Stewardship is something we deal with all the time because God wants us to use our re- sources effectively. From the time of creation, God gave us the responsibility of over- seeing the world and all that is within it. With regard to the recent Gulf oil spill, we have seen how fragile our world is and what greed does when we put money over stewardship and the protect- ing of our environment. At other times, we as humanity have brought certain endan- gered wildlife species back to plentiful numbers and we have fulfilled our job as care- takers of this world. Stewardship not only applies to the way we care for our world, but the way we man- age our own talents, gifts, financial resources and time. We want to use these re- sources to the maximum so that God receives the great- est glory through our lives. Each one of us has these kinds of resources to offer back to God. On July 18 th I preached a sermon on the story of the talents which God as our Master gives out to us. We can use cash, check, debit card and/or credit card to add to these Kroger gift cards. If 100 families in our congregation spend $100 per week on groceries, in a year’s time we will get back from Kroger $19,200 in a charita- ble donation. That amount of money is what we need to complete our kitchen pro- ject. Gift cards can be gotten through the church office and Tot Heinrichs or Joan Clark. This common sense approach is good steward- ship. Another area of common sense stewardship has to do with a program that will start in August to forgive our roof and maintenance loan of $40,000. Stewardship is something we

deal with all the time because

God wants us to use our re-

sources effectively. From the

time of creation, God gave

us the responsibility of over-

seeing the world and all that

is within it. With regard to

the recent Gulf oil spill, we

have seen how fragile our

world is and what greed does

when we put money over

stewardship and the protect-

ing of our environment. At

other times, we as humanity

have brought certain endan-

gered wildlife species back to

plentiful numbers and we

have fulfilled our job as care-

takers of this world.

Stewardship not only applies

to the way we care for our

world, but the way we man-

age our own talents, gifts,

financial resources and time.

We want to use these re-

sources to the maximum so

that God receives the great-

est glory through our lives.

Each one of us has these

kinds of resources to offer

back to God.

On July 18th I preached a

sermon on the story of the

talents which God as our

Master gives out to us. We

are not to sit on our re-

sources and be shy, but we

are to utilize those gifts, and

take appropriate action and

risk in order to multiply

those talents for the Lord.

One easy way that we can

multiply God’s gifts to us as

a congregation is through

the Kroger gift card pro-

gram. Our church is giving

out Kroger gift cards that we

can use in the purchase of

our groceries at any Kroger

store in the country. When

we do so, Kroger will give

back to First Presbyterian

Church a 4% charitable con-

tribution which we can use

for the renovation of our

church kitchen.

These Kroger gift cards are

also refillable which means

that we can add dollars to

them whenever we go into

Kroger to buy groceries. We

can use cash, check, debit

card and/or credit card to

add to these Kroger gift

cards. If 100 families in our

congregation spend $100 per

week on groceries, in a year’s

time we will get back from

Kroger $19,200 in a charita-

ble donation. That amount

of money is what we need to

complete our kitchen pro-

ject. Gift cards can be gotten

through the church office

and Tot Heinrichs or Joan

Clark. This common sense

approach is good steward-

ship.

Another area of common

sense stewardship has to do

with a program that will start

in August to forgive our roof

and maintenance loan of

$40,000. An anonymous do-

nor is willing to match dollar

for dollar up to $20,000 in

order to forgive this loan and

get it off our books. When

we donate a $1 toward this

project, it is really like donat-

ing $2 because of the match-

ing gift that is available in

August and September.

If 100 families within our

church donate $200 and pay

it over the course of the next

2 years, $100 each year, we

will have raised $20,000. That

$20,000 will be doubled by

this anonymous gift and we

will have paid off the entire

loan. This common sense

approach is good steward-

ship, but we need your help.

Let’s not bury our gift in the

sand, but take appropriate

action so that God’s kingdom

might grow. Let Jesus, our

Master say, “Well done good

and faithful servant! You

have been faithful with a few

things; I will put you in

charge of many things. Come

and share your master’s hap-

piness!” (Matthew 25:23)
