The Home Times Issue #1 December 3, 2010 Supplemental Newsletter To The Morton Memorial Alumni Homesite-Rev. Welcome to the re-launching of the new Home Times. For the 100+ subscribers that were with me in the late 1990’s, you should remember the newsletter that I distributed monthly back then. It was also called The Home Times. This is an independent newsletter that will be published online bi- monthly. It will include announcements, obituaries and any other pertinent information that needs to get out to our Alumni. It is not meant to replace the Home Journal, as there will never be another newsletter like it-ever. I know many of you have written to me, and you miss getting your copy every month. I feel there is a need to get information out to our Homies. This is not an Alumni Association newsletter, even though I am a Lifetime Member of our Alumni and will certainly be promoting any Alumni Association activities if mutually agreed on by the Alumni Association officers. I was told once that I make too much of my websites and that they have no bearing on bringing our Homies together. Clearly a remark made by someone who has no clue! Yes, it is important to me, because I have made it and our Homies a big part of my life’s work and daily priority. This is my choice and always has been and I am not sorry for one second of the dedication that it takes. It has not been a one-day trip-get the glory-then you leave. It’s been a lovely 10- year dedication while getting to know so many of you personally. The Home and our alumni are in my heart and this newsletter is a continuance of my gift back to friends/Home that has been good to my family. It’s just another way to bring us together and at no cost to you-EVER! You can always e-mail me at: [email protected] Or, simply pick up the phone and call me at: (386) 295-1576. I doubt if there has been many days gone by in the past 11 years for which I haven’t spoken to one of you---and I have loved it! Welcome to the re-launching of the new Home Times. For the 100+ subscribers that were with me in the late 1990’s, you should remember the newsletter that I distributed monthly back then. Not only do I maintain the Morton Homesite and the Facebook Alumni page, I also love the research I do for the families of

former students. I own my own Graphic Design business called “The Sky’s The Limit Design.” I love my work as a

photographer/graphic-designer however, the work I do for our Alumni has gone straight to my heart for many years. The

friendships I have made, both near and far, are priceless. On most days you can catch me scanning and e-mailing photos as requested. For example; a lady who’s grandmother graduated

from Morton back in 1929 was so excited having seen her grandmother’s senior picture for the first time! I have had many

just like her over the years. My most recent letter was from a gentleman for whom his grandfather entered the Home in 1886. He was the son of a Civil War Veteran, among some of the first

children to reside at the Home.

Our Home was an amazing and unique place to live. I am proud to be a tiny part of the History of such a great place that

helped so many children over 144 to 145 years.

In this first issue of the Morton Home Times you will see my name a lot. However, in the future, I will step back (just like I have for many years on the Morton Homesite) and make this

newsletter about all of you. Please submit information and be a contributor whenever possible. Your contributions will be

appreciated! Thanks to all!!! ~Susie ‘71
