CHRISTCHURCH BRANCH COMMUNITY CAMP

Trevor and Linda Perry, and their four wonderfulKiwi grandchildren, plus other welcome guests, joined us for a full on fun weekend at Waiparafor our Annual Community Camp. As is ourpattern, the Camp was structured to give themany, many children a vigorous and enjoyabletime. Around seventy enjoyed the weekend andthe varied activities, ranging from water slides,to river hole swimming, to trail bike riding, tofootball, to flying fox riding, to…

BUILDING GENERATIONAL AND COMMUNITY MEMORIES

Veronica has always valued our doingthings which ‘build generational memories.’Although she was initially concerned whenour grandchildren, Clarice and Nathaniel, took an interest in ‘going into the mountains’with me she is now a bit more relaxed. AsKirsten had already pointed out, I am acautious person at the best of times, andwould be doubly so with Clarice and Natclimbing with me.

Early in February a one day window openedto take Brian LaLonde [Servants of theWord] and Nat up into the mountains and track up the Otira Valley to the amphitheatreregion. I took this opportunity it as for near six months I have been struggling again witha recurring foot injury which has made a return to the high ridges somewhat problematic.

Conditions in the mountains were pretty good and wemade good time into the valley and to the amphitheatrein less than two hours. Following a brief rest and lunchwe headed higher ‘to do some exploring’, and thenhigher, and yep- higher. We ended up exploring analternative route to the summit of Mt Rolleston which Ihad intended in November 2010 as a guided ice climb, eventually thwarted by surgery. We reached the top ofthe massive Goldney Ridge. Conditions up there werecertainly not conducive to attempt the final ridge as therock was ice shattered and loose. So down we came. The climb itself took seven and a half hours from routestart to finish. I was delighted with how my body camethrough as major surgery was just fourteen months ago.I suffered no chest and breathing difficulties, just soremuscles in my legs, especially, and as is usual for me,on the way down.

Best of all was the brotherhood, being up there with Brian [what a fine brother] and withNathaniel, renamed Nate by Brian. Indeed some very special generational memories. And being away from the cities, we can but wonder at the awesome beauty of God’screation.

CHRISTCHURCH BIG EARTHQUAKE ONE YEAR ON…

The photograph only gives a little insight. Itwas powerful and horrendous, took manylives, devastated our city and thousands ofhomes, raised downtown, took out most all ofthe major churches, raised river beds, sunkand subsided much of the eastern suburbs, and will cost the city and nation billions andbillions of dollars. And Christchurch, the placeGod raised our community, changed forever.

But there will be things God will bring forthfrom this destruction. After all, He allowed it. His hand did not withhold it. Personally Ihave felt vulnerable in new ways, in scary ways. We have been significantly strippedfinancially. Plans we had are no longer possible. Dreams we were thinking of are nolonger practical.

But ever so slowly, and vulnerably, I find I am starting to understand the things God isopening up in opportunity and in service. I can see it there and as I hopefully gain inenergy and restoration of zeal, I pray I will respond into these new realities. The Lamb ofGod Christchurch Branch has much to do, much to be grateful for, and so much toembrace in the rebuilding of this city which carries the name of the Lord.

Count me in Lord. Roger

LAMB OF GOD – AUCKLAND BRANCH

Meetings:After a summer break of two months the East and West Branches of Auckland met fortheir first GCG meeting at Kelston, Auckland on 12 February. Everyone returnedrefreshed, excited to meet up with others and enthusiastic to resume the regularmeetings.

On 11 February, the Elders and all house group leaders met at the Epsom Church Hallfor a time of praise and worship, a group discussion and fellowship. The theme for 2012is ‘Serving the Lord and those entrusted to us in a Spirit of Joyousness’. The groupdiscussion brought out some good ideas on how to achieve this goal and these wereshared with all members. This was followed by the Lord’s Day Celebration and a sharedmeal. It concluded with a game of relaxation and laughs!!

Special Occasions:In January two couples celebrated their 25thwedding anniversaries and invited all members tojoin in their celebrations. Ashlyn and FeliciaFernandes celebrated at the Tyburn Monasterywith Mass, followed by tea and snacks and Eliasand Priscilla Martis celebrated at the Church ofChrist the King with Mass, followed by tea andsnacks. Here are photographs of the two happycouples.

