January 2018 THE Northwestern Page 2

Friends,

The warm spring is on the horizon. Thishas been an especially frigid winter thus far.

Northwestern continues to be the schooldistrict to follow, the district others desire to em-ulate and partner with. The success of our stu-dents is so very evident. Through theiraccomplishments and feedback the fine educa-tion and quality of our students is evident.

The accomplishments of our studentshas been fantastic. The accolades received forour educational excellence and leadership by theeducational community has been astounding. The articles within this newsletter provide evi-dence of our schools doing the great work for ourstudents. Whether it be fine arts, STEM pro-grams, core foundational courses, or extracurric-ular activities we do prepare our students todayfor tomorrow’s opportunities. More-so, we haveused collaboration, grant writing, and striving forefficiencies to pursue our mission within our fi-nancial constraints. We are driven by goals forcontinuous improvement. Our strategic plan isour road map and promotes a vision that includessuggestions for the future that include:

• Expanded, Universal Preschool is ourgoal. Our STEM Preschool is EXCELLENT andwe are striving to have two STEM Preschoolclasses for the 2018-2019SY.• Pursuit of the new Ohio STEM Learn-ing Network’s “STEAM Designation” for eachof our buildings in recognition of our extraordi-nary fine arts programs.• Continuing to provide needed supportsfor our students with disabilities and at-risk stu-dents.• Expanding gifted and talented opportu-nities and extended learning.

• Operating under a balanced budget. • Continue refining and expanding authen-tic learning through Project-based learning andSTEM, as well as our Career Pathways and CareerPlanning.• Expanded and improved Science and ca-reer pathway lab spaces – most especially at thehigh school • Updating our current Library-Media

Centers to high tech Makerspace Innovation LabMedia Centers (in line with our career and collab-orative project-based learning instructional philos-ophy). Our MS is completed with HS and ESanticipated being converted over the next 1½years.• Continue and complete the recommis-sioning and updates of our HVAC systems overthe next two years. • Completion of the HS fire suppressionsystem this summer.• Theatre lighting replacement.• Studying flexible hours, days, yearscheduling.• Adjacent land acquisition as opportuni-ties arise down the road and funds might allow.

As far as our budget, we are currently in“Fiscal Watch” status as are many, many schooldistricts in Ohio - due to inadequate state fundingthat was reduced significantly, then has essentiallybeen flat-lined for the past 7 years in spite of manyadditional state and federal mandates. This “FiscalWatch” means we are projected to spend morethan we bring in this year and in ensuing years andthat we have sufficient carry-over revenue to re-main in the black less than 3 years. We have cre-ated a budged revision and plan of action tobalance our revenue and expenditures. The rea-sons for the deficit spending stems from the majorcosts in updating and recommissioning our HVACsystems the past few years and planned for thenext two years, the timing of the emergency levythat we just started collecting this past July, majorincreases in health insurance costs, in addition toinadequate state funding, as well as bleeding fromonline charter schools (which the state allows tonot only take our state funds, but also take localfunds from us).

We will continue to pursue grants andcontributions, as well as consider reductions to

live within our means to ensure that these are af-fordable as we move forward with our mission inpreparing our students today for tomorrow’s op-portunities, as has been our practice.

Our community has so much to be grate-ful for - our families, friends, and wonderfulschool system. In our schools we have extraordi-nary teachers and support staff, wonderful admin-istrators, and wise board members. We also havenumerous support organizations which help ourmission such as Ruritans, All Sports, PTOs, MusicBoosters, Alumni & Friends, FFA Alumni, etc.Without our community of leaders working col-laboratively and exhibiting transparency we wouldnot be serving our students to the fantastic degreethat we are. This being “School Board Recogni-tion Month” I want to thank our 5 outstandingSchool Board Members for their leadership andsupport – Phil Keener, Kim Wellert, LauraWoodring, Chuck Beck, Paula Abrecht. We areblessed with the 5 amazing leaders!

I take great pride in sharing the continuedaccomplishments of our students, community, andschools. The supports and relationships through-out our community are unique. We can take greatpride in our schools and together we can continueto strive for even greater heights. With our dedi-cated administrators, staff, and community we willcontinue striving for and achieving well-beyondexpectations.

We are all about excellence and increas-ing expectations at Northwestern. Within ourNorthwestern family we will continue to focus onthe needs of our students. We will continue to pre-pare our students today for tomorrow’s opportu-nities!

