What kind of platforms are available? What kind of content is most appropriate? What are the organization’s most important needs now and in the future? workflowinsideyourorganization—thecrowdlearningwithinyourorganizationandhowyoustructurethatbasedonaday-to-day:WhatprojectsamIworkingon?WhatinformationdoIneed?Whohasthatinformationorcangivemesomeguidance?Now,thinkaboutwhatyou’redoingwiththeLMS.You’regoingtothatK-12experience.You’regoingtothatlaptopwithaverylong-windedinstructortoleadcontent.It’sdrivenfromthetopdowntoalltheiremployeeswhothentakeatimeoutfromtheirworkflowtolearn.That’snotexactlythemostproductivemodel.Kuzel:Whathappensiflearningleadersdon’tconsiderthateverydayworkflow?Scholnick:Employeesaredoingitthemselves.They’reconstructingthelearningmodelthatworkswiththeirowndailyworkflow.Youhaveasetofwebsitesyouvisit,articlesyouread,andpeopleyoufollow.Youpullitfrommultipledifferentworkplacesoutsideofyourorganization,andthenyoupullfrominsideyourorganization.You’veconstructedyourownnarrativeforlearning,yourownworkflow.Thathasnothingtodowiththeorganization.Thenthere’saseparateinstancecalledyourorganization’slearningmodel.Thereissomeimportantcontentforwhatyoudo,forbrushingupontechnologyandlearning—whatIwouldcallanchorcontent.Thenthere’sdifferenttypesofresponsestothatanchorcontentthatyoucouldlearnfromandageneraldiscussion.Ifyoudon’ttakeadvantageofwhatpeopleareorganicallyconstructing,you’regoingtoenduplosingthataudience.Kuzel:Whataretheperksofeliminatingalloftheadditional,topdownlearningtechnologyfeatures?Scholnick:We’renottryingtoeliminatecorecontenttheorganizationneedsyoutolearnfrom.We’rejusttryingtoputitintothecontextofhowyoulearnandhowyoulearnwithyourcoworkers.Soit’snotsuchaforced,isolatedexperience.It’sanexperiencethatworkswithhowyoudoyourdaytoday.Itbecomesmuchmoremeaningful.Kandyofferstheabilitytodeepenthatorganicframework.ItgivesuswhatwecallwebRTC,orunifiedcommunication—thingslikegroupchat,videochat,texting,storageofdatainparticularagainstathread.Somethingthat’sverypopularthatalwaysgetsunderappreciatedispresence.Presencetellsyouwho’sonline.Inthecontextoflearningthat’sverypowerful.YoucangetonlineinaBraidiolearningenvironmentandsay,“Danny’sonline.
