The long and illustrious history
of Kershaw stretches back
decades into US railroad
history. Royce Kershaw
established Kershaw
Manufacturing in 1944. Mr.
Kershaw developed the first
Ballast Regulating equipment
for use in track maintenance
based on a mounted pick-up
truck.
This machine automatically
profiled the ballast for the track
surface allowing for a
unprecedented improvement in
maintenance timescales. Over
the next 60 years Kershaw
Manufacturing has developed
many other specialty machines
used by railroads throughout
the world in maintenance of
track surfaces for both
passenger and cargo freight.
Kershaw Manufacturing was
acquired from the Kershaw
family in 1998 by Progress Rail
Services Corporation. Progress
Rail Services Corporation’s
corporate headquarters are
located in Albertville, AL.
Progress Rail Services is a
major supplier of products and
services to the rail industry in
North America. Progress Rail
Services has operating
businesses in 23 states in the
US as well as offices in
Canada, Mexico, Brazil,
England and Italy.
