt forget she wanted a go. What sort of reception would I get as it was realised that any peace at the centre would soon be shattered. Well, a very welcome one.

First stop was the shop for new golf gloves each, where the gentleman serving us could not have made us more welcome. He helped the boys try on the gloves to make sure they got the right size and fit and then told them how to store and look after them to make sure they lasted and didnt get spoiled. Then we got our tokens for our basket of balls, 40 is 3 and 80 4, the gentleman even suggested the most cost effective way of buying the balls to save some money.

Out onto the range we all concentrated well but 10 year olds are not that quiet by nature. The range was reasonably quiet but those who were already there practicing didnt mind the boys at all. All in all it was a very pleasurable experience, we were all

made to feel very welcome by everyone we met and all managed to hit some good shots, an added bonus! Thanks to the gentleman who gave the boys a ball each so that they could then go and practice on the putting green and crazy golf at the front of the reception area.

We will certainly go again, I am even tempted to dust my own clubs down and may be go to one of the adult group coaching sessions Mondays 10 11 am and 7 -8 pm, junior group coaching is Saturday mornings 10 11.

There is now also an 18 hole golf course which you can play as a non-member or pay an annual membership for use of all the facilities.

Of course, we usually tire before the children, so whilst they are having their umpteenth round of crazy golf or work their way down their 2nd 3rd or 4th basket of balls you could always make use of the coffee shop facilities!

    AWAKENING.

Nose to the rail, the child surveys the scene with enthralled gaze bewitched by sights and sounds,

scared, enraptured, and all things else between. Were never quite the same when life dumbfounds.

The music swells, the curtain rising high reveals another world of make-believe we all have occupied, wondering why

reality can so deceive. For now she needs her cuddly, soft toys more

and bedtime stories soothing her to sleep. Her future still awaits, time to explore

this glimpse of heaven she will forever keep. And though the path ahead lies straight and keen,

a beam of hope will light the way, unseen. Villia Bullock

Newstead Abbey, is set to host an episode of the popular BBC TV programme, Antiques Roadshow

The Sunday evening staple will be filmed at the ancestral home of Romantic poet Lord Byron on Thursday June 14, for broadcast at a later date.

The abbeys staff hope that its television appearance will give the Nottingham City Council-owned venue a huge publicity-boost that will encourage more people to visit.

Presented by well-known newsreader Fiona Bruce, Antiques Roadshow is one of the longest-standing programmes on TV and regularly attracts audiences that place it in the top 20 of the countrys most-watched shows.

Thousands of visitors queue up to get their family heirlooms, jumble-sale bargains and quirky keepsakes valued by the programmes team of antiques experts.

And some of the historically-important artefacts at Newstead are also bound to be discussed during filming.

Details of the times of the filming will be announced soon. It will be free to attend and visitors do not need to book in advance, although car-parking for the day will cost 5.

Newstead Abbey will be asking for volunteers to help marshal the event, assisting visitors to find their way to the different areas.
