The Beatles

• The Beatles where some of the first artists to do music videos however they were short films that music was played behind so it told a story of a part of there lives.

• In 1964, The Beatles starred in their first feature film A Hard Day's Night, directed by Richard Lester. Shot in black-and-white and presented as a mock documentary, it interspersed comedic and dialogue sequences with musical ones. The musical sequences furnished basic templates on which countless subsequent music videos were modelled.

Why are music videos important?

• They are important because they promote the artist/ band. They also can tell a story that can be to do with the song or to do with the artists personal experiences. They are primarily made in order to entertain viewers and give them something visual not just audio. Music videos are great as they bring in extra revenue for the artists/ record companies as they are a good marketing strategy.

Music videos I remember

• Michael Jacksons thriller because of the setting it is in and because of how he dances.

• LMFAOs party rock because of how it tells a story of dancing in a street as time stops.

• Ben Howards keep your head up because the story that is told is that he builds a water slide through woods and fields with his friends and it is different to most other videos.

• Rudimental waiting all night because it tells a story of how a man rides his bike and gets hit by a lorry. He loses his leg but over time learns to ride bmx again. It is a very inspirational video.
