The Georgia Brass Band The Georgia Brass Band was founded in 1999 by a group of Atlanta-area brass players eager to explore the challeng-ing repertoire for British-style brass band. The band performed its first concert after just a few months and has main-tained an active schedule ever since. The mission of the band is twofold: the band allows talented area musicians the opportunity to hone their individual and collective skills through rehearsals and concerts, and the band introduces local concertgoers to this exciting genre of brass music. Band members are selected by audition or invitation. All members and staff volunteer their time and talents to the band. In fact, members pay annual dues to participate in the band. The band members represent a variety of profes-sions, including lawyers, doctors, salespeople, business owners, educators, students, analysts, computer profession-als, a college vice president, a real estate agent, and a pipe organ builder. The band’s repertoire is equally diverse and ranges from the Renaissance and Baroque to the 21st century. The li-brary is full of marches, sacred arrangements, popular music, jazz tunes, movie themes, classical transcriptions, and a number of challenging concert selections and contest items written specifically for brass band. The band’s versatile combination of instruments can produce a variety of tonal colors and sounds at home in nearly any style of music. The Georgia Brass Band has appeared on local television and performed at numerous schools, churches, concert halls, festivals, music camps, and colleges throughout the state. The band has also appeared with a number of re-nowned soloists, including Scott Hartman, Demondrae Thurman, Patrick Sheridan, Colin Williams, and Chris Mar-tin. In April, 2006 the band traveled to Louisville and made its first appearance in the annual North American Brass Band Association competition. The band’s performance earned it First Place in the Challenge Section and drew ac-colades and rave reviews from all present. The correspondent from 4barsrest.com, England’s leading brass band website, said “One of the highlights of the contest had to be the debut of the Georgia Brass Band. Whilst we knew they had some fine players and a good music director, we had no idea they would be as dominating as they were.” Douglas Yeo, editor of Brass Band Bridge, reported that “…the Georgia Brass Band roared into Robinson Theater with an outstanding and commanding performance…establishing itself right away as a major force in the North American brass banding world.” Future plans for the Georgia Brass Band include a commercial recording, a mentoring partnership with a new youth brass band being formed in the area, and a return visit to the brass band competition. We will also maintain our usual local performance schedule. Please visit the band’s website at www.georgiabrass.com to keep with all pertinent band information.

The Band of the US Air Force Reserve The Band of the U.S. Air Force Reserve is one of the finest musical organizations in the Southeastern United States. The band travels in excess of 100,000 miles per year performing over 500 concerts extensively throughout their primary geographic area of Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi. The band has also performed in many overseas locations to include Russia, Italy, Turkey, Portugal, Antigua, Pana-ma, Germany, Australia, and the Caribbean. The Band of the U.S. Air Force Reserve consists of sixty full time professional musicians who are assigned to perform in at least three ensembles. The two autonomous performing ensembles are the Concert Band and Reserve Generation. All members are assigned to perform in the Ceremonial and Marching Band which normally utilizes 25-40 personnel. The 43-member Concert Band is the largest and most versatile ensemble with a repertoire that in-cludes classical overtures, Sousa marches, Broadway show tunes and popular music favorites. Sub units of the Concert Band include Full Spectrum, which performs contemporary and traditional Big Band selections; the BlueNotes which is a blend of jazz and blues with a touch of latin spice; the Pipe Band which performs in authentic Scottish attire; Southern Aire which performs all styles of Celtic music; and the Brass and Wood-wind Quintets which feature a variety of chamber music literature. Reserve Generation, which operates independently from the Concert Band, is a nine member popu-lar music combo that performs primarily at festivals, high schools, and military socials. They also have a spe-cial show they perform throughout the United States specifically for fifth and sixth grade students to promote counter drug awareness called "Drug-Free." The Band of the U.S. Air Force Reserve prides itself on its American heritage and the opportunities to represent America in the international arena. In May, 1992 the band became the first foreign military band to parade through Red Square in Moscow, Russia during the Peace Victory Parade. They were also the only foreign band to perform in the fiftieth celebration of the Victory in Europe Day Parade in St. Petersburg, Russia in May of 1995. Additionally, each year the Concert Band’s Operation Seasons Greetings tour takes them to various countries through out Europe. This USO style show is geared towards overseas troops, and generally contains appearances by special guest artists. All members of the Band of the U.S. Air Force Reserve are full time professional Air Force musicians working in support of Air Force Reserve recruiting and community relations objectives.
