Lounsbury Lingo

You will notice a wide variety of surname spellings associated with the Lounsbury Tree. The most common

spelling is “Lounsbury” though “Lounsberry” and “Lounsbery” are also prevalent. In 99% of researched cases, Canadians

and Americans with these surname spellings are linked by common ancestors: Richard Lounsbury and Elizabeth

(Pennoyer) Lounsbury of what is now Rye, NY, who were married there in 1670. There are many other surname

variations who fit our extended family tree, including Lansbury (though apparently not the famous actress Angela

Lansbury), Lainspeary, and Lonsberry.

For simplicity, we use the letter “L” to denote the surname regardless of its spelling. Hence the phrasing “L” Tree

at the top of this page.

Lownsborough/Lownsbrough Family in Hackness Parish Records

The Hackness Parish Records are held in the East Riding of Yorkshire Archives, County Hall, in the city of Beverley: Register of baptisms, marriages and burials PE131/1 1567-1653 and Register of baptisms,

marriages and burials PE131/2 1653-1783.

The photographs of our ancestor’s records, that I obtained from the original parish registers, on my visit, are protected by copyright and permission to display them on a website is not permissible. The following records match the original hand written records. They can also be obtained from Ancestry.com and http://archive.org/details/registerofparish25hack which is a digitized copy of The Register of the Parish of Hackness, Co. It is possible for Richard, b. 1619, s/o George, to be the father of Richard, b. 1634. It is not likely that this Richard, b. 1619 was the father of Marie b. 1630 at 11 years of age and then John b. 1632. Marie and John are both older siblings of Richard, b. 1634.

Other Lownsbrough Records

I looked carefully in the two volumes of records 1567-1783 and found no possible death records for George and Agnes, nor any death record for Richard Lownsbrough. There are no other birth records for a Richard other than the 1619 record and 1634 record. As expected – they are not available online either. The records for Hackness Parish appear to be incomplete with omissions. At first, I was excited, when I read the following!

Eliza Lownsbrough of Harwood dale dyed the xvth (15th) May and buried the next day

The Eliza Lownsbrough death and burial record above is likely not the wife of Richard b. 1619. Eliza above is possibly the wife of William Lownsbrough of Harwood dale who dyed xxx (30th) Mar bur. firste day of April 1660. Eliza’s death and burial record does not state that Eliza is the w/o Richard nor William. Harwood Dale is about 3¼ miles north of the village of Hackness in the Parish of Hackness. After the death of Lady Margaret Hoby in 1633, her husband built a chapel at Harwood Dale in her memory. The Lownsborough family would have been tenant farmers of the estate owners of Hackness Parish – the Hoby Family (1589-1640) and then the Sydenham Family (1640-1795).

The third bann was published 17 October 1657 d/o Elizab. Lownsbrough widd. John Dickinson and Marie Lownsbrough’s marriage is more than one year later - 16 November 1658. It is not usual for a marriage to be delayed one year later when the distance from Broxa to Hackness is only about 1.5 miles. There is no mention of Elizab. Lownsbrough on the marriage record of Marie and John Dickinson. Elizabeth likely died in the year after the banns and before the marriage. Elizabeth’s death is not recorded in the Hackness Parish Register.

According to the research of Raymond Lounsbury, “John Dickinson continued to pay the rent each year

until 1674 when the payment was made in the name of Marie Dickinson. It must therefore be assumed that John Dickinson was deceased by this date. Probably Marie was also dead by 1690 because her name does not appear in the rent rolls on or after that date.”

John Dickinson, h/o Marie, possibly not deceased until 2 April 1677. Payment made in the name of Marie Dickinson – not listed as widd [a widow] so husband possibly not deceased.

This death record could also possibly be for the son of John Dickinson, John, who was baptized 16 March 1667. Although; death and burial records for children were recorded with ‘sonne of’ or ‘daughter of’ or ‘child of’ written in the record.

