FROM THE DON’S DESK
Hello and a warm welcome to all new residents and relatives of Jindalee Aged Care Residence.
Welcome to our many new staff, including two new staff in management: Sakib Chawdhury, the payroll officer and Anju Thakur, the Clinical Nurse Consultant for the Northern end of Jindalee, Casuarina, Diosma, Frangipani, Hoya & Jarrah.
Thank you all for the patience during our two periods of outbreak of infection. It has been a trying time for all and we hope that it is soon over and long gone. As a reminder, please do not come to visit loved ones residing in Jindalee if you are at all unwell.
We’ve had a very cold dry winter and I am sure that we are all looking forward to spring with warmer weather and the deciduous trees bursting into life. Canberra is a beautiful place to live in the springtime.
Kind Regards,
Jo, Pam & Chris (Director & Deputy Directors of Nursing)

HEALTH & LEISURE REPORT
Kind Regards,

Welcome to this Spring edition of our newsletter.
It is certainly lovely to feel the warm sun returning. In Canberra Spring means
Floriade, and we have tours planned on the 18th and 26th September. Please
remember to let a Health and Leisure staff member if you wish to have your name
on the Floriade list, as there are limited places and it is a very popular outing.
A little further afield, we will be venturing south to Cooma in October for one of
our restaurant outings. You will find details about this trip on page 21.
Another exciting event which occurs during October is the YMCA Seniors
'Carnival. In the lead up to the day, we will be having a number of University of
Canberra students attend on a weekly basis to help us to train for the big event.
Many activities have been occurring on the wings during this period when large
group activities have to be cancelled due to illnesses. Bingo, reading groups,
knitting groups and movies are some to the ways the residents have been enjoying
their time.
We hope you enjoy our review of Cruise Week, which was a lot of fun.

Cruise Week
This year we were destined to experience visiting the USA, including Las Vegas, Disneyland, San Francisco and crossing the border to Mexico for an excursion to San Curro Restaurant.
To start of the event we had a Sail Away Party was held on Monday 16th July.
John on the Guitar helped us to get into the party mood as we sailed away.
MONTHS IN REVIEW
Page 5
Food opportunities are always abundant on our cruise, and we enjoyed
cocktails and canopies at Tuesday’s slide show and Captain’s Cocktail Party.

On Wednesday afternoon we headed off to Las Vegas and enjoyed an afternoon of Casino Games. There were lots of laughs and residents and staff all joined in the fun.
We even had a visit from Elvis, which was a highlight of the cruise week activities
for many of the residents.
Page 9
Page 10
Thursday we visited Disneyland for a special morning tea. Tinkerbell and
Mickey Mouse were available for photo opportunities and the Mickey Mouse
inspired morning tea was delicious.
Page 11
Page 12
Big Cruise Bingo was held on Thursday afternoon and was well attended, with residents getting quite competitive.
Mickey Mouse was able to join us for a short time but was not able to win a prize.
Better luck next time Mickey.

Page 14
To finish off the week as we were Sailing back to Australia on Friday we held a Rock and Roll Party, complete with Jukebox and Karaoke for Happy Hour.
More great food was enjoyed and lots of energy was used up on the dance floor.
Some awards were also presented at this occasion.
Overall, the general comment was that the cruise week was a great success.

Christmas in July Lunch
The Canberra Seniors’ Lunch during July was held at the Dickson Tradies Club, where the theme for the outing was Christmas in July.
Those who attended commented on the beautiful food and atmosphere of the dinner and the photos really illustrate this.

PRAISE AND COMPLAINTS
BY
RESIDENTS OR THEIR RELATIVES
At Jindalee Aged Care Residence, we aim to provide the highest quality of care to our
residents. To assist us to continually improve our service, we welcome feedback and
suggestions for improvement from residents and their relatives. Suggestions are considered
by the staff at the Resident’s Care Committee Meeting where they are discussed. We
investigate all complaints and aim to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
Praise and concerns can be informal or formal, and anonymous if that is your desire.
Most issues can be dealt with informally. If you have an issue please ask to speak to the
person in charge of the wing. The issue may easily be dealt with in a simple conversation.
Jindalee has a Praise and Complaint Form that is available, providing a more formal method of
offering praise or concern. There is an option of remaining anonymous however it is difficult to
give feedback if we do not know who is raising the concern.
Once a Praise and Complaint Form has been completed, it can be handed to the nurse,
placed in the suggestion box in the foyer or posted to Jindalee.
The Director of Nursing (DON) or delegates review all the forms. They investigate the cause
of the concern, with a focus on whether Jindalee’s Policy and Procedures are contributing
factors and takes appropriate action to rectify any issues. Feedback is then available to the
complainant (if not anonymous).
All completed forms are kept in a folder in the Educator’s Office.
External support groups can also offer assistance