Summer Outings:This summer has not been a particularly typical summer. So when the Sunday for theDevonport trip rolled up we were really happy to go because it was a beautiful sunnyday. The beach was lovely and there were several people on the grass having picnicswith their families. A few LOG families soaked in the sun...while a few decided to go fora walk. The children had a few games with the rugby ball... the sisters chatted about theholidays and the brothers exchanged notes...Everyone passed around nibbles, fruit, lollies and some of us had ice creams. [Shalini]

Despite the picnic to Cornwall Park being cancelled due to weather conditions, nearly 30members turned up for an enjoyable afternoon! For the few of us who arrived initially, itprovided an opportunity to explore and discover parts of the park that we never knewexisted. We went on a leisurely walk through a Kauri grove and then through aEucalyptus groove, up the Kauri Steps and then on to the Memorial steps, where thereis a beautiful flower bed and a plaque commemorating the gifting of the park by Sir JohnCampbell to the city of Auckland. Seeing the huge trees, the expansive and well mowedlawns.... the song "Our God is an awesome God" came to mind. Soon our numbersswelled and with the weather holding up, it turned out to be an evening of fun andfellowship. For the young and fit, it was a game of frisbee followed by some touch rugby.

Parakai Pools: The drive to Parakai on the newly opened motorway was a delight andtruly enjoyable. The facilities included outdoor pools, indoor heated pools, a huge waterslide, barbecue…..there was something for everyone. One 'elder'(ly) member thought helost more weight spending 45 minutes in the hot pools doing nothing, than what his wifehas lost in all the months at her Zumba class!!!! A lucky few even received a muchappreciated body and foot massage. And then it was a game of touch rugby until leavingtime. Yes the experience was enjoyable but the true highlight was the fellowship sharedby all present. Praise God for another wonderful outing.

Youth:The Auckland Branch is pleased to reportthat one of our youth, Ben D’Souza, hasdecided to go to the Catholic DiscipleshipCollege this year. At our GCG on the 12th,Greg Hall presented him with a cheque of$1000 from the Community to help fund thecosts of the course. Mark and ElizabethStolten, who have mentored Ben, came upto the podium and Mark said a few words. The Auckland Branch is encouraging itsyouth to consider taking a gap year at theend of Uni to do further spiritual formation,or visit other communities overseas tobroaden their horizons and help them to better integrate with Community concepts. Wewish Ben all the best for the year ahead.

WELLINGTON’S FIRST LAMB OF GOD GATHERING IN 2012

Times come and go, and just like that: it is 2012!

2011 was another fruitful and much-celebrated year for all of us and we have so muchblessings to be thankful for - THANK YOU, LORD! Yes, it has gone but sure left us withpriceless memories that warmed not only our hearts and minds but our bellies as well…

For this year, we move on and continue to strengthen our personal relationship with Godand build lasting memories among ourselves as we look forward to another sunny-brightand promising 2012 for Lamb of God!

What better way to start the year than to celebrate our first Community gatheringtogether with our Valentine's tribute to our spouse... WOW!

It was a sunny Sunday afternoon on the 12th of February, the gathering started withanother inspiring Praise & Worship to lift our spirits high, then the mood went downmemory lane by viewing slide and video presentations on various Lamb of God activitiesthat transpired in 2011. The presentations served as a fitting indication that in 2012, wewill be buzzing with activities, more alive and focused with the Lord and definitely awhole lot of fun & laughter for community members – all for the glory of God!

A serious moment ensued during an exhaustive discussion by OG Gueco set the tonefor the 2012 Mission and Vision of Lamb of God Wellington, which focused on diverse

plans and programs that made the members all the more excited. OG emphasized too,the importance of being “active members” in the community, for involvement, betterteamwork and wider distribution of tasks and responsibilities among members.

For our culminating activity, we celebrated the month of the hearts. The husbandsexpressed their honest, heart-felt words by honouring their wives. We definitely set thetone for a romantic valentine celebration.

And for any romantic situations, moments can go on and on, but as always, time wasnot on our side so we had to pack up our things and call it a day.

O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo..? Well, my Juliet is calling … see youagain next time and Happy Valentine’s to all!

CHALLENGES IN LIVING TOGETHER AS COMMUNITYResource for House Group Discussion by Tom Caballes

March 2012

Judge Not!

"Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven… For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you."

[Luke 6:37-38]

It is part of our fallen nature for us to judge others quickly. We tend to criticise others in ourminds without knowing all the facts and the motive of people. But the Bible strongly warns us notto judge others – why? Because there is one real Judge, and He is God. And the Bible says theway we measure others will be the way God will measure us. If we are easy to condemn, criticise and speak negatively about others, how do you think God will see us on judgment day?

