MOVING MOUNTAINS MISSION: 8-11TH MARCH 2018 I think it is right to say, that there is a saying, which goes something like, ‘Just when you are getting really tired of trying to communicate something, the people you are trying to communicate with, are just beginning to hear the message for the first time!’ .... It is on that basis that I write again this month,in the hope, that some people in our lovely region might just have heard the phrase

‘Inglewood Moving Mountains Mission 2018’, and possibly started to wonder what it refers to!....

SO...WHAT IS ‘THE MOVING MOUNTAINS MISSION 2018’ ALL ABOUT?...Well, to start with, it is a special weekend for Cumbria... ‘the brainchild’ of the Archbishop of York, no less! When is it?... Between Thursday the 8th March and Sunday the 11th March, which is

Mothering Sunday 2018. Over the course of one ‘early Spring weekend’, we are return-ing to our roots!

What will happen?... All the Church of England’s Northern Bishops, as well as their equiva-lents in the Methodist Church, the Northern Methodist Circuit Chairs, will be visiting the county, to meet us, to share our faith and simply to enjoy one another’s company over a series of local events, that are being laid on by the churches and chapels of the County, who are working together to do something special.

Why is it happening?... The events which we lay on over the Moving Mountains Weekend are intended to demonstrate the simple and gracious LOVE that we believe God has for all of us. They are to be a GIFT to our communities, given because we believe that God’s love is a gift.... freely given and freely to be received by those whom he is calling. For this reason, many of the events will be FREE. Please do come along and ‘enjoy!’

In order to run the Mission here in the Inglewood area, we will be joined by a team of 14 peo-ple. Some will be ‘clergy’... but most will not. They are coming simply because they want to help. The leader of the mission in our area will be the Methodist District Chair for the Isle of Man, the Revd Richard Hall, who used to be the Minister at Penrith Methodist Church. He will be supported by Ruth Hall, Linda Eccles, and Bishop Chris Edmondson, the recently retired Bishop of Bolton. Alongside them, 10 men from St Stephen’s Church, Preston have volunteered to help. Among them, is their Vicar, the Revd Dave Hanson. What can I say? For a ‘lonely Vicar’ in a rural area, it is overwhelming to find that people, from miles away, want to come and share our lives.

WHAT ARE THE AIMS OF THE MISSION?To INVOLVE congregations in our area in God’s loving mission to his world. To work ecumenically, because we believe that, where there is UNITY between believers, God ‘commands a blessing.’To CONNECT with people who are not currently in a congregation or church, and let them

know, that we believe that God loves them and their community. To provide a RANGE of events, that might be of interest to people of all ages and stages. To stay in touch with people who want to know more.

For over a year now, I have been praying that, what we do between the 8th and the 11th of March this year, will be a ‘blessing’ to every single person in our region. ‘Why not come along to one of the events publicised in this magazine, and find out what that could mean for you!’

COTTAGE WOOD CENTRE

We had a wonderful evening when 4 members spoke about their visit to the Holy Land in March last year. The evening began with a flavour of the food which they had while out there which included Jacobs Lentil soup. There was 50 meals served before the members talked about their experience walking in the steps of Jesus. Donations were given at the end of the evening and around £300 will be given to the charity. This money is going to the Friends of the Holy Land to help with the work there. A huge thank you to all who came to support us.
