MESSAGE FROM YOUR VIHO PRESIDENT
A warm hello to my fellow shareholders and friends,
As you are reading this issue of our Islander, we have closed out the finishing touches of 2017, starting with Candidates’ Night and ending with our annual election. I was particularly pleased and proud with the great attendance seen when your candidates introduced themselves to you. It was very clear to me by your many numbers and the rapt attention and interest displayed by you, that the turn of the calendar year was to be very significant. I offer my sincere appreciation for the confidence you showed me personally during my tenure on the board. Obviously, I have no advance knowledge of whether I will still have a seat at the table come January 19th. But whatever the outcome, I owe you all my deep gratitude for allowing me to serve on the Board of Directors. It was another wonderful learning period for which I can be grateful.
I must also thank all fellow board members for their demonstrated willingness to serve on your Board. However, we are indebted to a few particular members I want to recognize specifically. This community should be very grateful and proud to have had an exceptional Treasurer in Marna Corbus for the past 15 years. We all benefitted from her watchful and caring eyes as we were able to grow and preserve our financial resources. We also had a gifted and very experienced Secretary, Susan Nye, who kept us
on the correct path through Robert’s Rules. I also cannot forget to mention Florence Nowocin who, in a shorter term as President, always gave her best with her special attention to research and accuracy. You are all much appreciated.
Whatever the election outcome, I urge each of you, whenever you can, to remember and accept your new Board members’ volunteer spirits in the best light. We offered our time and energy for the betterment of all. As Board members, we must take the good with the bad, deal with situations in the most fair and knowledgeable ways possible, while showing understanding and respect for each other in doing so.
We have much good in our community. Let’s let it shine!
Respectfully submitted,Loretta ScottPresident, Venice Isle Board of Directors

WE NEED YOUR COOPERATIONWe have noticed some rules infractions of late.
Some shareholders, guests, renters and vendors (handymen included) are still not checking in to the Administration Office upon arrival. Shareholders must register all their guests, and each guest is required to receive and wear a wristband at all times when out and about the park. The only exception to this rule is when the guest is in the company of the shareholder. We have had many problems with unregistered users of our facilities. Also, continuing to park on the grass is still not allowed.
Secondly, the placement of towels, beach bags, clothing, etc., cannot be used to reserve a beach chair or table at either of our pools. People come and go throughout the day, and it
is inconsiderate to other users if these amenities are not available because someone “reserved” a chair or table and is not physically present to use them until several hours later.
With the above being said, please remember that our community amenities are available for everyone’s enjoyment. Please, let’s remember our manners and be considerate of others.

EVANGELICAL COVENANT CHURCHWEB SITE: WWW.ECCVI.NET
Love one another!"A new command I give you:
Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
John 13:34-35It is early January yet it seems
magazines are covered with hearts or various shades of red and pink items – balloons, candy, cakes, flowers, etc. The magazines anticipate Valentine’s Day, a day when people exchange cards, candy, gifts or flowers with their special “valentine.”
This year Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday fall on the same day. Ash Wednesday marks the start of the season of Lent. As a Christian and as a pastor I find this a cause to pause: on Valentine’s Day we will begin our journey to the cross with Jesus.
It has been said that there are three kinds of love: brotherly love, romantic love, and obedient love. Brotherly love is about loving friends and family. Romantic love is about – well – you know, faithfully loving that one special person. Obedient love is about loving others because that is what Jesus told us to do. Jesus’ commands us to love as we have been loved. Obedient love has nothing to do with physical attraction or the lovable-ness of the other and everything to do with obedience.
According to the National Day Calendar (Yes, there is a website for that.) February’s monthly observances include: National Heart Month, National Weddings Month, An Affair to Remember Month, and Creative Romance Month.
Since Ash Wednesday and Valentine’s Day
share the same date, we could make February “National Love Your Neighbor As Yourself Month.” That would be special. National is a pretty big first step, so maybe we could start with ”Venice Isle Estates Love Your Neighbor As Yourself Month” and see what happens. We could make it our goal for the month to love others as Jesus loves us. He gave his life for us. How much, then, should we willing to love others? What would it look like? We could be kind to a prickly someone because Jesus is kind to us when we are prickly. We could be understanding of a crabby someone because Jesus is understanding when we are crabby. Get the idea? Choose to love.
Need some more help? Scripture tells us the love of obedience involves patience and kindness. It also tells us it is not envious, boastful, rude, or self-seeking. There’s more, but this is a good place to start.
Let’s do it together! They say it takes 21 days to develop a new habit. If we start on February 1 we will be well on our way to a new habit by the 14th when we recall how much Jesus loved us. Then, by the end of the month, loving others will be second nature to us.
We worship the God who loved us to the cross every Sunday at 9:20am in Clubhouse 1. We study His word on Thursdays in the Venetian Room at Clubhouse 2. Together we learn and we grow. All are always welcome.
I also invite you to “Church Night at the DQ.” On the first Monday of every month the Dairy Queen on Venice Avenue donates to the church that meets at Venice Isle a percent of ALL sales made between 4 and 7 PM. Three things to note: It is a fun social time; the DQ sells more than burgers and ice cream; it is a great way for the church to raise funds for ministry. All are always welcome to that, too.