Conclusions: 1. Raymond H. Lounsbury has recorded Richard Lownsbrough b. 1634, s/o Richard and Elizabeth as our ancestor. There are no records available to prove who Richard and Elizabeth’s ancestors were. 2. According to the research of Raymond Lounsbury, Elizabeth died before 1659. “Richard Lownsbrough was dead by 1650. For the year 1650-1, the ‘Rents and Tithes,’ amounting to lli. 9s. l0d. paid for the use of the Broxa lands were charged to ‘Elizabeth Lounsbrough Widow.’ Elizabeth herself was dead by 1659. From May 20, 1658, until the end of March, 1659, the rents and tithes were charged to her son-in-law, John Dickinson, with this

notation: ‘Widd Lounsbr: mort’.” Elizabeth Lounsbrough w/o Richard possibly died before 16 November 1658; because, she is not recorded on the marriage record of her daughter, Marie, to John Dickinson.


Did cousin Aaron mean to kill Alexander

Aaron Burr Jr. was the third Vice-

President of the United States under Thomas

Jefferson. At that time the Vice-President was

directly elected.

Aaron was the second cousin once

removed of Elizabeth Pinckney (1767 - 1844)

wife of Robert Lounsbury (1766 - 1821). Aaron's

grandmother was also named Elizabeth Pinckney

(1675 - 1722).

Aaron Burr was born in 1756 in New

Jersey. He was the son of Aaron Burr, Sr. — the

second president of Princeton as well as the

grandson of Jonathan Edwards. He graduated at

16 from the College of New Jersey [which later

became Princeton University] as a student of

theology. He eventually switched his career track

to study law.

Burr began his military service as a volunteer around 1775. He served as a volunteer during Benedict Arnold's

"March to Quebec" [September 13 — November 9, 1775]. He is actually credited with trying to evacuate the body of

General Richard Montgomery after he was killed in action during the invasion. He joined the staff of George Washington

in 1776 when he was sent to New York City. He and General Washington apparently did not get along and he left a few

weeks later. On June 22 he became an aide-de-camp to General Putnam eventually seeing action in the Battle of Long

Island and the evacuation of New York City. He was commissioned Lieutenant Colonel of Malcolm's Regiment on

January 4, 1777. He was stationed at Orange County, New York, essentially the commander of the Regiment at the age of

21!

He spent the winter of 1777-1778 at Valley Forge where he was almost involved with the Conway Cabal. After

evacuating with the army on June 19, 1778, he commanded a brigade during Monmouth. After the action there, he openly

supported General Charles Lee — whom Washington had reprimanded upon finding him retreating from battle. Burr

commanded his regiment following the Monmouth Campaign in Westchester County, New York.

Aaron Burr resigned on March 3, 1779 citing ill health. By the fall of the following year, he resumed his career as

a student of law. In 1782, he married Mrs. Theodosia Bartow Prevost, the widow of a British officer who was also ten

years older than him. They had one daughter, Theodosia, in 1783, who subsequently died at sea in 1813. Aaron Burr and

his wife were married for twelve years, when she passed away.

Burr was a very successful attorney. He moved to New York in 1783 and shared a practice with Alexander

Hamilton. His attempts in politics generally ended in failure. A success came when George Clinton, Governor of New

York named him Attorney General in 1789. In 1791 he was elected a senator of New York State, he served six years and

later won a seat in the state legislature when he was not re-elected to the Senate. After the loss of his seat in the legislature

in 1799, he began to organize the Democratic Party in New York City. The group became a political powerhouse that

could ensure the election of a democratic President. The ticket was to be Thomas Jefferson as President and Aaron Burr as

Vice-President. The wrangling of the "politicos" ended in a draw — both men received seventy-three electoral votes each.

Jefferson and Burr were not really fond of one another and in New York — Alexander Hamilton decided to use his weight

and influence to support Thomas Jefferson — who was elected. As Vice President, Aaron Burr presided over the Senate

and he eventually was nominated in 1804 to the governorship of New York, but lost to Republican Morgan Lewis. Each

loss he blamed on Alexander Hamilton's political and personal machinations. On July 11, 1804 — Burr and Hamilton met

at ten paces at Weehawken. Both fired and Hamilton fell, mortally wounded. Burr stayed in his position in Jefferson's

administration.