I am always willing to listen to ideas, questions, and concerns from students, parents, and anyone in our community. It is only by ask-ing, sharing, and participating that we can con-tinue our important work. Please do not hesitateto contact me for any reason and “thank you” foryour ongoing support. Higher Education for Older AdultsOhio State University graduate-level Program 60 allows Ohio residents age 60 and older to

take Ohio State University classes tuition-free on a non-credit, non-degree basis. In most cases, allthey need to do is signup for Program 60 and get permission from the instructor of each class theywant to take. Courses can be taken at the OSU Wooster Campus as well as main campus or any OSUsatellite campus.

This semester, Program 60 had 336 students enrolled in courses at Ohio State and 792 reg-istered participants.

What Program 60 provides older adults is not only an opportunity for learning, but also anopportunity for building relationships and emotional satisfaction in life," said Holly Dabelko-Schoeny,professor of social work at Ohio State..

If there is anything that unites people who take Program 60 classes, it is a life-long interestin learning.

Taking classes on art, medieval history, women in cinema, astronomy, renewable energy, technology, or just about any content is available.

Many participants do not take the exams or write the papers assigned in class. But that doesn'tmean that students aren't interested in learning the material in their classes. The social work studyfound that 86 percent of Program 60 students were motivated to participate in order to develop theirknowledge.

What Program 60 participants get from taking classes goes beyond the usual advice for olderpeople to keep their mind active.

"They are able to pursue areas of interest from a huge catalog of classes at Ohio State," saysDabelko-Schoeny. "It is not just exercising your brain with crossword puzzles or Sudoku. It is aboutgrowth and development as a person."

Many participants share how much they enjoyed interacting not only with their instructors, but especially with the younger students in their classes. This inter-generational interaction is a keypart of what makes Program 60 successful. In fact, a study found that Program 60 participants thoughtthe program contributed more to expanding their social network with younger generations than withother older participants in the program. What Program 60 does is provide a unique opportunity forcross-generational relationship building.

And it is not only the older students who benefit. Younger students ask for advice about avariety of experiences from participants, including about finding jobs, interviewing, life lessons, andimproving their resume.

"Program 60 counters some of our societal stereotypes about how we stop learning and grow-ing and developing intellectually and socially as we get older," Dabelko-Schoeny says. Contact OhioState University for more information about enrolling in this unique program!

FOOD SERVICE NEWSWinter is REALLY here this year. We

have already experienced several delay days, butas a reminder to all there is NO breakfast servedat any of the schools if we have a delay. We alsohave started selling frozen yogurt from Eva’s Yo-gurt in Ashland. The cost is $2.00 per cup andcomes in a variety of flavors. The yogurt willmeet the USDA standard for healthy snacks so besure to ask you kids if they have tried it and if theylike it! Please also remember that you can applyfor free or reduced price meals any time through-out the school year. If you are approved at anytime of the year it will extend to all meals weserve, breakfast and lunch.

This school year we partnered with AWhole Community to pilot a program of farm toschool and fresh local produce. Through the ef-forts of Karen Potter from A Whole Communitywe were able to partner with Local Roots out ofWooster and had some fresh produce items deliv-ered to the district. Most of the produce was usedin some kind of dish and available to all studentsfor taste testing if they wanted. Our goal was toexpose students to a variety of vegetables that theymight not get to see or taste in their own homes.Eventually we would like to incorporate those andmore vegetables into our daily breakfast and lunchofferings and menus. As a final meeting for theyear we were treated to a visit from a chef for aninformal training session and a taste testing expe-rience for a few 4th graders. Chef Ben the exec-utive chef at “Brio Tuscan Restaurant” inColumbus at the Polaris Mall came and demon-strated how to cook fresh broccoli and then sauteit with butter and garlic. The other vegetable heshowed us how to cook was sweet potatoes. Webaked them in the oven and then removed theskins and mashed them. He just added a bit of but-ter but we decided the kids would like it betterwith some cinnamon and maybe some brownsugar! After our cooking demo the 4th gradersjoined us in the cafeteria for a taste testing. Eachgroup was given a paper to answer a few basicquestions and a small cup and spoon of the food. When the results were tallied it was decided thatthe students really liked both vegetables andwould eat them if they were cooked and served inthat way.

