OUR FIRST WEEK

We went to Mr. Gillespie’s office and showed lots of respect by sitting quietly and paying attention. He told us a story about the Eraserheads and he told us “If we make mistakes we can learn from our mistakes. If we don’t make any mistakes we aren’t learning.” So in Grade 3 we are going to make mistakes… and learn from them!

Mr. Gillespie learned our names but kept forgetting some of our names …but he learned from his mistakes and knows almost all of our names 100%. He told us about student council. There will be two representatives from our class for the first half of the year and two more for the second half of the year. We are going to do share our attributes that make us good choices for student council. Our classroom community will select our representatives.

We learned how to use the Macbook laptops properly:

1. When you close the laptops you close them slowly because they have magnets. If you close them hard the sticking out parts will crack the edges.

2. To get the computer out, we don’t yank the charger out because it might break the wire. You push it to the side.

3. We always use the same computer that we used the first time.

We had to hug the computers so they wouldn’t

slip out of our hands and break. Look at how I am

hugging (showing the love) to this computer! I am

number 10.

We are going to become expert typers (hopefully). We did exercise 1 and 2, making sure that we used the home row keys and correct fingers. The more practice, the faster we got!

I wrote 24 words per

minute and made

no mistakes!

For our first literacy session, the Kung-Fu Kids selected books they wanted in our classroom library. We went to the library and met our new ES librarian Ms. Pat who told us the in and outs of using the library. We get to take 4 books this year!

Literacy: Reading

First we chose books from the library for our class library. Then we organized the books so that we would know where to find everything.

We piled the books into groups. At first it was hard but then it got really easy. We grouped them into dinosaurs, boy books, girl books, animal books, funny books and more.

Our library is organized and ready to use. As year continues we will keep adding books we are interested in to our collection.