Passings

HAZEL "POLLY" WINDLE LANSBERRY, 76, formerly of Front Royal, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Heritage

Hall.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Maddox Funeral in Front Royal conducted

by Pastor Seth Alcorn. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Lansberry was born May 7, 1936 in Warren County, VA, daughter of the late George Burke Windle, Sr. and

Beulah Brown Windle. She was married to the late Leonard M. Lansberry.

She was employed by Capitol Records in the Tape Production Department.

Surviving are two sisters, Janice Dyer of Kansas, and Peggy Shell of Front Royal; a brother, Richard Windle of

Savanah, GA; 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild.

Mrs. Lansberry was predeceased by her son, Ronnie Lansberry in 2007 and her daughter, Linda Cromer in 2011.

She was also predeceased by her siblings, Gilbert Windle, Dorothy Donovan, Robert E. Windle, Arthur Windle, Tommy

Windle, George Burke Windle, Jr., Chubby Brown, and Evelyn Didawick.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Cromer, Jr., Ricky Cromer, Sr., Joe McCormick, Willie McCormick, Donnie Shell, and

Tommy Shell. Honorary pallbearer will be Brian Laing.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 14, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

WILMA MAE LANSBERRY, age 74, of Lehman, peacefully went home to be with the Lord at

her home on Saturday, May 12, 2012. Wilma was born in Dallas Township, on May 24, 1938, and

was the daughter of the late Earl and Mildred Higgins Weidner. She graduated from Dallas

Township High School in 1956 and was employed as a secretary for the former Commonwealth

Telephone Co., Dallas, for several years and was later employed by Greco's Apothecary, Kingston.

Wilma and her husband, Willard Russell Lansberry, who were married on March 31, 1962,

recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She worked tirelessly on their dairy farm and

was a loving mother to her children. Wilma was a member of the Lehman-Idetown United

Methodist Church, Lehman. Her beautiful voice adorned church choirs throughout her life, and her

Christian values brought comfort and understanding to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her brothers

Richard and Donald Weidner. Surviving, beside her husband, Willard, are children, Deborah Misson and her husband,

William, of Hunlock Creek; Russell Lansberry and his wife, Mary, of Lehman; Lawrence Lansberry of Lake Township;

grandchildren, Heather Perry, Thomas Perry, Joshua Perry, Sarah Perry, Lucas Lansberry and Justin Lansberry; twin

brother William Weidner and his wife, Ellen, of Allegany, N.Y.; sisters-in-law, Betty Weidner of Centermoreland and

Shirley Weidner of Lehman; nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Lehman-

Idetown United Methodist Church, Mountain View Drive, Lehman, with the Rev. Robert Ryder officiating. Friends may

call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service on Tuesday. A private interment will be in the Lehman Center

Cemetery, Lehman. The family would like to thank all those who visited, prayed and cared for her, including Asera Care

Hospice, and a special thanks for the prayers and guidance from the Cross Creek Community Church, Trucksville, and the

Lehman-Idetown United Methodist Church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made

to the Lehman-Idetown United Methodist Church, PO Box 1, Lehman, PA 18627. Funeral arrangements are by the Curtis

CHARLES RICHARD LOUNSBERY, a resident of Kendal at Ithaca, formerly of Trumansburg, passed away at the age

of 96 on Wednesday, June 6, 2012. He was born April 24, 1916, to Charles Richard Lounsbery and Annie Laurie Thomas

Lounsbery in Brooktondale, NY. He was the youngest of seven children. Charlie graduated from Ithaca High School in

1933. He studied at Cornell University, the University of Connecticut, NYU, the Grand Central School of Art, and the Art

Students League of New York. During World War II, he worked in the engineering department at Pratt & Whitney in East


Hartford, CT as a mechanical draftsman. He also worked in the combustion engineering field in New York, detailing parts

for commercial stokers and boilers. In the late 1940s, he was hired at the West 34th Street office of J.C. Penney to do

architectural drafting as part of their window modernization program for stores throughout the country. He later became

