I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. THE GATHERING Leader: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE Komm, Gott Schöpfer, Heiliger Geist J.S. Bach

(Come, Creator God, Holy Spirit) Rev. Dr. Jonathan Crutchfield, organist

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: I will bless the Lord at all times; God’s praise shall continually be in my mouth. People: My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. Leader: O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt God’s name together. People: I sought the Lord, and God answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. Leader: Look to God, and be radiant, so your faces shall never be ashamed. People: We have come to worship God, our creator, redeemer and sustainer. -Psalm 34:1-5

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, you have loved us from generation to generation. You have shown your faithfulness more often than we can recall. The stories of the Bible tell us as often as we will look of your steadfast mercy. Yet we live as though it would be better for us not to know. We live holding on to past hurts; we are not open to your new creation. We prefer the safety of what we know to the excitement of discipleship. We run from your holiness and cling to sin. Forgive us, we pray, and make us again as you would have us be. We make all of our prayers in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: By grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God - not the result of works, so that no one might boast. People: For we are what God has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life. Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel: People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. -Ephesians 2:8-10

*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE

Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all! People: And also with you.