So How Do We Avoid Judging Others?1. In serving together or in an employer-employee relationship, it is okay to evaluate theperformance of others under our care. But our assessment is meant to be life-giving,constructive and up building, not harsh, discouraging or condemning.2. Always give the benefit of the doubt, especially if we do not know all the facts. If we do nothave to judge – and most of the time we do not have to – then do not. Judging is a decision.3. We cannot judge the motivation of others – we can only see the actions behind it. Leave it toGod to see the heart of the person.4. If we see others commit wrongdoing, we should try to gently correct him or her. Refer to Luke17:3. We are called to hate the sin but love the sinner.5. When we see the weaknesses and faults of others, let us also look at our own weaknessesand faults. This will keep us in the balance and keep us humble. Refer to Matthew 7:1-5.6. Let us look first at others’ good traits and talents, rather than their faults first. When youremember a certain person, what things do you recall first – the good or the bad?7. Do not seek revenge. For we know him who said, "Vengeance is mine; I will repay." Andagain, "The Lord will judge his people." [Hebrews 10:30]

Other Scripture References1. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord lookson the heart. [1 Samuel 16:7b]2. Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bringto light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart… [1Corinthians 4:5a]3. …Whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever islovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. [Philippians 4:8]4. Others: Romans 2:1-3, Romans 14:10, James 4:11-12, and James 5:9.

For Personal Reflection and Group Sharing:1. Do I easily judge and criticise others in my mind?2. When I recall those who are dear to me, do I see the good and the positive first before the

faults and the negative?3. What habits or attitude do I need to change to make me less judgmental of others? What

decisions do I need to make to change?

PRAYERWATCH - SOLDIERS OF CHRIST, ARISEFight the good fight

I was doing my time on the Prayerwatch a few weeks ago and I was reflecting onNehemiah 3: and it struck me how like the building of the wall around Jerusalem was solike our own Prayerwatch. Having read through Nehemiah 3: numerous times over theyears doing Prayerwatch I had not notice this before but here are some extracts fromNehemiah 3: NIV Builders of the Wall

1 Eliashib the high priest and his fellow priests went to work and rebuilt the Sheep Gate.2 The men of Jericho built the adjoining section, and Zakkur son of Imri built next tothem. 8 Uzziel son of Harhaiah, one of the goldsmiths, repaired the next section; andHananiah, one of the perfume-makers, made repairs next to that. 9 Rephaiah son ofHur, ruler of a half-district of Jerusalem, repaired the next section. 12 Shallum son ofHallohesh, ruler of a half-district of Jerusalem, repaired the next section with the help ofhis daughters. 17 Next to him, the repairs were made by the Levites under Rehum sonof Bani. Beside him, Hashabiah, ruler of half the district of Keilah, carried out repairs forhis district. 18 Next to him, the repairs were made by their fellow Levites under Binnuison of Henadad, ruler of the other half-district of Keilah. Next to him, Pedaiah son ofParosh 26 and the temple servants living on the hill of Ophel made repairs up to a pointopposite the Water Gate toward the east and the projecting tower. 27 Next to them, themen of Tekoa repaired another section, from the great projecting tower to the wall ofOphel. 30 Next to him, Hananiah son of Shelemiah, and Hanun, the sixth son of Zalaph, repaired another section. Next to them, Meshullam son of Berekiah made repairsopposite his living quarters. 31 Next to him, Malkijah, one of the goldsmiths, maderepairs 32 and between the room above the corner and the Sheep Gate the goldsmithsand merchants made repairs.

In this chapter the people rebuilding the wall and restoring the protection of Jerusalemcame from many occupations including the High Priest and fellow priests, the Levites, goldsmiths, perfume makers, rulers, merchants and one man even had his daughtershelping. These people listed were most unused to this manual work of restoring the wallbut their willingness was an important factor in accomplishing the rebuild of the wallalong with the specialist wall builders. Just as on our Prayerwatch we come with manydifferent skills, talents and occupations, the important thing is our commitment to spendthe time in providing protection for our brothers and sisters in the Lamb of Godcommunity by building the Spiritual wall. We notice that not all were from Jerusalem aspeople of Jericho and Tekoa helped with the building of the wall, so on the Prayerwatchwe are in many places throughout New Zealand. No doubt as they worked on rebuildingthe wall they greeted and pass the time of day with those they were working alongside, just as we do when we pass the Watch on by acknowledging those who have done timeand going to do time in maintaining the spiritual wall surrounding the Lamb of Godcommunity.

Is the wall outside your place well maintained and strong? It took the people ofJerusalem plus others from outside to rebuild the wall so for the spiritual wall of thePrayerwatch to be strong and well maintained we need a committed and prayerfulpeople prepared to stand shoulder to shoulder supporting each other.