Registrar at Turtle Bay Music School in New York. He called those the best years of his life,

and worked there for ten years until his retirement. After returning to this area, he honored his

farming roots and became a member of the Searsburg Grange. He was active with both the

Trumansburg and Caroline Senior Citizens, and was a member of the Liberty Hyde Bailey

Garden Club. His gardening expertise was legendary. He loved that his orchids and other

beautiful flowering plants lining the windows at Kendal were enjoyed by so many. Staying

active was very important to him and he practiced t'ai chi for many years. He had a wide range

of interests, including music, theater, politics, and cooking. Charlie firmly believed that

learning never stopped. He was fascinated with how the brain works, and with human

interactions in general. Setting aside time to enjoy life and "smell the roses" was a priority.

Charlie often expressed the thought that each day was a gift to be cherished and shared with his many, many friends and

family. As one of his nephews wrote, "Charlie's pies were second to none. Saying he had a green thumb was like saying

Shakespeare wrote pretty good sonnets or that Gershwin was handy with a tune. He loved opera, hated beer, and didn't

suffer bad politicians. His taste in ties was impeccable and he sported the most magnificent eyebrows. He gently and

persuasively convinced us of the beauty of a cold November day and made friends faster than anyone on the planet."

Charlie is survived by nieces and nephews, John Wallace, Deer Park, NY, Peter Hutchings, New York, NY, Sarah

Hutchings Taber, San Francisco, CA, Hilda Lounsbery Shepard, Watkinsville, GA, Ann Lounsbery Owens, Seattle, WA,

Lois Lounsbery, Brooktondale, NY, John Lounsbery, Santa Rosa, CA, and Jim Albertson, Longmont, CO; as well as

many great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by nephew, Robert Wallace and niece, Jeanne

Lounsbery Nash. A memorial service will be scheduled and announced at a later date. Those who wish to make a

EDITH BLANCHE ALLEN nee LOUNSBURY, 85, of Petitcodiac and formerly of River Glade, passed away

Thursday, April 5, 2012 at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital. Born in Wheaton Settlement, she was a daughter of the

late Edwin and Edith (Howard) Lounsbury. Edith was a homemaker, but in her early years she worked at the DVA

Hospital in Saint John as a cook. She was a member of the River Glade Baptist Church, the River Glade Seniors, Friends

and Neighbours, a lifetime member of WMS and a member of the now closed River Glade W.I. Edith is survived by her

husband of 64 years Bill; children Ken (Mary) of Salisbury, Doug (Diana) of River Glade, Kathy

Hopper (Arnold) of Sussex and Sherry Seely (Grant) of Petitcodiac; grandchildren Jeff, Scott, Troy,

Kris, Michael, Eileen and Kirk; eleven great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; brother

George Lounsbury and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by sister Gladys Dickson;

infant twin sister and brother Wilfred Lounsbury.

ADAM HUNTER LONSBURY, 27, of Green passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2012.

He was born in Akron on June 19, 1985. Adam attended St. Paul's Catholic School prior to his family moving to

Green where he graduated from Portage Lakes Career Center and Green High School in 2004.

Adam is survived by his parents, Mark and Cheryl Lonsbury; grandparents, Richard and

Joanne Lowe; sister, Ashley Lonsbury; fiancée, Charlie Husk and many aunts, uncles, cousins,

friends and coworkers.

LOUNSBURY, Ina - As the face of Jesus came into view, Ina never hesitated a moment as her Lord and Savior extended

His hand with an invitation to come home for her birthday. Ina completed her earthly journey on Friday, March 16, 2012,

while a resident of Pine Grove Nursing Home. Ina Sadie Appleton Lounsbury was born March 18,

1921 in Grey Rapids, N.B., daughter of the late Sadie (Henderson) Curtis and Justus Curtis. She was a

lady of great faith and attended the Apostolic Church in Noonan. Ina loved to sing and dance and

Praise the Lord so her 91st birthday in her brand new heavenly home will be a celebration like no

other. Well done thy good and faithful servant! Ina was a former employee at the Lord Beaverbrook

