Women’s Bible Study for Summer
This summer the pastors are leading
a three part Bible Study for the women
of our church on the Parables of Jesus.
The July study will be Tuesday, July 16
at 2 P.M. in the Social Hall. Everyone
is welcome. Bring your Bible!
115th Anniversary Directory Our new pictorial directory has arrived! All those who
had their picture in the directory get a free copy. Other
members are welcome to purchase a directory for $5. The
directory may be picked up by stopping at the church office
during office hours.
Parking
We have a number of older members who appreciate
being able to park in front of the church on Lafayette each
Sunday morning. If you are able to walk a little ways to get
into the church building, please leave the close parking
spots for our elderly members. Thank you.
Our Sympathy
Our sympathy to the family of Maynard Olson who
passed away on Sunday, June 23. The visitation will be at
the church from 4-7 P.M. on Wednesday, June 26 and the
funeral will be Thursday, June 27 at 10:30 A.M.
Our Daily Bread
The “Our Daily Bread” devotional books for this quarter
are available on the shelf in the narthex. Why not make this
little book a part of your “summer” reading.
Seasoned Souls
Steve and Miriam Skartvedt will be
hosting our next Seasoned Souls gathering on
Saturday, June 29 at 5:30 P.M. Their address
is 1039 8th Street in Story City. (They live
right across the street from the North Park.)
Meat, table service and drink will be
provided. If your last name begins with letters
A-L, please bring a salad to share. If your last
name begins with letters M-Z, please bring a
dessert. Any questions, please contact Corine
Nordeen at 733.4089 or Jaynee Christian at
733.2710. All Seasoned Souls are welcome!
A Summer Tour Through Galatians
The pastors have been exploring the letter to the
Galatians these summer weeks. They will conclude with
Chapter 5 on June 30 and Chapter 6 on July 7. You
won’t want to miss these special messages.
Prayer Time continues each Sunday this summer
“Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will
find, knock and the door will be opened to you.” Luke
11:9 To add to our prayer ministry at Immanuel, we are
having a time of prayer from 9-9:15 A.M. in the chapel
each Sunday. This is an informal time of prayer for the
worship service and for other needs and concerns you
bring to the group. The pastors are leading. Everyone is
welcome.
Missionary Presentation
Dear Friends:
The Immanuel Missions
Committee invites you to
mark your calendar for
Tuesday, July 23rd. That evening Pastor
Andy Coyle, from Eastern European Missions
Network, will be presenting to those in
attendance, what has been transpiring at the
Ukraine Bible Training Center. During the
past two years, Immanuel has been assisting
Andy and his wife, Monica, and their three
children, Moriah, Isaiah and Josiah, in their
service to the people of the Ukraine in
spreading God's Word to them.
We, the committee, sincerely hope that you
are able to attend, so that you may put another
face with one of our missionaries. The
presentation will be held in the Social Hall
from 7-8 P.M.
Blessings to All,
Immanuel Missions Committee
New Church Website
Our new church website is now up and running at the
same address (www.immanuelstorycity.org). We thank
our website committee for their hard work in getting it
organized. It is very user friendly and has a lot of helpful
information and pictures. Our desire is to keep it up to
date so that it can be a ready source of information for
you concerning all church activities and ministries.
Tim & Paula Tjernagel
Please be in prayer for Tim & Paula
Tjernagel and their family as they travel from
Spain to Iowa to begin their summer furlough.
They are bringing with them nine Spanish
youth from their community for a cross
cultural exchange. Three Immanuel families
are hosting some of the youth in their homes.
The Tjernagels will be with us for our worship
service on Sunday, July 28.

service, 35% with members of their family at meals,

summer Bible Camp receives a $100 scholarship from
the congregation. Any youth attending Alpha Camp

summer. Please pray that all will experience the
presence and power of our Lord Jesus Christ!
Note: Anyone wanting to attend camp, but in need
of further financial help in order to attend, should let

From Your Church Library
Php. 1:9 “…and this is my prayer: that your love
may abound more and more in knowledge and
depth of insight…”
In the July column, I would like to introduce you to
some “small” books. Check them out on the new
bookshelf and you’ll see what is meant by “small”
books.
People in the Bible by Woodrow Kroll In this
“small” book, you will encounter 125 heroes,
villains and ordinary souls who despite problems
and imperfections chose to trust and obey God.
Remember, there is only one perfect person in
scripture.
In Light of Eternity by Randy Alcorn This
“small” book presents some new perspectives on
heaven. Learn to have a “robust, accurate, and
biblically energized view of heaven that will
bring you a new spiritual passion.”
Simple Little Words by Michele Cox It takes
only a “simple little word” to change a person’s
life forever. Through short stories, in this “small”
book, you’ll be reminded of Prov. 15:23: “and a
word spoken in due season how good it is!” when
speaking with family, friends, co-workers and
others.
The Prayer Matrix by David Jeremiah In this
“small” book, Pastor Jeremiah provides some
strong Theological and practical arguments to
stop us from being lazy about prayer. You can
make a difference, your prayers mean more than
you realized. Let this book restore and
reinvigorate your prayer life.
The Truth about Marriage by Robert Knight
This “small” book defends God’s design for the
family. Knight shows why marriage, as God
made it, is indispensable to human civilization.
A few “small” fiction books are also available,
books by T. Davis Bunn, Louisa May Alcott and
Donna VanLiere. Check out all these “small” but
powerful books.
Our Church Library, it’s a good thing!
Summary of June Council Meeting - June 13, 2013
Joint Council President Joel Danielson called the meeting to order. Judy
McIlrath led us in devotions.
Report of the Treasurer. Joel Gabrielson reviewed the income
and expense report. Special estate donation is in the money
market account. This year is similar to other years going into
the summer. Report Approved.
Report from the Endowment Fund Committee. Recommended
that 50% of $52,515.30 received from Thora Kinseth Estate be
designated to property improvement with the final decision to
the Trustees and 50% to the Endowment Fund. There will be a
similar amount expected to be received within 6 to 12 months.
Joel Gabrielson moved and Jeff Loots seconded the
recommendation of the Endowment Committee. Approved.
Board Reports
Reviewed process for establishing YEMC position and
approved names for the interview committee. Results of the
congregational meeting vote approved the YEMC position by a
vote of 110-6. Job listing will be on websites soon. Joel
recommends five members with both pastors as advisers. Joel
recommends Jenni Talbott, Jaynee Christian, John Rathmacher,
Rod Bunn and Deb Olson. It was suggested that a separate
youth interview team be formed as well. The announcement of
the position will be posted for approximately thirty days with a
deadline of July 15th. Terry Thompson moved to approve

It was agreed that all health insurance will be evaluated and

year.

for the ones that cannot.

wiring has been completed that included new wiring to the
house, 200 amp service, new breaker box and outlets for the
