EARLY 1900s

The seven Jacuzzi brothers emigrated to California from Italy.The brothers made great stridesin aviation by inventing the first enclosed cabin monoplane.

1920Incorporating their hydraulic insight, the Jacuzzi Brothers later made notable advancements in theagricultural pump industry.

The water used in any Jacuzzi® hot tub is equivalent to between 1 and 2% of the totalannual water consumption of a typical 4 bed detached home with a family of 5. If a hottub is well looked after and the water chemistry is managed efficiently, the need to drainand refill is less frequent.The following components are found in Jacuzzi® hot tubs, whichadd to water efficiency.

Energy usage calculations include initially heating the tub to 38ºC four times a year,maintenance of 38ºC with allowances for heat loss through the shell, cover and viaevaporation plus the energy used to power pumps and filters.

Using chemicals correctly will not only help you to enjoy your Jacuzzi® hot tub safely,but ensures water is cleaner for longer, making your tub last longer. The followingpages introduce you to basic chemical maintenance and cleaning routines to help youchemically treat your hot tub safely.

Due to the fact that hot tub water is warm, the chemical balance can alter easily,so it is important to test your hot tub water every day and if necessary, chemicallyadjust it to restore the water balance.

KEEPINGYOURTUB FREE FROM BACTERIA

SanitisationA sanitiser is a disinfectant chemical that is added tohot tub water to kill bacteria and keep it safe forbathers to sit in.The most popular (and strongest)sanitiser is chlorine.

Another popular choice is Bromine, which is less harshto sensitive skin and eyes. Most sanitisers are availableto buy as granules or tablets.Tablets must be used witha slow release dispenser. Oxidiser is a natural sanitiserbased on active oxygen and some people find this non-harmful option suits them best. It is generallyrecommended that a shock dose of chlorine isperiodically used to make sure that bacteria iscontrolled effectively this way.

INTRODUCING SOME CHEMICALTERMS BEFORE YOU GET STARTED:

MAINTAININGWATER BALANCE

pH - This is the term used to indicate whether thewater is acidic or alkaline. It uses a scale of 0-14where 7 is neutral. 7.2-7.4 is ideal for hot tubs.

Shock Dosing - This requires raising the sanitisationlevels usually to fight algae or deal with other waterproblems. A shock of Chlorine or Oxidiser/NonChlorine can be used, when the main sanitiser isChlorine or Bromine. If the main sanitiser is Oxidiser,chlorine can be used as a shock.

Alkalinity - This refers to the measure of alkaline saltsaffecting the balance of the water.

Hardness - This refers to the measure of calciumhardness affecting the balance of the water.

WATER TREATMENT

1. Test for sanitiser daily and test again after use.The amount of sanitiser needed will varydepending on the size of the hot tub, number of bathers and the temperature of the water.

2. Always check the pH levels – if the pH is incorrect (too alkaline or too acidic) it can lead todiscomfort and poor disinfection.

JACUZZI® CHEMICALS RANGE

JACUZZI® CHLORINE GRANULES 55%

Use Jacuzzi® Chlorine Granules to keep your hot tubwater clean and bacteria free. Chlorine is a strongsanitiser recommended for regular hot tub use.

JACUZZI® OXIDISER

Use Jacuzzi® Oxidiser (Non Chlorine) as a basicsanitiser to keep your hot tub water free frombacteria. It can also be used as a shock dose withother sanitisation. Jacuzzi® Oxidiser is based on activeoxygen, a natural sanitiser. It is still recommended thata little Chlorine or Bromine, used as a shock dose, isperiodically used to keep bacteria away.

JACUZZI® BROMINETABLETS

Use Jacuzzi® Bromine Tablets to keep your hot tubwater clean and bacteria free. Bromine is less harsh onsensitive skin and eyes, but is also an effective sanitiser.Tablets must always be used with a dispenser.

JACUZZI® pH+

Jacuzzi® pH+ will be required if the pH level of the hottub water is too low (too acidic).

JACUZZI® pH–

Jacuzzi® pH- will be required if the pH level of the hottub water is too high (too alkaline).

JACUZZI® HARDNESS INCREASER

To inhibit corrosion, it is generally beneficial to have ahigh calcium hardness level. Use Jacuzzi® HardnessIncreaser to raise hardness levels accordingly, especiallyin soft water areas.

JACUZZI® NO FOAMCosmetics, oils and various forms of pollution all contributeto the production of foam within a hot tub when air is beingintroduced. Jacuzzi® No Foam can be used as a weeklytreatment to prevent foam from starting.

TIPOnly when the chemicals have had timeto dissolve and circulate within the hottub is it safe to enter.

JACUZZI® CHEMICALS RANGE

JACUZZI® SPA CLEAR

Jacuzzi® Spa Clear is a clarifier. It is a liquid that isadded to hot tub water to aid filtration and is generallysuitable for both cartridge and sand filters.

JACUZZI® FILTER CLEANER

A clogged filter can lead to poor water quality. LiquidCartridge Cleaner is a traditional liquid cleaner whichis very effective in use.

JACUZZI® SPA POLISH

Helps to maintain the shine of your hot tub and toclean the heat retention cover.

JACUZZI® NO SCALEUsed on a regular basis, Jacuzzi® No Scale restrictsthe build up of scale and helps maintain swivellingwater jets.

JACUZZI® EVERYDAY CLEANER

As the name suggests, Jacuzzi® Everyday Cleaner iseffective in cleaning the tide line around a hot tub.This is a pH neutral product, ready to use fromits spray bottle and can be used everyday if required.

JACUZZI® ALGAECIDE

Used weekly, Jacuzzi® Algaecide, is an effective means ofpreventing algal growth when used in conjunction witha sanitiser.


WATER TREATMENT CONTINUED

JACUZZI® CHEMICALS RANGE DO’S AND DONT’S

Always read the label on each product andfollow the instructions.

Never mix chemicals.

Use clean containers for pre dissolvingchemicals.

If diluting chemicals, fill container with waterand add the chemical to the water, neverthe other way around. Mix thoroughly todissolve.

Try to avoid spills but in such an event useclean dry equipment to clear up.The bestplace to dispose of the spill could be in thehot tub but only if a small quantity ofchemical is involved.

Do not add chemicals to the hot tub whenit is in use.

Use chemicals in a well ventilated area.Beware of strong winds when using powders.

Keep chemicals away from children andanimals.

Limescale, which forms on the side of a hot tub(like the inside of a kettle) if left unseen, cancause damage to the-jets. Use Jacuzzi® No Scaleto prevent the build up of limescale.

Always shower before using your Jacuzzi® hottub. This helps keep your tub water cleanerfor longer.
