SRC Update—Win a Backpack Raffle, Week 9 The SRC would like to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who has donated to the Pack a Backpack Day to be held in Week 9 of this term. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of many people. Please remember that donations can still be brought to 7KR, 3BS or the Chapel. Please refer to the list at the back of the Weekly or posters around school for ideas of what can be donated. Remember, every little bit helps. Please donate and help us make this an awesome SRC event. BACKPACK RAFFLE As part of our Pack a Backpack initiative we are also holding a Backpack raffle where children could win one of 2 Crumpler Squid backpacks. Raffle tickets have already been sent home with children. All children have to do to enter this raffle is share information about Backpacks 4 SA Kids with someone they know. This person must not be a student of SPW. Completed tickets can be placed in the box outside the ELC, or Front Office at school. WHAT INFORMATION CAN BE SHARED? In South Australia, over 2500 children between the ages of newborn to 17, live in ‘out of home’ foster care and other emergency shelters. Imagine the stress and anxiety a child endures as they are taken away from their home… no belongings, no comforts and no home. The backpacks provide by Backpacks 4 SA Kids help to relieve some of the uncertainty children face when they are removed from their family, often in traumatic situations and without the opportunity to take any personal belongings along with them. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Kerry Ramsay on [email protected] or Barbara Saunderson on [email protected] Thank you for supporting the SRC in their work for Backpacks 4 SA Kids. Primary Mathematics Association (PMA) Mathematics Challenge 2016 The PMA Mathematics Challenge is back for 2016. The Mathematics Challenge is part of events organised by the Learner Activities Sub-Committee of the PMA with the aims of: Promoting mathematics and numeracy in school and preschool communities

around South Australia; To further develop students’ appreciation of the scope of mathematics and

numeracy and their creative thinking skills; To address the goals and challenges of the Government’s B-12 Numeracy and

Literacy Strategy including ‘Great Start – Strong Foundations – Powerful Learners’.

This Challenge is designed so that all learners have the opportunity to participate at a school level and it can provide a focus for mathematics and numeracy celebrations.

The Maths Challenge is open to all students from Foundation to Year 7. However, as this is an extra-curricular activity, there will be limited opportunity for students to work on their investigations during class and set homework time. This means that students will need to be ‘self-directed’ in their project and will need to spend extra time working on it at home. Students are encouraged to come to The Hub on Thursdays at lunch for any assistance. For more information, please speak to your child’s teacher, Tassie Mangos or Angela Doan to collect a consent form which includes more information. You could also refer to the PMA website:www.primarymathematicssa.com. Interest needs to be registered by Friday 29 July.
