The human species has the highest energy rate density of any known organism or mass (including that of stars, like our Sun).

In this sense, we are the highest concentration of the Universe within itself.

The Human StoryEach atom of carbon in

the Universe, in our bodies, was created in

a supernova, the explosion of a dying

Sun.

We are here because of a stellar sacrifice.

Yet our existence is an anomaly, occurring only

under certain cosmic Goldilocks conditions.

As such, the story of our species goes back beyond the advent of homo sapiens

(200k years ago),

to the creation of our planet (4.54B years ago)

and the explosion from nothing to something (13.88

B years ago).

The Human Story

Although we spent the first 195k years of our human existence chasing food,

today, we are a species capable of excellence in an

infinite variety of forms.

We are poets, activists, dreamers, social

entrepreneurs, lovers, saints, healers, scholars, leaders,

explorers and artists.

The Human Story

What makes us so varied?

Page 4: The Human Story (8 slides from the Big Bang to today)

Perhaps these variations are due to to our Hox

genes, allowing us more time to mature physically and cognitively than any

other species,

to play and create and entertain questions about the cosmos, society and

our role in it.

Around 8k years ago, we began creating tools to

explore the cosmos and our place in it.

And we are still searching.

The Human Story

Since the Enlightenment, we remain a species without a blueprint, only an

ability to create tools,

to pose and explore existential questions, to drink from the knowledge

and questions of our elders.

In essence, we are possibility itself, a juxtaposition of orthodox traditions,

heretical questions and spiritual ideals.

We are the largest question the Universe has dared to ask itself.

The Human Story

When we started writing on the walls of caves and later on papyrus, we transcended our genetics,

emerging as a cultural species, possessed of a heritage that makes more of life possible with each

successive generation,

The Human Story

through our artistic, political, economic, scientific and spiritual disciplines.

What would it mean to be a human without Shakespeare, Civil Rights, psychology, the

Internet and meditation?

13.88B years of Universal events lead to the moment where you came into it. As a member of the human species, in light of the good still left to be done,

in light of the vast quantity of the cosmos that is still unexplored, in light of the deep burn within your soul, in light of the broadest possible conception of your

existence, the Universe asks you,

“What will you do to honor your role in The Human Story?”

The Human Story

There are many ways to honor your role in the cosmos, as each of us has a distinct purpose. It is up to us to find it.

We can also choose to articulate our purpose in the context of our species, through meditations like the EVR1 Symbol

(bottom left), and/or carrying a digital copy of The Human Story in an EVR1 product.
