FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Dear Light of Christ Catholic Collaborative, We continue our 50 day celebration of Christ's Resurrection. Happy Easter! Jesus Christ is Risen, Alleluia!!! Alleluia!!! This fourth Sunday of Easter is also called Good Shepherd Sunday. As a good shepherd will risk and lay down his life in order to protect his sheep, Jesus willingly sacrifices himself for the sake of his sheep. Jesus contrasts the actions of the good shepherd with the actions of the hired shepherd who abandons the sheep in the face of danger. Our Easter faith tells us that the Good Shepherd, after offering himself as a sin sacrifice, rises from the dead and transforms our human existence. The Good Shepherd has already come for us, has already reconciled us, and has already risen unto new and everlasting life. He is showing us the way back to him: we only have to follow him. Peter in the first reading after being arrested stands before the Sanhedrin and follows him by boldly proclaiming Jesus Christ risen from the dead. May we be so bold to do the same and proclaim Jesus, the Good Shepherd to those around us. As part of our Local Pastoral Plan within Disciples In Mission, we have formed a Vocation Team. We have met once already and will meet again this Sunday to surface ideas to promote Vocations to the Priesthood, Diaconate, and Religious Life. We will also attend a Vocation Seminar offered by the Archdiocesan Vocations Office this coming Saturday. Please keep our Vocation Team in your prayers. Beginning next Weekend, we will be in the midst of First Holy Communions for our Second Graders. Please pray for the children that they always hunger for the Bread of Life and receive Jesus each week to strengthen their faith. A week from this Thursday, May 3rd, His Excellency, Bishop John Dooher will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation on the Candidates of Holy Ghost Parish. Please keep all these young men and women in your prayers. We all pray that the Holy Spirit will be effective in their lives and that they be inspired to live out their faith in an active way. Special thanks to Mrs. Smith and all the Catechists and Office Support for all their fine work with these young men and women to bring them to this special day. In a couple of weeks from now, Cardinal Seán is calling all of his priests to the Annual Presbyteral Convocation on Wednesday, May 9th. The Convocation provides the priests an opportunity to pray together and reflect on the gift of priesthood and the mission of the Church. We will be led in our discussions and prayer by Fr. Mark O'Keefe, OSB. Fr. Mark is the former president-rector of Saint Meinrad School of Theology. He continues to teach there. He is the author of a five-book series on the Catholic priesthood. They include Priestly Wisdom,
St. Bridget’s Youth Choir The St. Bridget’s Youth Choir would like to invite all interested singers grades 3-12 to join us. The Youth Choir leads music for the 9AM mass each week of the school year and practice is at 8AM prior to mass. Contact information for the choir can be found in the bulletin
Priestly Prayer, Priestly Virtues, The Ordination of a Priest and In Persona Christi. It should be a very good Convocation. In your kindness, please keep our Boston Priests in your prayers. Last Saturday, Cardinal Seán O’Malley ordained 14 new deacons at Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell. They are: Joseph Almeida, Maciej Kazimierz, Corey Bassett-Tirrell, Marcos Enrique, Timothy Paul Hynes, Przemyslaw Kasprzak, Br. John Edward Koelle, O.F.M., Cap., Brian Peter O'Hanlon, Mark Teodor Olejnik, Francis Huy Duc Pham, William Henry Robinson, Carignan Langlois Rouse, Victor Luna Vitug II and James Paul Wargovich. Please pray for these men who will be ordained as Priests next May 2019. And pray for the 7 men who will be ordained Priests next month at the Basilica and Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. They are: Deacon Baldemar Garza, Deacon Joseph Kim, Deacon Benito Moreno, Deacon Lambert Nieme, Deacon Andrea Povero, Deacon Michael Rora, and Deacon Eric Velasquez. The 2018 Catholic Appeal. Cardinal Seán is asking Catholics across the Archdiocese to pledge their support to this year’s Catholic Appeal. The Catholic Appeal sustains over 50 ministries serving our parish and many people throughout the Archdiocese. Please respond to Cardinal Seán’s important request and give generously. Our parishes directly benefit from the 50 ministries supported by the Appeal and your gift will help us reach our 2018 goals. From personal experience, I know the importance of this Appeal. As a Pastor of two Parishes, I need to let you know that we benefit greatly from the ministries the Appeal supports. Both of our Parishes are coming close to our Goals – 78% for St. Bridget’s and 97% for Holy Ghost. Please be generous. Let us pray for each other. God bless, Father Mahoney