Karen Potter then gave the pans and bas-ket that Chef Ben used as a gift to the school dis-trict. We have not fixed the vegetables for thelunch program as of yet but we are looking aheadto future menus where broccoli and sweet potatoeswill be served using our new skills and equipment. We had a great first year experience.

HONORING OUR LOCALVETERANS

The American Legion Post 499 hostedtheir annual Veterans Banquet to honor the localVeterans of our community. "Our service organi-zation represents those who have honorablyserved our country and are still serving the com-munity, state and nation as volunteers." The din-ner was opened by Vice Commander DonaldProchazka, Jr and lead in prayer by Chaplin JonShadley. The Veterans and their guest were servedby members of the Legion and the Auxiliary.

During the meal the Northwestern HighSchool delegates from Buckeye Girls State(hosted at the University of Mount Union, June11-17, 2017) Emily Bouffard and Alyssa Top-pins,

and delegates from Buckeye Boys State (hostedat Miami University June 11-18, 2017) StevenCozzuli and Garret Dever were introduced. They each spoke about their experiences of whatleadership positions they held, what they learnedabout the government, how they related to otherdelegates, and that they continue to communicatewith other delegates today. They were each thank-ful to the Legion and the Auxiliary for allowingthem to have this opportunity.

The guest speaker of the night wasColonel Walter M. Duzzny who gave a very en-tertaining, emotional, and meaningful speechabout the military. He spoke of all the great freethings the military does for you. Some of his ex-amples where they all received the same free hair-cut, same outfits (uniforms), the free destinationslike Normandy, Korea, Quait, Afghanistan, Iraq, and so on. He also explained how one could havebecome a member of the military (volunteer ordrafted in this case), to the time one learns (freeeducation and training) that they were walking in-correctly because at boot camp they now march, and that the drill sergeant has two voices loud andlouder. He spoke of how soldiers had to leave be-hind those they loved parents, wives, and children. When a deployed soldier received mail everyonewho was around would get to hear the news aboutthe new baby on its way, the soldier going to be adaddy, and they got to view all of pictures too.Unfortunately, not all of our soldiers got to returnhome. For in this story the wife and child had tocontinue their lives without their soldier. Yearswent by and they were sitting at a table in a restau-rant. A man kept staring at them, and they had be-come very uncomfortable. The man had thecourage to address them at their table, apologized, and introduced himself. Once information hadbeen shared, this man had served in the same unitas her husband and the child's father. Thus begin-ning a conversation of memories and the child gotto hear stories of the father never known. In clos-ing Col. Duzzny ended with the words God Blessthe USA!! Thank you to all of our veterans whoserved and are still serving. You are not forgottenand we the Legion support you now and forever-more. Have a safe and blessed Veterans Day. GodBless America!Respectfully Submitted, Jennifer Smith-Bowers American Legion Auxiliary Post 499Buckeye Girls State, Committee Chair

The role of the Tech Team is to help in anyway we are needed. Each student has a workday dur-ing their extra help period and the eighth grade mem-bers teach the seventh and sixth graders during thistime. The eight graders are a dedicated and helpfulgroup. Each class acts as mentors to their youngercounterparts. A service we provide for the school issetting up microphones and monitor the sound systemfor assemblies and the talent show. The Tech Teamvideos assemblies and works the sound and lightboard for eighth grade promotion. Members also as-sist teachers with technology problems, support staffwith computer set-up for standardized tests, and lenda hand to students with software problems. Sixthgrade Tech Team members are in charge of puttingthe day's announcements on the TV system in thecafeteria, which provides students the opportunityread the announcements. Eighth grade Tech Teammember, Dominic Wallace is the voice of Northwest-ern Middle School. Dom faithfully reads the daily an-nouncements to the school over the public addresssystem.

Along with our daily activities, we havebeen fortunate to help this year by setting-up and pro-viding video recording services during our school'sVeteran's Day assembly, and finally, editing the videoof the assembly and making DVDs of the footage.

