The artistic setting of the labyrinth around the tabernacle and the outgoing steps from the Word of God in the Philosophate Chapel express the quintessential Markan Christian or Missionary vocation: To be with him and to be sent out (Mk 3:14). The Labyrinth is the classic symbol from ancients times: all paths and alleys lead you to the Centre - God. The tabernacle says it all. But that power of God leads you to go out to all nations proclaiming the WORD - Jesus. To be Chriist centred is to be other centred - missionary. The creator is our Vicar General ,Fr. THE WONDER OF THE RELICS BROUGHT TO PILAR

10TH JANUARY 1939(89TH DEATH ANNIVERSARY OF VEN. FR. AGNELO)

thFr. Agnelo died on 20 January 1927 at Rachol Seminary and was buried the following day at the Rachol parish cemetery. People began to flock at his grave with their petitions. His intercessory power began to spread far and wide. A great number of people suggested that his relics be taken to Pilar, for that is the place where he belonged to as a Religious-Missionary Priest.

“Fr. Agnelo could no longer be forgotten. The time fixed by the Providence to exhume the concealed diamond had come to irradiate it salutary rays on humanity. The Monastery of Pilar was his place of predilection, the testing place where he had grown in sanctity, the sanctuary in which he totally and integrally consecrated himself to the service and glory of his King and Master Jesus. It was there, in that haven of peace and solitude that he had to rest definitively. After having the necessary permissions of the competent authorities the day was fixed for January 10th 1939 at 4 o'clock.” (Cf. Msgr. Jeronimo Freitas oc. Pg 61)

With the transfer of the Relics to Pilar, a new era was to begin for the Church in India. That same year, on 2nd July 1939 the re-organization of the Missionary Society of St. Francis Xavier took place. The veneration of the bones of him who had predicted that the Society would

not die saying “the finger of God is there in the Society”, had given rebirth to the dying Society. This is the wonder of the Relics being translocated (translatio) to Pilar and placed in the Tomb at Pilar Monastery. From then onwards, the Society began to grow in numbers and in the apostolate, spreading in India and abroad.

“There is nothing better than being a saint; even the bones of the saints are venerated”Ven. Fr. Agnelo
