A New Year greetings to you in the name of our Lord! I always feel a bit mixed about this time of the year. We say goodbye to 2013 and we remember the good and move past the bad. For some, the calendar cannot change quick enough! As good or as bad as 2013 may have been for some, hopefully we can all see the Lord at work. If you are wondering why I feel a bit mixed, it is because I am so thankful for how faithful the Lord has been in the past year. At the same time, I am excited to see what He has in store for the next! What about you? Is the new year simply a flip of the calendar without any real meaning or significance? What IF 2014 is the last year you get on this planet? Whoa! This pastor’s page just took a turn! How would you live your life differently if you knew you wouldn’t see 2015? For many, the answers would sound like: * Spend as much time with family and friends as possible * Make sure all arrangements are in order * Do some/all “bucket list” experiences What else? I imagine you can think of a few things! But something is missing: Living with an urgency that is tied to the Gospel of Christ! The truth is we don’t know when our life will end or when this world will end. Therefore we live each day in the reality that life is fleeting. How do we choose to spend that time? Surprisingly, or not surprisingly, many choose to live life never even thinking about this. I’m not trying to be dark here, but don’t you want to live everyday to the fullest? Without regret? Don’t you want to be ready for when the Lord comes? Don’t you want to help others be ready as well? Some heavy things to think about to start the year... In Christ, Pastor Moreno Luke 12: 35-40 “Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning, and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will dress himself for service and have them recline at table, and he will come and serve them. If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them awake, blessed are those servants! But know this, that if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into. You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” January 2014

A Promising New Year?

For many, the answers would sound like:

* Spend as much time with family and friends as possible

* Make sure all arrangements are in order

* Do some/all “bucket list” experiences What else?

In Christ, Pastor Moreno

Luke 12: 35-40

“Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning, and be like men who are waiting for

their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at

once when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake

when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will dress himself for service and have them recline at

table, and he will come and serve them. If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and

finds them awake, blessed are those servants! But know this, that if the master of the house

had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken

into. You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

Gospel according to St. JohnJanuary 14 through March 11Over 90% of John’s Gospel is unique to him; so it is not considered one of the synoptic (one view) Gospels. John is interested in telling the story of Jesus in a thematic manner that has high Christology. Join us!

Financial Peace University January 16 through March 13We all need a plan for our money. Financial Peace University (FPU) is that plan! It teaches God's ways of handling money. Through video teaching, class discussions and interactive small group activities, FPU presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you've dreamed you could be.

This plan will show you how to get rid of debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely, and much more!

Sunday School Restarts Jan. 12Join us Sunday mornings starting January 12 as we resume our Bible study

Hygiene Kit EventIn January we will be emphasizing the personal care kits and hope to assemble a minimum of 25 kits for our local homeless. In addition, we are excited about working with the Nerve to Serve youth in providing hygiene kits for WEGO Ministry students (Tina Schantzen's school in Nicaragua). This means that there may be additions to the regular list (found on the narthex table). More information will be forthcoming as we work out the details and determine our exact needs, although we currently need all items on the list. Please remember Hope's personal care kit ministry as you do your shopping, especially at Wal-Mart and Dollar Tree. Thank you!

2014 Budget

At the December congregation meeting, we approved the 2014 plan of ministry. The graphic to the side depicts the financial picture of what we are doing as a church. The total budget is $188,000. We also set three goals for 2014:1) Friendship Evangelism2) Start a Second Worship Service3) Increased participation
