The city of Midlothian’s Water Treatment Plant No. 2 tour

was a huge success with 74 attendees visiting the new facil-

ity. Mike Adams, director of engineering, provided a brief

history of the project and the city’s need to increase water

treatment capabilities. Ben Wilson, plant manager, started

the presentation with the background of the water treat-

ment plants owned and operated by the city and explained

the treatment process at the new plant. Bryant Caswell of

Schrickel, Rollins & Associates, Inc. and Ray Longoria of

Freese and Nichols gave the perspective of the project from

the design and project delivery side. This project was deliv-

ered via CMAR in two phases spanning over four years

from pre-design to construction.

Attendees enjoyed delicious BBQ prior to the tour. Then, groups of approximately 15 people were led by plant op-

erators throughout the new facilities, walking through the various treatment processes, including supporting infra-

structure, such as the training and control rooms, chemical generation and feed facilities, the high service pump

station and ground storage tanks. Thank you to our sponsors for making this WTP Tour possible!

Bechtel Pipeline Engineering AwardBechtel Pipeline Engineering Award

TRWD Director of Engineering Services David Marshall, P.E. has been named the recipient of the Stephen D. Bechtel Pipeline Engineering Award by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Marshall, who will receive the award in August at the ASCE Pipeline Conference in Portland, is being hon-ored for his work on the Integrated Pipeline Project (IPL) currently being built by TRWD in conjunction with the city of Dallas. The 150-mile water transmis-sion system will eventually provide raw water to meet the water demands of approximately two million people in the rapidly growing DFW area.

ASCE cited Marshall’s “exemplary leadership in the planning and research, design, construction and operation, and maintenance of water transmission pipeline systems” in a recent release an-nouncing the prestigious award.

A registered professional engineer in Texas with over 34 years experience in water resources, includ-ing 25 years at TRWD, Marshall previously worked for the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Geologi-cal Survey.
