Beginning Jobs for CHHS Students

CHHS Dance CHHS Basketball Goes to State

When we plan to do something new and take the very first step we

must make sure that our first step is best because only then we will be able to do the entire work properly. And ex-perience also plays a very important role while working.

So if we think that after completing graduation we can do any work and be the best at it than we are wrong. If we start to do some work right from our teens than we can be really experienced

and the best at anything we do. There are many jobs out there for teenagers but I am going to tell you about the best good paying jobs for a teenager.

One of the best good paying jobs

the work of a salesperson. In this work you don’t need to have experience be-cause they will train you for your work.

There are some other good paying jobs for teens. One of the great ways to earn money is by babysitting. It is a very common work but at the same time it really pays you well.

For the best paying babysitting jobs for teens you will need to be good with kids and if you have younger sis-ter or brother than you might have ex-perience in this work.

Once you get a good reputation in this work you will get many offers from other parents.

Another type of work can be the job of delivering dinner to the patients at the hospital, or at a clothing store or food vendor at the mall. These types of jobs will get you a good salary and at the same time you might also get good discount from the store.

Other best paying jobs for teens can be working at a warehouse where you will just have to find the packages that needs to be sent out to the custom-ers.

These are some ideas to help you start looking and getting a job to earn some money during summer.

This winter, our Husky basket-ball team made Chino Hills High his-tory yet again with their journey to the Division 1 state championship game against San Ramon Valley. Although our boys did not walk away with title, our team presented why they are one of the best teams in the league. Season MVP and UCLA commit Lonzo Ball finished with 30 points before fouling out in the second round of overtime along with his brother Li’Angelo Ball, fellow UCLA commit who finished with 23 points.

Our huskies handed Corona Cen-tennial an upsetting defeat in the Re-gional Finals the week prior, a game the team states was one of the best

ever. Shooting guard Cameron Shel-ton says, “the hardest thing about this season was overcoming all of the chal-lenges and obstacles while maintaining focus through it all.” Next season, the team says their biggest asset will be their full team of added transfers. Also,

with another Ball brother, LaMelo Ball, added to the roster next year, we have complete faith in our boys.

The team dedicated this season to Nnamdi Okongwu, we huskies ex-tend our love and support to our stellar boys’ basketball team.

The 2014-2015 CHHS dance team received top honors at the CADTD State Champion National Competition at Tustin High School. The dance team received 1st place in their large lyrical, hip hop, medium lyrical, and interme-diate jazz and their small lyrical placed 3rd.

Therefore, this means that the CHHS dance team is currently state champions in those four routines!

A couple weeks later, the team went to their second nationals at the Anaheim Convention Center where they did very well again.

All five routines placed in their designated categories and we had two numbers make it into finals. Finals is a showdown between the best of the best from each category where they compete to be National Champions.

At the end of finals, our small lyri-cal placed third and our hip hop team was recognized with a second place.

With all of our 1st place achieve-ments, we were given numerous Championship banners that you see hanging in the gym. It’s safe to say that our dance team had a great finish to the season this year!

Anupriya SivakumarWith barely a month left of se-

nior year, it feels as if there are still so many things left unfinished.

When I was told at the very be-ginning of my high school career, that these four years would fly by and I would be graduating before I knew it, I didn’t realize just how quickly everything would happen.

Of course there were many days that felt like they would never end. Studying for calculus tests, writing up speeches for competitions, and marking books for AP English, were all a part of this never-ending list of priorities. However, these seeming-ly awful experiences allowed me to learn a great deal about myself and my surroundings.

Studying with classmates as we learned how to use our calculators together, practicing speeches with my peers, and crying from mutual frustration over close reading book after book - These were the experi-ences I have learned from and will carry with me to college.

High school has undoubtedly been restrictive and quite frankly, a bit of a drag, and I can’t truthfully say that I’ll miss it, but I know that I have developed into a strong indi-vidual from my four years here at CHHS. I’m very much looking for-ward to future endeavors in a new and exciting atmosphere!

Finding the Right Job For YouWhen considering job placements,

it is important to realize the different aspects of any specific job and choose the best fit for you.

