It was written by the American classical music composer and teacher Katherine Kennicott Davis in 1941
It was originally titled “Carol of the Drum” and was based on a traditional Czech carol.
It was recorded multiple times by different artists until Harry Simeone released it under the name “The Little Drummer Boy”
