IntroductionThisleafletisforyoungpeopleinAycliffeSecureCentreorKyloeHouse Secure Children’s Home. It explains what the Kolvin Service does.

What is the Kolvin Service?The Kolvin Service is an adolescent forensic mental health team.Weworkwithyoungpeoplewithmentalhealthdifficulties,offendingbehaviour,orwhomaybearisktothemselvesorothers.

Who are we?Wehavedifferentteammemberswhoworktogethertohelpchildrenandyoungpeoplewhoarehavingproblemswiththeirbehaviour, emotional wellbeing or mental health.

The team consists of:

Nurses -Usuallythefirstpersonfromourteamyouwillmeet,theymaymakeareferraltoanotherteammemberorprovideinterventions themselves.

Psychologists-Specialistwhowillhelpyoutounderstandthoughts, feelings and behaviour and work to improve them.

Psychiatrists - A doctor who diagnoses mental health problems andmayaskyoutotakemedication.

Occupational Therapists -Willworkwithyoutoimproveyourdailylivingskills.

Speech and Language Therapists - Provide support in improving communication.

What will happen when I meet the Kolvin Service?Thefirstpersonyoumeetwillbeanurse.Thiswillbewithinthreeworkingdaysofyourarrival.

The nurse will complete a Comprehensive Health Assessment Tool or “CHAT”. This is a screening assessment that helps us to understandyourneeds.Youwillbeaskedquestionsabouthowyoufeelandhowyoucommunicate.

Youmightbereferredtoseeanothermemberoftheteamtohelp.

Thenursesmaycometovisitthroughoutyourstaytoofferyousupport.

Where will I be seen?Mostyoungpeoplemeetwithteammembersintheunitwhereyoulive.Youcanchoosetohaveamemberofresidentialstaffwithyou.

InterpretersIfyouwouldlikeaninterpreter,thiscanbearrangedpriortoyourappointment.

ConfidentialityTheinformationyougivewillbeusedtoinformyourcare.Thismeansitmaybesharedordiscussedwithstaffwhoworkwithyou.Wemightalsoshareinformationwithotherpeopleinvolvedinyourcare.Wewillaskyouifthereisanyoneyoudonotwantus to share information with.

Ifwethinkthatyouorsomeoneelsemightbeatrisk,wewillhave to tell someone, like the Police or Social Services. We will talktoyouaboutthisfirst.

AvailabilityTheKolvinServiceworkMonday-Fridayfrom9amto5pm.Ifyouneedtospeaktous,pleaseaskresidentialstafftocontactus.

Wearenotanemergencyservice.Ifthereisanemergencyoutsideofworkinghours,yourresidentialworkerwillcontactthelocalChildrenandYoungPeople’sServiceforsupport.

Problems, complaints or suggestionsCumbria,Northumberland,TyneandWearNHSFoundationTrusthasacomplaint’spolicy.Pleaseaskresidentialstaff,youradvocate,oranymemberoftheKolvinServiceifyouwouldlikeafeedback form.
