Devotion ThoughtWhen you show compassion for someone you show empathy. God has compassion on us. God has shown compassion to us through sending Jesus to die on a cross. Because of this we continue to experience grace in our lives. As an expression of His love, we can continue to show compassion to others.

How can we put compassion into practice? Do you have a friend going through a tough time? Let them know you care and that you will listen to them. No judgment or advice needs to be given.

We often say we are too busy or we don’t have time today or we’ll do it next week. Don’t wait. The time to show compassion is now.

This is what the Lord says: Do what is right and true. Be kind and merciful to each other.

Zechariah 7:9

Welcome to 2021 everyone.

There is a lot of optimism and opportunity when it comes to sport and physical education at our school this year as we look to start new initiatives.

Netball

Netball recommences in 2021 catering for students from years 2 to 12. Senior School (7 – 12) will operate on a Tuesday after school and Junior School (2 – 6) will operate on a Thursday after school. Both days will run from 3:15 to 4:15.

Futsal

For the first time this year, Futsal will be open for all grades (P – 12). P – 6 will run on a Tuesday afternoon from 3:15 – 4:15 and 7 – 12 will operate on a Thursday morning from 7:15 – 8:15.

Running Club

Thursday mornings will be busy at LORDS as we kick off our running club. This is open to anyone from grades 3 – 12 who want to get active and get some exercise before school on Thursday morning from 7:30 - 8:15.

Kokoda

LORDS will represent at KOKODA again in 2021. The first information session for students will be Tuesday at lunch of week 2. If students wish to participate in KOKODA this year, they must come to the information on that Tuesday. More information will follow.

Touch

LORDS will be looking to kickstart a touch football development program similar to our futsal and netball programs. Stay tuned as a community survey will come out soon to gauge interest.

AGCC

AGCC training will commence in week 3 with our interschool games beginning in week 6 of this term.

Junior School Sport

Junior School Interschool Sport will begin in week 5 vs Livingstone. Students will select their sports in week 1.

Swimming

The Beenleigh Zone swimming carnival for Junior School will be held at Canterbury College on February 8th. Districts will be held on February 15th for all students 10 – 19 who qualify.

The LORDS Sport ReportBeach Safety Day

Our grade 5/6 students will participate in a beach safety day at Burleigh Heads on Monday, March 8th. More information will come for these students.

It will be a busy start to the 2021 calendar and that is good as we look to engage our students in many different sporting opportunities.

Mr Brandon Bull

The Return of Futsal

Junior school futsal will resume in Week 3 (Tuesday 9th Feb) and will run from 3.15-4.15pm. Please meet on the oval. We are not too far off of being able to enter a girls only team in some of the age groups. It would be great to have a couple more young ladies to join us so that we can make this happen.

Great news! Futsal is expanding!

All students in the Middle and senior school are invited to join. Middle and Senior school sessions will begin on Thursday 11th Feb and will run each Thursday morning from 7.15am-8.15am in the COLA. Grab your mates and come for a kick.

Futsal is free and non-committal, come and go as you please. As a school we also enter a variety of tournaments throughout the year.

Get your boots ready! We look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks.

From the Junior SchoolClass Carers

Class Carers are a group of parents who volunteer to take on a role of service to both the families and the teachers of Lutheran Ormeau Rivers District School (LORDS).

AIMS

• To care for the students and families of our school.

• To provide channels of communication between families and between families and the school.

• To assist teachers in the care and support of the students and families of their class.

• To develop further our sense of community.

1. Role of Class Carers

• Support and assist families of the class.

• Support and assist the class teacher.

• Promote positive relations between parents and the teacher.

• Maintain confidentiality of all involved, while passing on relevant information to the Class teacher, Head of Junior School or Principal if deemed appropriate.

• To model Christ in all situations.

• The role of Class Carer is NOT to act as a ‘go-between’ to resolve conflicts between parents/teacher(s) or parent/parent. It is expected that the Grievance Policy and Procedure / Round Table Policy will be adhered to if difficulties arise.

2. Selection of Class Carers

• Candidates can self-nominate, or be nominated by teachers or previous Class Carers.

• Self- Nominated or Nominated Class Carers will be approached by the Head of Junior School or Principal.

• One or two people will act as Class Carer at any one time for each class, forming a Learning Community Team with preferably at least one of the team members being an active Christian.

3. Class Carers Meetings

• Class Carers meetings will be held at the beginning of each term.

• Class Carers are asked to be present at each meeting.

4. Communicating Information

• Class Carers will communicate any significant information (e.g. births, bereavements, sickness, family crisis) to the Head of Junior School, who will in turn convey such information to the Principal if necessary.

• It is expected that sensitivity and discretion will be exercised by Class Carers when dealing with personal information whilst serving in this role, taking particular note of the Privacy Policy.

• Further information regarding specific tasks for class carers can be found in the Class Carers’ Handbook. (Available from your classroom teacher) Please let your classroom teacher know – via email if you might be interested in taking on this important role for 2021. We would like to finalise our class carers no later than Monday 15 Feb 2021.

We will be highlighting our students by year groups throughout 2021. We've kicked off February with the youngest students in our school, Prep and Year 1.

This month, the Prep and Year 1 students can enter a drawing competition depicting their first week at school. The teachers have the forms so please encourage your little ones to enter. We will be giving the best 3 drawings an art prize for their efforts. Visit our web site in the coming weeks to see their artwork. There's more to come so watch Facebook and our web site!

Congratulations to Brady W on his school based traineeship with Narellan Pools. Brady will be

working one day per week with the Narellan team while completing his certificate III in Business

Administration.

Year 12 - 2021

Last school photo for our Year 12s! We are very proud of these young people and look forward to watching them serve and lead the community this year. Straight after this photo, our student leaders

handed out “Week 1 - Done Zooper Doopers” to students in a young grades. These students are

ready and keen to do great things in 2021!

Year 12s have been planning a Thursday afternoon program, which will take place every week during sport time. Their thinking reflects their understanding of the importance of balance, study, wellbeing and connection. They began their planning last year and have refined their thinking today - before launching the program. We are keen to work alongside these young people to hear their thinking and put in place great things for their final year.
