thinking?” He said that it was not to fulfill a dream, but as an author and a professional in the health and fitness industry, he thought it would make a good book. He said that for over twenty years he has been encouraging people to realize that there is a relationship between physical fitness and leadership per-formance. He wants to inspire people that there is no expiration date on quality of life; it really depends on what each individual wants to do. He also wants to encourage people not to give up when they set a goal, which doesn’t happen right away. As well as the physical benefits of physical fitness, there are many intangible benefits, as well. He said we must all lead ourselves. He experienced that when he had to force himself to go to practice. He feels that priorities are tough, but our ability to maintain those priorities is how we achieve a good quality of life.
Howard Fitch awarded a Blue Badge to John Reed.

THOUGHTS ON . . .
SecurityToo many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity. They seem more afraid of life than death.
~ James F. ByrnesBetter be despised for too anxious apprehensions, than ruined by too confident security.
~ Edmund BurkeLife is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security does not ex- ist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than exposure.
~ Helen KellerIf money is your hope for inde-pendence you will never have it. The only real security that a man will have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience, and ability. ~ Henry Ford

• During the middle of the meal, your uncle turned to your aunt and said, "See, I told you they wouldn't notice that the turkey was four months past its expiration date. You were worried for nothing."• When everyone went around to say what they are thankful for, your nephew said, "I'm thankful I didn't get caught" and refused to say anything more.
Things we hope you didn’t hear at your Thanksgiving Dinner• Granddad prepared a several hour long speech to give when asked about his thankful-ness. He insisted that no one leave or eat until he had finished the speech.• Your son brought a date who only talked about the tragic and abusive conditions known to exist at turkey farms – and she brought
The new global grants, part of The Rotary Foundation’s Future Vision Plan, require that projects keep on giving, after the funds run out. Sustainable efforts also should help as many people as possible, respect the environ-ment and local culture, involve grassroots or-ganizations such as Rotary Community Corps, seek input from those served, and pass on the lessons learned. All clubs and districts should emphasize training and the exchange of infor-mation so communities can maintain results and

solve problems on their own. Examples of these projects and what makes them sustainable are given on the Rotary web-site, www.rotary.org/en/MediaAndNews/The Rotarian/Pages/volunteering1011.asp.
The examples range from taking care of or-phans in Kenya, feeding children in Romania, or spreading literacy in The Philippines to improv-ing the lives of the Batwa in Uganda, making far-ming more profitable in India, or improving water and sanitation in Honduras.