Hotel and made many lasting friendships during her years there. Ina leaves behind to treasure her

memory, a son Zane Lounsbury (Patricia) of Lower Queensbury and three daughters, Shirley Burgess

(Harvey) and Edith Maillet both of Fredericton and Julie Skaling (Peter) of Nackawic. She will be

Harold Benjamin LOUNSBURY, 92, formerly of Glenvale, passed away at his residence, the Jordan Lifecare Centre, on

February 15, 2012. Born in Butternut Ridge, he was a son of the late Ernest and Ida (nee Morton) Lounsbury. Harold was

a member of the Petitcodiac Baptist Church and the Masonic Steven Lodge No. 37 of Petitcodiac. He was employed with

Howatts Grocery as well as Lounsburys Restaurant for many years. Harold was predeceased by his wife Etta (nee

Norval "Jack" LOUNSBURY, 75, of Petitcodiac passed away Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Moncton Hospital. Born

in Dobson Corner, Jack was a son of the late Walter and Beatrice (Cole) Lounsbury. He was a former employee of the T.

Eaton Company, Forano and retired as a custodian from the school board in 1989. Jack was a

member of the Petitcodiac Seniors, Trail Blazers, Golf and Country Club and a past member-

volunteer of the Saint John Ambulance. He enjoyed woodworking, bowling and time spent with

family. Jack is survived and sadly missed by his beloved wife of 55 years Mary (Lamb); children

Gary (Kim) of Petitcodiac, Starr Perry (Dennis) of Havelock, Vicky McKnight (Jerry) of

Glenvale, Amy Thorne (Robin) of Havelock and Shelley Alward-Warren (Troy) of Petitcodiac;

PASTOR KEITH B. LONSBERRY, 68, was called to the Lord on July 20th, of a heart attack. He was

born in Flint, MI on February 5th, 1944.

He graduated from Davidson High School in 1962. After high school and many different adventures

and obstacles in his life, he realized his true calling and went on to graduate from Concordia Theological

Seminary in 1978 with a Masters in Divinity. His was then given a Missionary-at-Large assignment to Fort

Atkinson, WI. He started a church and served 8 years as Pastor of Peace Lutheran. Pastor Lonsberry then

went on to take a call to be Administrative Pastor at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Horicon, WI.

He served 14 years there from 1986 to 2000, and raised a family that called Horicon home. With his

last child leaving the house the Lord once again had different plans for Keith and he took a call to serve as Senior Pastor

at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City, AZ. He served the congregation of Fountain of Life for 10 years before

deciding to retire in 2010 and take up golf full time.

He was married to Catherine Lonsberry from 1971 to 2002. A marriage that produced three children. He then

married Rose Lonsberry on November 9th, 2011, whom he lived the remainder of his days with.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Viola (Braisie) Lonsberry. He is survived by his brother Lee

Lonsberry. His children Lisa Caicedo and her children Eddie and Katie, Leah Peserik, her husband Jason and their

children Grace and Aaron, Bryan Lonsberry and his son Brayden. He is further survived by his wife Rose and her 6

children and 12 grandchildren. He was a loving father and grandfather, devoted Pastor, and humble servant to the Lord.

SHOEBRIDGE, Susan Elizabeth (née LOUNSBURY) - passed peacefully at the Pembroke Regional

Hospital early the morning of January 9th, 2012 with her children at her side after

a courageous battle with brain cancer. Susan was predeceased by her parents Elton

Lounsbury and Joyce (née Gill) and leaves behind her son Christian Shoebridge

(Andrea) of Kitchener and daughter Colly Shoebridge (Tracer) of CFB Borden.

Dear friend to Holly, Karen, Paul, Heather and Elizabeth and many others. Susan

will be remembered for her love of birds, optimistic outlook, kindness and her

giving nature. At Susan's request no visitation will occur, with private cremation

ALLEGANY - LYNN A. LOUNSBURY, formerly a longtime resident of the West Five Mile Road died Thursday (Aug.

23, 2012) in the Latta Road Nursing Home in Greece after a long illness.