Food and retail jåbs seem differ-ent on the surface, but in reality they are more similar than one may realize. For example, both food and retail jobs involve dealing with a large number of people on a daily basis. However, within those professions there are also many specific roles that do not require

customer interaction (in the case of food jobs, cooking; in retail, an exam-ple might be inventory). Furthermore, jobs related to food and retail also share similar work hours and wages.

However, there is an obvious dif-ference between food an retail jobs, being that food jobs require some knowledge and skill in cooking or as-sembling food while retail jobs do not require any such knowledge. Further-more, food jobs such as being a waiter or waitress rely heavily on tipping to make an income (which can be both an

advantage and disadvantage, depend-ing on each individual circumstance).

In retail, just as in food, there is a diversity of types of jobs. For example, if you are inclined towards entertain-ment, you might opt to apply to video game stores or book stores. Or if you enjoy fashion you might apply for a job at a clothing store. With food, there much less diversity.

Both food and retail are interest-ing industries in which many different types of skills can be put to use. It is up to the individual to decide which is best the fit for them. As it stands, both areas of work play an important func-tion in nearly everyone’s life, and it is crucial that capable men and women are employed in both food and retail.

Overall, job placement can be ex-tremely difficult, but research can al-low you to find the right job for you. It’s true that you may have to go through a couple of odd jobs to find the right one. However, once you find the right one, it’ll be worth it! Earning money and working hard gives you a strong sense of self-sufficiency, so go out and find that job!

There’s no feeling like driving around town with a full tank of gas. Opportunities are endless when you have the means to go anywhere you want. Perhaps, as teenagers, we take advantage of the fact that gasoline is readily available to us, especially if our parents are the ones paying for it.

We often don’t realize how much of a dent gasoline can make in our wal-lets. Not only is it upsetting to see gas prices increase every so often, it is also difficult to come to the realization that as Americans, we invest tons of money into gasoline, every single year.

What are some tips you can utilize to make your gasoline experiences less dull and draining? First of all, before you decide on what your “go to” gas

station is, you should invest some time into researching different gas stations. Take advantage of the resources that the internet has to offer you.

More often than not, people will post reviews of prices, level of custom-er service, and overall quality of their local gas station, online. Their reviews can play an important role in selecting the optimal gas stations for you.

Target the best day and time to fill up your tank. You definitely do not want to wait until your car is running on “E”, but you also don’t need to fill up after every quarter of the tank is used up. Avoiding crowds is a big deal breaker for those individuals on busy schedules.

After rush hour, you can almost guarantee that every gas station will be filled with cars, so choose a time where you can spare those few extra minutes

waiting in line to get gas. Another effective way of saving

gas is engaging in better driving hab-its. Accelerating too quickly and brak-ing abruptly are big gas wasters, so do your best to avoid those nasty habits. A little precaution can end up saving you hundreds of dollars every year!

We all know that filling up your car with gasoline is probably one of the most mundane activities, that also hap-pens to convenient drain your wallet.

However, on average, Americans spend a good majority of their time at a gas station, and they spend practically $2,000 a year just on gas.

So if you’re spending that much time and money doing something bor-ing, you might as well take the extra steps to make “the party” at the pumps slightly more enjoyable!

Photo courtesy of google photosJob placement can be tricky, but it is important to keep searching.

Parting Ways After CHHSAs high school nears its end, we

are all coming to the realization that we may not see a lot of the graduating class ever again. Some of us may be slightly ecstatic about not having to see a lot of our classmates again, while others may be deeply saddened by the fact that their closest friends will be across the country in a few months. Regardless of where you might be on this spectrum of attitudes, it is important to remember that you have spent four years of your life with a majority of these individu-als. Whether you are conscious of it or not, they have probably affected you in some way.

Aside from parting ways from your friends and classmates, you are also parting ways from an institution that academically challenged you for four years, gave you opportunities to become a leader, and opened you up to a plethora of opportunities to succeed. Personally, I had the privilege of join-ing clubs that I absolutely fell in love with - that allowed me to reach new heights in new places. Thinking of how

I’m going to be leaving that behind in less than a month, is kind of depress-ing. I’ve made so many wonderful memories here and I will undoubtedly miss them with all my heart.

