Our group wanted to pick a topic that was not considered normal or cliché. We decided to
think outside of the box by choosing Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson was one of the greatest
entertainers of all time; he was legendary and he changed pop culture forever. He was a
worldwide figure and humanitarian that made significant changes in people’s lives.
The research for this project was conducted by using multiple primary and secondary
sources. In fact, one of our group members has multiple books about Michael Jackson that
contains these sources. For example, we have used court documents, concert tickets, photos, and
other credentials to incorporate into the project. The research was interesting because the sources
were at our reach because we appreciate Michael Jackson. We have tons of resources to use
because Michael is such a controversial topic. As well as, we have come across multiple
interviews from some videos that we have of him.
We selected our presentation category by considering the fact that technology is very
sufficient and it allows you to be creative with confidence. We are aware that the digital age is
growing, and that we can expand our creativity by using a website. We know that Michael
Jackson is a contentious topic, so we wanted to be digital to convey the big idea. For example, he
was always in the media and on camera; we just wanted to make that connection by using a
computer. We can customize the website without any problems and all of our group members
can make changes freely without the hands on construction of an exhibit.
Our project relates to the NHD theme by showing how Michael Jackson changed pop
culture and other people’s lives. He has made significant contributions to music and dance by
holding the title as being the king of pop. He is the blueprint or model for many artists today.
The music videos for his songs, including those of "Beat It", "Billie Jean", and "Thriller", were
credited with breaking down racial barriers. He is a songwriter who sets the beat for a decade. He
is a dancer with the fanciest feet on the street. He is a singer who cuts across all boundaries of
taste and style and color too”. The New York Times wrote that, "in the world of pop music, there
is Michael Jackson and there is everybody else.”