Mr. Mike Burkholder

NorthwesternHigh School

Principal

Hello from Northwestern High School,As time rolls on, we can be assured that

winter will gave way to spring – bringing with itthe spring assessment season. We have nowphased out the Ohio Graduation Test. Our seniorsare the first class to utilize End of Course testsas their graduation standard. Our students will betaking End of Course tests if they are enrolled inany of the following classes: English 9, English10, Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, American His-tory and Government. The end of course testswill be in April. Students will take these assess-ments and need to accumulate at least 18 pointsacross these tests, as a graduation requirement. There will be retest opportunities, where neces-sary. We are looking at our options and we willrelease a test schedule once we have finalized theplans. We will meet the requirements, but keepour focus on educating our children to the verybest of our ability rather than focus on the assess-ment.

We are very proud of the body of workcompleted by our students in senior seminar, in-ternships and capstone classes. Thank you to allcommunity members who took the time to serveas mentors or to sit on the panel during presen-tations. It is a huge endeavor, but is very worth-while

We have many students who are partic-ipating in the College Credit Plus program. Forthe 2017-18 school year we had an increase inthe number of students that are taking all of theircoursework on the college campuses. While werespect each student’s right to make decisions ontheir educational opportunities we would like toput in a plug for accumulating college creditswithout leaving the Northwestern campus. Weare shifting to allow the majority of our CCPclasses to mimic the college offerings and for-mat.

We will have offerings in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Business, Music and AgriculturalScience. Please contact me or our guidance office to learn more about these opportunities. We aretrying to create a scenario where our students can have the best of both worlds and not have to sacri-fice time and money traveling to the campuses or sacrifice the social experience of the final years inhigh school.

It is the time of year that we begin planning for the coming year and will be starting thescheduling process for returning students. We have scheduled a meeting to help with this process onTuesday March 6th at 6:00 p.m. The 2017 – 2018 course selection books will be available on-line. Asexpected, our curriculum is always evolving. We have some new course offerings in our Math, Eng-lish, and Social Studies. A capstone course in the clean energy pathway will be added and we will bereleasing the third class in the computer science pathway. We will also be working to launch ateacher education pathway. Please contact us with any questions you may have, relative to yourchild’s academic selections.

We have had many exciting things going on at the high school. . The music and visual artsprograms have continued to perform well. Many community members have had the pleasure of lis-tening to their concert performances and seeing their displayed work. We have participated in theOne Act Play Festival. Our winter sports teams have worked hard and have given their best efforts.

A reminder to all community members; thanks to the generosity of the Northwestern All-Sports Association and Northwestern High School Physical Education classes now has a well-equipped fitness room. The fitness room is equipped with 2 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, upright bikes &recumbent bikes. The fitness room is located on the Northwest Corner of the High School in Room400. The room is available to members of the Northwestern Community from 4:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.on days that the high school is in session. Northwestern Middle School students may use the equip-ment if accompanied by an adult. For safety reasons, we cannot allow children 11 or younger to usethe equipment. Access to the fitness room may vary with the season, and the school calendar. Community members have access to the track during daylight hours. Please restrict your use to theoutside four lanes to reduce the wear on the inner lanes, which have more use during athletic events. The free weight facility in the community building is also available to community members, with re-strictions. During the school day it can be accessed by signing in and getting a key from the board of-fice. If we have a physical education class using the facility, they have priority. These classes aretypically scheduled from 7:20 to 9:32. After school hours the weight room is generally utilized byathletic teams, making the facility unavailable. If the board office is closed and the athletic teamshave finished their practices, access to the weight room may be achieved through a coach or North-western staff member who has a key, but they must be on the premises with you as a supervisor. These tightened restrictions are a result of trying to be good members of the community while bal-ancing issues related to safety and liability.

We have so many people that invest so much for our students and children. Thank you foryour continued support as we continue the work of “Preparing our Students Today for Tomorrow’sOpportunities”.

Message from Mr. Brightbill:I hope this message finds everyone

warm, safe and off to a great start to 2018! Ourstaff and students have been working extremelyhard to finish up the second quarter and begin thenew academic semester.

To enhance our student’s skills to be-come more college and career ready, our 8th gradestudents participated in a “Career Day” on January11, 2018. Area professionals came to Northwest-ern Middle School to conduct mock interviewsand listen to student presentations about their “JobShadow Internship” students completed this year.It is much appreciated that so many local profes-sionals came in to work and share their knowledgewith our students.

