Liskerrett Community Cinema
screens
it’s Hundredth Film and regular matinee screenings will continue too
This month Liskerrett Community Cinema will be screening it’s
hundredth film ’Woman in Gold’ on Friday 8th January (see Page
2). The Liskerrett Community Cinema has been running since
2007, with the aim of showing recently released films locally in a
convivial environment with the added pleasure of watching and
discussing a film as a group.
The film club got going thanks to being able to share equipment
owned by Liskeard U3A. However since the first screening in
September 2007 of Little Miss Sunshine lots of things have
improved, not least the quality of the presentation and the
comfort of the seating!’
‘We still share equipment with Liskeard U3A but improved the
quality of our screen and projection five years ago thanks to a
grant from Cornwall Community Foundation and the generosity
of Liskeard Breathers Group’ said Liskerrett volunteer, Jenny
Foster. ‘In 2013 we invested in a new sound system and in 2015 obtained new chairs thanks to the BFI
Neighbourhood Cinema Equipment Fund. We started our regular sub-titled matinee screenings last July, with
funding support from Reaching Communities and Cinema For All.’
‘We were pleased to receive this extra support to help make our screenings as accessible to as many people
as possible. We are a community cinema and it is the audience that get to decide which films will be screened
by casting their votes from a list of choices offered, so audience opinion really does count.’
Based at the Liskerrett Community Centre in Varley Lane, Liskeard, the hall has wheelchair access and
facilities for the disabled so all are welcome. Films are screened on the first Friday of the month (unless it
falls on a bank holiday, as this month) at 2.30pm and at 7.30pm.
‘Tickets cost £4, (£3 for under 16’s). And if you rely on a carer to come with you, they can see the film for
free. To tempt you even further we offer a slice of homemade cake with a cup of tea or coffee for a £1.’
For details of the full film programme visit www.liskerrett.co.uk/films or pick up a flyer from Liskerrett.

(2015) 106 minutes Certificate 12A Directed by Sarah Gavron
Suffragette is about the early feminists fighting for equal
voting rights in Edwardian England. These were working
women who had seen peaceful protest achieve nothing.
Radicalised and turning to violence as the only route to
change, they were willing to lose everything in their fight
for equality - their jobs, their homes, their children.

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra have invited Cornish musicians to join them for an orchestral making music day with a difference. As part of their Cornwall Residency the BSO have been working with young people, students and adults giving opportunities for coaching, performances and mentoring. They shall be celebrating their visit to Liskeard by inviting musicians from across Cornwall to work with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s Associate Musician, Patrick Bailey, along with a string quartet of professional musicians for one day only, creating a brand new piece of music—from scratch—in just 3 hours. Joining forces with Liskeard’s regular “Sounds Vital” project, musicians will form an ensemble of mixed instruments and work together to create rhythms, melodies and musical phrases to form a brand new composition, ready for sharing to family and friends at 2pm. The sharing will also include a performance by the local ‘Sounds Vital’ ensemble, who have been working throughout Autumn to devise new music together, and a performance by the BSO string quartet. Why not support this amazing collaboration by coming along to the performance at Liskeard School and Community College on Saturday 16th January at 2pm. The performance is free. ANY QUESTIONS?
