 Reverence

The Last Supper was a very important meal for Jesus and His disciples. In this meal Jesus gave His last words and instructions to them before he could face death. During this meal Jesus also experienced the pain of being betrayed by His own friend. However, Jesus remained calm and gave His precious body and blood to His disciples. This supper is the memorial of his voluntary offering to the Father for the salvation of men

Judas’ Betrayal and Peter’s Denial

Page 11: The Last Supper

What is more painful than to be betrayed and denied by your own trusted friends?

“He loved his own in the world and he loved them to the end” (John 13:1).

“I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father”

Judas’ Suicide and Peter’s Repentance

Page 13: The Last Supper

After realizing what he had done, we know that Judas committed suicide by hanging himself. On the other hand, Peter showed how much sorry he was and Jesus gave him a second chance. When Jesus appeared to them on His resurrection, Peter expressed his love for Jesus (John 21:15-19). He led so many people to God by his preaching and example until he finally offered his life when he was crucified in Rome.

We Respond:

Jesus accepted us even if we have betrayed and denied Him many times by our bad deeds. It is not too late to change our ways and to be faithful to Him. We should imitate Peter for his sincere act of asking for forgiveness from Jesus. He also kept his promise to Jesus, after his denial, that he would follow Him.

To Jesus

Let us begin imitating Peter’s positive attitude and values by writing a simple letter to Jesus.

Write the times when you have betrayed or denied Jesus by your wrong deeds.

Tell Jesus the things that you will do to make up for your mistakes.

Commit yourself to do that action.

Prayer

Father in Heaven, ever-living source of all that is good, keep me faithful in serving You. Help me to drink of Christ's Truth, and fill my heart with His Love so that I may serve You in faith and love and reach eternal life. In the Sacrament of the Eucharist You give me the joy of sharing Your Life. Keep me in Your presence. Let me never be separated from You and help me to do Your Will. Amen

Second Day

Page 19: The Last Supper

What do you do so that you will not forget a very important event in your life such as your birthday, family reunion, or school outing?

Page 20: The Last Supper

 Reverence

When He entered Jerusalem, Jesus was aware that He would not stay any longer with His friends. The time Has come for Him to save mankind through His own sacrifice. Jesus wanted His dear friends to always remember His love for them. He had the Last Supper with His apostles so that they will never forget the most important event in His life.

Role Play

What do you think is the most important thing that Jesus said during the last supper? Why is it the most important?

What was the instruction that Jesus gave the apostles?

Page 22: The Last Supper

NEW COMMANDMENT

“love one another as I love you (John 15:12).

He loved us even when we were still sinners. “The Lord asks us to love as he does, even our enemies, to make ourselves the neighbor of those farthest away, and to love children and the poor as Christ himself” (CCC 1825).

Page 23: The Last Supper

NEW COMMANDMENT

Love was the reason why he became man; love was the reason why he died on the cross; and love is the only reason why we can be saved. We can be saved because we can also love others. Jesus wants us to know that we are also capable of loving. Love can save us because God Himself is love.

Page 24: The Last Supper

We Respond

Through the breaking of the bread and the proclamation of the Word of God, the apostles fulfilled Jesus’s instructions.

Each day we celebrate the Holy Eucharist so that we could always see, smell, touch, and feel the presence of Jesus among us.

Moreover, in our daily lives we also live out the new commandment by our example; how we relate with others.

Page 25: The Last Supper

What is our attitude when we are celebrating the holy Mass?

What are the simple ways on how you remind others of the presence and love of Jesus?

What do you do so that you will not forget His teachings?

Third Day

Page 28: The Last Supper

What do you do when you want an important person to remember you?

Page 29: The Last Supper

Jesus wanted us to remember Him. Therefore, He instituted the Holy Eucharist during the Last Supper so that His presence could remain with us forever. How did he institute the Holy Eucharist? What did He give the apostles so that they will always remember and feel His presence?

Page 30: The Last Supper

Jesus transformed the bread and wine into His own Body and Blood in the Last Supper. Therefore, everytime we celebrate the Holy Eucharist we remember Jesus and we make present His sacrifice for our salvation. Jesus becomes truly present to us when we receive Him in the form of the Holy Bread. Can you think of another way on how we can remember Jesus?

Page 31: The Last Supper

When we follow the new commandment of Jesus we become living reminders of Jesus’s presence. Jesus said, “This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another" (John 13:35). If we love one another others will recognize that we are followers of Jesus. Today, let us think of ways on how we can become “living reminders of Jesus’ loving presence.”

Can we also do the same? How?