Born Sept. 30, 1932, in Humphrey he was the son of Albert and Gertrude Senear

Lounsbury. On Sept. 4, 1954, in Allegany, he married Mary Ann O'Donnell who survives.

Mr. Lounsbury was a 1951 graduate of Ellicottville Central School and had been employed

by Dresser Rand Co. for 38 years, first as a machinist and later as a quality control inspector,

retiring in 1995. He then worked as a crossing guard for Allegany Central School.

He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Allegany and also was

a life member of the Allegany Fire Department for over 40 years. He held several positions,

including captain of fire police and vice chairman of the Fire Commissioners. In 2001 he was

awarded Volunteer Firefighter of the year, which was presented by the Olean Exchange Club.

He loved his garden, taking care of his lawn and puttering around the house.

Surviving besides his wife are four children, Richard (Lori) Lounsbury of Lebanon,

N.H., Ronald (Janet) Lounsbury of Hyde Park, Rebecca (Donald) Flanders of Galway and

Rhonda (John) Prey of Brockport; eight grandchildren, whom he affectionately referred to as either "buckwheat" or

"bum," Ryan Lounsbury, Sarah Lounsbury, Nicole Lounsbury, Troy Lounsbury, Derek Flanders, Zachary Flanders,

Morgan Prey and Mackenzie Prey; one brother, Harold Lounsbury of Humphrey; one sister, Betty Jane (Neel) Ditcher of

Great Valley; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Dale Lounsbury, who died in infancy, and Robert Lounsbury.

RONALD CLIFFORD LOUNSBURY, 75, passed away at his home in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., on Nov. 17, 2012. He

was born on Dec. 12, 1936, in Chicago, Ill., to Clifford and Mable Lounsbury.

Ron grew up in Indianapolis, Ind., and graduated from Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis. He joined the

U.S. Air Force in 1956 and made the military his career for 28 years. He retired in 1984 as an Aerospace Control Warning

Systems Technician.

Ron married Margaret Brightwell in 2002. He was a member of the Royal Moose Lodge #2193. He loved cars

including antique cars, many kinds of music, and was a tireless traveler.

Ron is survived by his children, Debbie Fillinich of Chevy Chase, Md., Donna Parrucci of Hagerstown, Md., and

Diane Snoots of New Market, Md.; half-brother, Robert Lounsbury of Stoddard, N.H.; and grandchildren, Sean Fillinich

of Washington, D.C., Kevin Fillinich of Chevy Chase, David Fillinich of Chevy Chase, Brian Parrucci of Crofton, Md.,

Angela Parrucci of Hagerstown, Md., and Christopher Whary of Lakeland, Fla.; and one great-grandchild, Zoey Whary of

HANNA CITY - Gerald R. "Goose" Lounsberry, 73, of Hanna City passed away at 7:05 a.m.

Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at home.

He was born April 27, 1939, in Havana, Ill., to Raymond and Launa (Rafferty)

Lounsberry. He married Sandra Orwig on Oct. 15, 1966, in Brimfield. She preceded him in

death, in 1987. He then married Irene Raffety on Sept. 5, 1987, in Hanna City. She survives.

Also surviving are two children, Kendra (David) Wing of Bolingbrook, Ill., and Kraig

(Debbie) Lounsberry of Pawnee, Ill.; two step-children, Ronald (Debbie) Workman of

Barrington, Ill., and Tena (Dennis) McNamara of Brimfield; 12 grandchildren; seven great-

grandchildren; a brother, Jim (Marilyn) Lounsberry of Sequim, Wash.; and three sisters, Mae

Haney and Sharon (Larry) Davis, both of Hanna City and Debbie Inman of Farmington.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a stepdaughter, Marty DeVries; and a

sister, Marilyn Miller.

"Goose" was a drill-press operator at International Harvester in Canton for 25 years and

then transferred to Ohio with Navistar for five years, retiring in 1989 with 30 years of service.

