The Institute was created as a means of connecting Penn State Harrisburg with the state capital community. The primary role of ISRA is to further the University’s public service and applied research mission by using Penn State’s interdisciplinary resources and approaches in undertaking projects that serve the public interest. As a college-wide applied research institute, ISRA falls under the jurisdiction of the Associate Dean for Research. Although the specific activities of ISRA have changed over the past years, its strong, unrivaled commitment to applied social science research and public service has remained constant. Four staffed centers comprise the Institute. Data Centers in each state assist the Bureau by disseminating Census data and other federal data sets and information. Each Data Center has an internal statewide affiliate network to further assist in disseminating data to local users. These affiliates also have local information and expertise to offer. A full listing of affiliates can be obtained from the PaSDC and its website. THE STATE DATA CENTER NETWORK The Pennsylvania State Data Center (PaSDC) was established in 1981 by Executive Order of the Governor to serve as the Commonwealth’s official source of population and socio-economic statistics. The PaSDC also serves as the state’s liaison to the Census Bureau and as the representative to the Federal-State Cooperative Programs for Population Estimates and Projections.