The NMS library is currently getting up-dated as we continue to enhance our building toimplement more 21st Century Skills. The librarywill be complete with new furniture and chairs thathave the ability to move and fit together in “Pods”so that students can work independently or ingroups. Along with furniture, we have installednew carpet and changed the color scheme withpaint and fabric. There will be a “MakerSpace”area designated in the library so staff and studentscan utilize STEM related projects and resourcesfor more hands on learning. I have added a fewpictures to the article to capture the look of the li-brary. I want to make sure to thank our custodialand maintenance staff for their hard work puttingthe library together over Christmas Break.

We have begun the process of looking atour master schedule for next school year. Eachyear we gather input from staff and students to re-view courses, curriculum and schedules to imple-ment or change for the next year. Academicscheduling for 2018-2019 for students will beginsometime in February.

Students will learn about courses from the middleschool and high school staff and have the oppor-tunity to view course selection books before se-lecting their classes. We are proud of our careerand academic pathway courses we offer here atNorthwestern Middle School and we continue toreview to enhance our current course options. State testing will begin at the end of March andfinish early May. As the dates get closer, moretesting information will be communicated withstudents and parents. You can view and help pre-pare your son or daughter for the tests athttp://oh.portal.airast.org/ocba/students-and-fam-ilies/.

As always, we value community input, thoughts and ideas. Thank you for your continuedsupport for Northwestern Middle School. Best WishesMr. Joey BrightbillNMS Principal

NMS CAREER FAIROn Thursday, January 11, students in

Mrs. St. Clair’s English classes participated intheir very first Career Fair. Unlike other careerfairs where area professionals come to the schoolto share their expertise with students, the stu-dents, in this case, were the ones presenting thecareer information. Each student participated intwo separate events during the morning, whichinvolved Job Shadow presentations and StudentMock Interviews.

The Career Fair was developed to allowstudents the opportunity to share their career ex-pertise with area professionals. The presentationsegment of the morning involved students pre-senting their Job Shadow project to their peers,a teacher, and a professional who had experiencein that area/field. Student presentations were de-signed to share both research information, aswell as, their observations during their jobshadow experience, where students are given aday from school to work within their field or togo on a field trip. Students were required to havea prepared presentation to share with the groupthat accurately described the career that theychose. Students also fielded questions from theadults at the end of their presentation.

“I would hire you tomorrow,” wasamong the comments students heard during themock interview process, which was the secondpart of the morning. Participating in this seg-ment, students were interviewed individually byone of multiple area professionals who volun-teered.

Students rotated through the gym in themorning, visiting different tables and profession-als. Throughout their session, students receivedboth verbal and written feedback on their per-formance. Each volunteer was instructed tocoach students on their interview skills, allowingfor students to practice and understand the skillsnecessary for a successful interview.

The comments about the Career Fair was overwhelmingly positive from students, staff, andthe professionals who volunteered to help. By the end of the morning, most students were able to speakwith multiple adults and professionals, which allowed for both student practice and valuable feedback.By allowing students to practice both their presentation and interview skills, students were able to learnfrom professionals about the expectations in today’s job market, helping them to better prepare forfuture opportunities. The Career Fair is one of the many ways that NMS continues to strive to meetour district mission statement- “preparing students today for tomorrow’s opportunities!”

Cookies and Canvas Night…A FUNdraiser! The first cookies and canvas night was a huge success! The Northwestern art teachers would

like to give their thanks to the talented community for participating, volunteers who helped out duringthe event, and all of FCS for baking the cookies! All of the money raised will be going towards theart clubs and the art programs as a whole. We plan on holding more Cookies and Canvas events inthe fall, winter, and spring of next school year!

Northwestern Elementary has been offand running with the New Year. The first semesterof the 2017-2018 school year was very busy!Teachers and students are enjoying the new tech-nology in the classrooms and library. The Mak-erspace projects have been amazing and thestudents have been extremely excited to partici-pate in them. The students are starting to gear upfor Science Fair. Please join us for Family ScienceFair Night on February 21st from 5:00pm-7:00pm. The Science Fair projects will be dis-played in the hallway.

Parents continued support of ourfundraisers has been so gracious. Our PTO isthriving again which allows for added resourcesin the classrooms, and wonderful assemblies thatour students enjoy so much and that have en-riched our school. One assembly that we will beable to bring back is COSI on Wheels. This wasdiscussed at the PTO meeting that was held onJanuary 16. Please feel free to join us the fourthTuesday of each month at 4:00pm in the Library. We are always looking for feedback, new pro-grams and volunteers to help with the events wehave at our school. These events include BookFair, Santa Shop, Grandparents Day and FUNFAIR which will be taking place April 20th.

