sen introdu-ced newer member John Maluso, a sales associ-ate with Briggs Freeman. Jim Evans

President Fred Brown called the meeting to order. Cleve Clinton gave the invocation and asked that we remember in our prayers Hugh Griffith and Bob Heard, who are recuperating, Kendall Laughlin whose mother has passed away, and our members who are sick today. Rod Pirtle led the Pledge of Allegiance, the “Star Spangled Ban-ner,” and “You Gotta Be a Football Hero,” which he explained was written in 1933, de-spite is timeliness. Cub Amos introduced our visitors and guests, including former mem-ber Mario Messina and retired County Commis-sioner Maurine Dickey. Chris Short announ-ced The Hub and web advertisers, and that there are still opportunities for advertising for a half year in The Hub or for future months on the website.

Patsy Watson recapped the first half of the yearʼs proceeds to the RCPC Founda-tion; donations are approaching $10,000, and of the 178 RCPC members, 81 have contributed so far. She awarded Frank Monroe Fellow sta-

tus to David Baxter and Dennis Deven-port. She also reported that PP Rosemary Domecki had donated

$1500, to be divided and used so that four RCPC members could become Frank Monroe Fellows for only half of the usual donation of $750. Cub Amos, Chris Clausen, David Hill and Richard Stanford claimed the op-portunity. Congratulations! Pam Carvey announced Dentistry with a Heart on Feb. 15th. PE Cleve Clinton introduced new member Jeff McNaughton, who is a certified finan-cial planner, CPA and OSU fan. Chris Clau-

introduced our speaker to-day, Tim Millis, Executive Dir-ector of the NFL Referees Association.

He said officiating starts usually at games played by fifth and sixth graders by officials are members of the community. The officials at high school games are members of a

high school associ-ation. In Dallas there are 700 high school offi-cials; they are assigned to games by their association, which also provides training. Many small

colleges are affiliated with larger schools for training the officials. All officials want to get to the BCS level, but the training is more rigor-ous. A staff of five grades the films of games regarding the mechanics of the officiating, and report the results to the officials. How an individual officiates, who he watches and the way he lines up are considered. There are only 121 NFL officials. Potential NFL officials are scouted; they are observed for five or six games before they are interviewed. In the NFL every play is graded and the scores de-termine who officiates in the Super Bowl.

THOUGHTS ON . . .

Courage is a special kind of know-ledge; the knowledge of how to fear what ought to be feared and how not to fear what ought not to be feared.

But we will never forgive you for making us kill yours. ~ Golda MeirIf you want to make peace, you don't talk to your friends. HE PROFITS MOST WHO LAUGHS BESTAge Old Unanswerable Questions

When you blow into a dog's face, he gets mad at you. Why when you take him for a car ride, does he stick his head out the window?

Why do we press harder on a remote con-trol when we know the batteries are dead?

Why do banks charge a fee for "insuffi-cient funds" when they already know there is

Why do people believe you when you tell them there are four billion stars in the Milky Way, but check when you say the paint is wet?

Why does Tarzan have no beard?   Why did kamikaze pilots wear helmets?

Rotaryʼs Six Areas of FocusRotary clubs serve communities around

the world, each with unique concerns and needs. Rotarians have continually adapted and improved the way they respond to those needs, taking on a broad range of service projects. The most successful and sustaina-ble Rotary service tends to fall within one of the following six areas:• Peace and conflict prevention/resolution• Disease prevention and treatment• Water and sanitation

• Maternal and child health• Basic education and literacy• Economic and community development Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation recognize these six areas of fo-cus as organizational priorities. There are countless ways that Rotarians can address these needs locally and internationally.

Resources relating to each of the areas of focus are available on the Rotary website: www.rotary.org/en/serviceandfellowship/areasoffocus/Pages/ridefault.aspx
