The Himalayas arebased in Asia.They are the biggestmountain range in theworld. They also have thetallest mountain in theworld called Mount Everest.It is 8,848m high. TheHimalayas cover an areafrom east to west of 612,021sq. km.Himalaya means ‘ abode ofsnow’. Him meaning snowand alaya meaning abode.

The Himalayan climatechanges according tothe elevation. Thehigher you get thecolder it gets. The loweryou get the wetter itgets. The weather in theHimalayas can change very quickly. In winter thereis heavy snow and icytemperatures. Alot of snowsettles on the tip of themountains.
In the Himalayas they play a variety of
sports including : skiing, sleighing,
snowboarding, sledding, tobogganing. Lots
of tourists go to the Himalayas to ski.
In the Himalayas theybelieve that there is abeast called The Yeti. Itis supposed to looklike a man covered inshaggy hair. The Yeti issupposed to be 6-8 feettall. People claim they haveseen it but there is no actualevidence that it lives.
The main river in theHimalayas is river Indus. It enters theHimalayas from thesoutheast. It is at anelevation of 4200m.There are also otherrivers such as the Sutlej,Ganga and theBrahmaputra.
The plants in theHimalayas change as Igets colder. At thesouthenfoot there livestall grass and reeds.Some tigers and boarslurk around down there.When you get above3000m you will finddeciduous trees such asbirches and oaks. Higher thereis coniferous woods.