Our memories here at Chino Hills High School definitely vary in great-ness, so it’s not an overexaggeration to say that many of us are absolutely thrilled to graduate. Parting ways from high school to move onto higher edu-cation is without a doubt, a milestone. At times, high school has been restric-tive and quite frankly, a little annoying. So when I say that I’m excited for col-lege, I mean it with every ounce of my being. I’m excited to meet new people, take interesting courses, join new or-ganizations, and experience life away from home.

Leaving high school behind is definitely bittersweet (maybe, slightly more sweet). Whether you’re making plans for college next fall, or you’re coping with the fact that you have to separate from CHHS, the future is bright. Leaving one thing behind, opens opportunities for other wonder-ful things to come forward.

Money Management The ability to successfully manage your money is a skill everyone needs to know. You need money for food, water, and housing. If you are not careful, you can end buried in a mountain of debt. Whether you are an old pro or you’re just starting out, these tips will help you to manage your money better. 1). Know your IncomeThe first step to financial success is be-ing honest with yourself. You need to take a look at your finances and figure out the exact amount of money you bring in each moth. The first step to better finances is understanding how much you make, so you can decide how that money is spent. 2) Start BudgetingWhen you don’t have a budget, you usually spend more money than you should. You can start with small things like giving your self a certain amount that you can spend when you go out with friends. You can probably go with-

out those pairs of shoes or those debt. Trying paying only in cash. You’ll be surprised how much less you spend when you have to physically hand over that hard-earned cash.4) Save save save! Whether it’s for college, retirement, or just a rainy day fund, having a sav-ings account is always a good idea. You never know when an emergency may appear and you will need that ex-tra cash to get by. A savings account is a financial safety net that will give you peace of mind and security. Also you earn interest when you leave your money in the bank. Admittedly, saving money is no easy feat. We all have temptations that causes us to spend our savings in an unreasonable manner here and there.

new video games. 3) Pay in CASH! This is one of the most important rules of the whole article, because it make you aware of how much you are spend-ing. It is easy to spend too much when you pay with a credit card. It is easy to simply swipe and sign, but this a slip-

pery slope. More often than not you’ll end up swiping your self into some major cash problems that can hurt you significantly. After all, what’s the point of saving money if you can’t spend it. Money may not buy you happiness, but it does buy you options. Options allow

Rather than beating yourself about it, establish a plan that will allow you to effectively tackle the issue that is your financial instability. It’s also impor-tant to remember that the occasional splurge on something you really want is completely fine, as long as you don’t make a habit out of it.

A&E Places To Go On a Budget Wishing Upon a Star

Students are notoriously cheep. Very few high school students have jobs, and as a result they are con-stantly on the look out for cheep ways to have fun. These activi-ties will insure that you and your friends have a good time, with out breaking the bank.

1) The Bowling alley-This ac-tivity may seem expensive at first sight, but with a crowd it becomes significantly cheaper. If you have more than four people Groupon.com is a great site for bowling up to seventy percent off.

2) The Shoppes -Here is a lit-tle secret. When you go into a store, you don’t have to buy something. Window-shopping can be a great opportunity for you and your gal pals to try on clothing that you nor-mally would never buy.

3) Beauty school-You and your girls can have a spa day with-out obliterating your budget. Some of you might not be keen on an inexperienced hairdresser taking scissors to your head. However beauty schools also have nail and cosmetology students. You can get a manicure or pedicure for a frac-tion of the normal coast. Facials and messages cost an average of ten dollars and the students will only perform facials with a professional in the room, so there is virtually no risk. Go online to look for beauty schools in your area.

4) The park-A trip to the park is not just for little kids. Call some friends and start a soccer or basket ball game. If you are not the sporty type, volleyball or volley tennis is a fun game that doesn’t require a lot of hand eye coordination.

The wish upon a star concert was a dazzling concert put on by Chino Hills High School’s very own Treble and Chambers choir. Singing songs not only by various genres and time periods, but also songs from all around the word from Mongolia to Swahili.

But that’s not all throughout the concert numerous choir mem-bers performed spectacular duets and solos really showing off their amazing talents. Then at the end coming together as one both choirs sang Wish Upon A Star from the Disney hit Pinocchio.

This was the first concert that the choir has ever put on in honor of World Wish Day. The best part of the concert had to be the fact that it was put on to raise money

for the Make a Wish foundation to reach their goal of granting their very first wish.