VENICE ISLE REAL ESTATE SALES: NOTE FROM NEVILLE:
HELP, HELP, HELP!! I do not have many homes to sell and buyers are still looking. If you are thinking of selling please call me to discuss what your values have increased to. If you are looking to buy, please keep checking our web site at www.veniceisle.com. I have all the homes for sale on it within a day of listing. We always have a list of homes on the office door also. If you have any questions, we will be glad to offer our expertise in the Venice Isle real estate market. We are the number one property seller in Venice Isle and know our market inside and out.
Don’t forget Venice Isle Real Estate is your company! When Venice Isle Real Estate Sales makes a sale (buying or selling) 30% is paid to the park, keeping your maintenance fees lower. When an outside real estate company sells a home in our Park (buying or selling), none of their commission goes back to the Park. So whether you are buying OR selling, use your company to help support your Park. Our sales commission is a low 5 and 1/2% of the sale price so call me about how I can help. If you are interested in the homes we have, please stop by the office and I would love to show you around the Park.

SOUTH COUNTRY PANTRY February is a very busy month: it is the
shortest month of the year and every fourth year there is an extra day in the month calling it a Leap Year. This busy month includes Chinese New
Year, National Freedom Day, Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Days, many of our U.S. Presidents were born during this month, Ash Wednesday,
Mardi gras, Black History Month, American Heart Month,
Chocolate Lovers Month are just a few of the best. If you lived in the Southern Hemisphere February’s weather would be very summer-like sometimes as warm as our month of August. Whereas, we living in the Northern Hemisphere find this month very, very cold, windy, with lots of snow and ice depending where you live. The United States largest sporting event, the Super Bowl is held in February.
The cold weather that fills the month of February is an excellent reason to donate food to the Pantry. Families need to cook warm hearty meals so that their elementary, middle, and high school students can play outside in this cold weather with their friends, be involved in sporting games, walk to school or wait for the school buses. The food you provide the South County Pantry also feeds senior citizens, those unemployed, veterans, many homeless individuals, welfare clients, disabled and those with various types of health issues.
The types of food you purchase at grocery, discount, neighborhood businesses are the types of food items the Pantry folks eat. Take
advantage of coupons, “buy 1 get 1 free”, buy 10 for the price of $10.00 and many other ways of getting “good deals”. Personal products are also needed: combs, shampoo, conditioners, razors, toothpaste, bushes, hand cream, body lotion, soap, shaving cream, hair spray, deodorant, toilet paper, Kleenex, paper towels, laundry soap and other daily items that you like to use.
Please take your Pantry items to the Office on Roma Road. There are grey tabs for your Pantry donations. If you need your items picked up, please call Jan Lawrence at 941-488-2487. Thank you for your DONATIONS. They are helping many individuals that have less and in this type of weather can use your GRACIOUS HELP AND KINDNESS.

TAI CHITai ChiThis gentle form of exercise improves
your balance and gets you to move all your joints. You only need
good walking shoes and loose clothing and only to move as far as
is comfortable for you. We have gotten into this shape over our
lifetime, you cannot expect to change overnight; but gradually you can change the range of motion and balance. The form we do is Yang Style 24 movement Beijing Standard and most people can learn the movements in a season. Once learned they become meditative and relaxing, allowing you work on more advance internal energies and breathing.