Northwestern Elementary and North-western High School are teaming together withANAZAO Community partners to create a Youth-led Mentoring Program called “Husky Buddies”.Husky Buddies uses a peer mentoring approachwith high school student leaders being trained towork with elementary students.

The high school students provide en-couragement, friendship and role modeling.

Participation in the Husky Buddy program is vol-untary for the elementary and high school stu-dents. It is overseen by school student servicesstaff and building principals. A big Thank You toDawn Wiles, Steve McCumber, Mike Burkholderand Anazao for helping develop the program.

Working Together CornerStudent Success depends heavily on

school and home working together. The word“MINDSET” and “DETERMINATION” arewords used often at NES. Students need to hearthese words from parents and staff in relation tomaking an effort, working hard, never giving up,and planning ahead are all important. We need toencourage students to set reasonable expectations, and celebrate with them when they make progresstoward their goal. In general, a growth mindset isthe belief that intelligence and ‘smartness’ can alsobe learned and that the brain grows from experi-ence and effort. The opposite, a fixed mindset, isthe idea that you are smart, or you are not. In mathfor example, that translates into “some people aregood at math and some are not.” Did you knowthat praising efforts, rather than intelligence or re-sults, can impact a child’s ability to persevere inchallenges?! The goal is to have children thrive onchallenges and see failures, not as a sign of lowintelligence, but as a learning opportunity. That iswhere “The Power of YET” comes into play! Forexample, “I may not understand this math problemyet!” Brain research tells us that making mistakesactually wires more connections into the brain. When a person has a growth mindset, they acceptchallenges, see their efforts as worthwhile, and areopen to learning from mistakes. How can we allhelp? Here are some simple ways through conver-sations that take place at home and the school en-vironment.

• Adding “yet” when they claim they are“not good at this” • Respond: You are not good at it “yet.”

• Ask questions that focus on their effortand choices and get them to reflect on satisfactionof that effort (What did you learn today? Whatmistakes did you make that taught you some-thing? What did you try hard at today?)

Thomas Edison said that he did not failat making the light bulb one thousand times, butrather that "the light bulb was an invention with1,000 steps.""I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career.I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times I've beentrusted to take the game winning shot... andmissed. I've failed over and over and over againin my life. That is why I succeed." (Michael Jor-dan)

**** Northwestern High School GUIDANCE NOTES******** Northwestern High School GUIDANCE NOTES****It’s always hard to believe when we’re midway through the year and already gearing up for next year. Scheduling presentations to students to re-

ceive information about selecting classes for next year will take place in February. I hope you’ll be able to attend the annual parent scheduling meeting tohear about course options for next year and all the options we are able to offer our students; details on the meeting will coming on daily announcements. I am proud of the work our seniors have been doing on college applications and career planning through the Naviance system. Almost 50% of our seniorshave submitted college applications to 2-year and 4-year schools, with most students applying to at least 3 colleges. Scholarship announcements areadded on Naviance as information is received. Through Senior Seminar, Internships, Apprenticeships, and our Senior Capstone classes, seniors are alsoreceiving practical, hands-on career training and learning valuable real-world skills that employers are seeking.

Please be sure to check out the Guidance site for exciting Summer Opportunities for students including internships, camps, etc. Congratulations to our 8 sophomores and juniors who self-selected to take the PSAT in October. All 8 students performed above the 50th per-

centile compared to all other students nationwide who tested. We also have four students who scored at 90th percentile or above: Claire Bond, CortneyHoff, Katie Koontz, and Olivia Wakefield. Katie and Olivia scored in the top 1% of all juniors in the country, and we are looking forward to see if theyadvance in the National Merit Scholarship selection process. A few reminders for upcoming dates/events of things happening at the high school:• February 27: Juniors will take the state ACT at the high school. This is offered at no cost to families and students do NOT register online for thisparticular test only.• March 9: Regular deadline to register for the national April 14th ACT. Students must register themselves online at www.act.org. This is an im-portant test for any student interested in College Credit Plus (CCP) next year if they have not already taken the ACT and received a qualifying score. • April 1: Any student interested in CCP for next year must have returned a completed “CCP Intent Form” to the Guidance Office. See guidanceor download the form from the Guidance website.