The club was able to bring out one of the kids who had been granted a wish back in 2010 tell-ing his story of what he wished for and the impact it had on his life. His wish was to go to Washington DC and meet President Obama. He spoke about the amazing experi-ence that he had and just the over-all awe that his wish came true.

The purpose of the wish isn’t to just give a sick person a last and final wish but to provide the pa-tient with a bit of encouragement to keep up the fight for their lives. After just two years this club has done so much great work raising awareness for this great cause. Overall the concert was a big hit for a good cause.

Chino Hills Extravaganza“There are many places in Chi-

no Hills that you can enjoy. Where are some of your favorite places to hang out?”-Andres Leonardo Luna: “I like to go to Altera Park (Next to Albert-sons) because it’s a huge park with a play set and basketball courts.”-Louis Enrique Gallegos: “Hunter Hills Park is a good place to escape and to get inspiration.”-Marco Anica: “The Chino Hills Shoppes because I love to walk around and go shop-ping for clothes.”-Kevin Shelley:-“Harkins Theater because I love watching movies.”Jonathan Wu:-“Ayala Skate Park because I like to BMX with my friends.”

-Rainier Townsend:“I like to go toVellano Park for the basketball Courts.”-Jennifer Lao: “The 85 degree bakery because there are a lot of fresh bread and the prices are cheap.” -Jerika Kate Manalo: “Starbucks because it’s relaxing, you can listen to soft music, and there’s coffee.”Ashley Gioeli:-“Dripp near the Shoppes because it is a really good atmosphere, a pretty chill place to hangout with your friends and their coffee is re-ally good.”-Enrique Marron: “In N Out because I love their french fries and burgers and I usual-ly hang out there with my friends.”

By Abby Meza How to Apply for Jobs

Are you in need of a job but not sure of how to apply?Well you’re in luck because with these helpful tips applying for jobs will be so much easier.1. Have an idea of where you want to apply and what kind of application is needed for such business. This step is very important because each establish-ment is different and so you don’t want to lose the opportunity of getting the job because you used the wrong appli-cation.2. Once you find a place that you want to apply to search the information that you must provide to employers. Such as how old you must be to work at such place, what positions are open, and if experience is needed. This is also a crucial point because you don’t want to over exaggerate yourself or skills on the application.3. Once you get your application it very important to remember that neat-

ness counts! If possible take the ap-plication home or print it out online so you can take your time to neatly fill out the application. Before turning in your application it is always a good idea to proof read it multiple times just to be sure that there are no spelling or gram-mar errors.4. It is also a good idea on your ap-plication to list previous experience if any at all. And if this will be your first job you can always put any volunteer or internship experience. Which can demonstrate to you employer the re-sponsible worker that you are.5. After turning in your application it is common that the next step is an interview. For the interview it is very important to remember to dress in ap-propriate attire. You never want to go to an interview looking like you just got out of bed. Remember to never put some-thing on your application that is not the truth because in the long run it will only end up hurting you.

The Greek theme rally went off with a bang as it was a great and fun way to end the last rally of the school year while also paying a tear-jerking tribute to Mrs. Roberts as well. The story to the rally consisted of a god-dess trying to find her perfect match causing the heroes to try to impress her with heroic acts. It came to a complete surprise to the students that the rally was not only a greek theme rally but also a blackout rally. It started off with fascinating performers who played with fire while dancing to current hits. This act sparked some excitement in students as the rally was enveloped in the darkness, the fire being the only el-ement illuminating the gym. Some of the competitive games that took place at this magical rally included partici-pants challenging each other to whom

can throw three bouncing balls into a kiddy pool first. Getting the whole student body involved trying to cheer on their class representatives. Another activity was a life-sized replica of the famous board game, Hungry Hungry Hippos, which involved two students from each class competing to gain as many plastic balls as they could. There were also fantastic performers from some of our own Husky students themselves including Polynesian Club, Dance Team, and Cheer; also followed by an epic performance from drum line who ranked number one in the world! Also there was a banner raising for cheer, basketball, and drumline. Lastly, the rally ended with great sentimental-ity as Mrs. Roberts conducted her last and final Husky Spell Out with the en-tire student body who definitely yelled as loud as they could to honor her for her commitment and dedication.