He then worked for the Village of Hanna City, retiring in 2010. Editor's Note: No information, other than what is

MICHAEL GEORGE “MIKE” LOUNSBERY, 48, a resident of Gladstone, MO passed away on Thursday, November

15, 2012 at the NorthCare Hospice House. Michael was born February 18, 1964 to Mary (Sindt) and Robert Lounsbery in

Kansas City, MO.

Mike worked at UPS Freight as a trailer mechanic. He was an active member

and regularly attended services at Linden Baptist Church; he was also very active in

Carpenters for Christ.

He was preceded in death by a son, Brad Michael Lounsbery. He is survived

by his wife, Kim (Nance) Lounsbery of the home; two daughters, Sarah Czajkoski

and husband, Joshua of Kansas City (North), MO and Hannah Lounsbery of

Gladstone, MO; parents, Robert and Mary Lounsbery of Gallatin, MO; a brother,

James Lounsbery of Peculiar, MO; three sisters, Laura Habighorst and husband, Hans

of Kansas City, KS, Lynn Bradberry and husband, Doug of Gladstone, MO and

Karen Blankenship and husband, Robert of Liberty, MO; numerous nieces and

nephews.

The body will lie-in-state and friends may call from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.,

Saturday, November 17th, 2012 at Meyers Northland Chapel Northland in Parkville.

The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 19, 2012 at

Linden Baptist Church 611 NE 69th St. Gladstone, MO 64118, with Sr. Pastor, Terry Webster and Associate Pastor,

Stephen Mattingly officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection North Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made

DAREL R. LOUNSBURY, age 88, of Paynesville, died on Friday, November 23, 2012, at the Paynesville Area Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at Nordland

Lutheran Church, rural Paynesville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on

Tuesday, November 27, 2012, from 5-8:00 pm at Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville and continue for

one hour prior to the service at the church.

Darel Ranney Lounsbury was born on December 9, 1923, on the family farm in Union Grove

Township. He was one of 13 children born to Russell and Carol (Ranney) Lounsbury. He grew up on the

family farm where he graduated from a country grade school. In 1944, Darel entered the United States

Army. He served with the 25th Division 35th Infantry in the Philippines. In 1946, Darel was honorably

discharged from the Army and returned home to farm.

On December 6, 1947 Darel was united in marriage to Ruth Layman at Richfield Lutheran Church. This union

was blessed with three daughters and a son. The family made their home in Union Grove Township, rural Paynesville

where Darel farmed and milked cows. He continued farming until 1984 when he retired. After his retirement, he

continued to live on the farm and help his daughter and son-in-law with their farm. On November 25, 1993, Ruth passed

away, they shared 45 years of marriage. In 2007, Darel moved into Paynesville where he lived until his death.

Darel was a member of Nordland Lutheran Church, rural Paynesville. He was a member of the Eden Valley American

Legion for over 60 years, NFO, Manannah Sno-Blazers, and Manannah Cemetery Board. Darel loved playing the

accordion. He would go to the Good Samaritan Home once a week to play for the residents for many years. He also

enjoyed fishing, bowling, snowmobiling, dancing, camping, and following the Vikings and Twins. He loved his family

and his grandchildren will never forget all the time he spent with them. He will be remembered for being kind, gentle,

patient and a man very slow to anger.

Darel R. Lounsbury died on Friday, November 23, 2012, at the Paynesville Area Hospital at the age of 88. He is

survived by his daughters, Gretchen (Jim) Beach of Spokane Valley, WA; and Karen (Jeff) Roos of Paynesville;

grandchildren, Brian (Lindsey) Roos of Brainerd, Tanya (Derrick) Beach-Green of Spokane, WA, Matthew (Kathryn)

Beach enlisted in the US Navy; great grandchildren, Gavin and Finley Beach. He is also survived by his siblings, Floris

Mickley of Petaluma, CA, Mabel (Frank) Lahr of Paynesville, Dewey Lounsbury of Litchfield, Rolland (Geraldine)

Lounsbury of St. Maries, ID, Daniel (Connie) Lounsbury of Monticello, Donna Burr of Litchfield, and Lucy (Richard)

Urdahl of Litchfield; many nieces and nephews.

Darel was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ruth; son, Daniel; daughter, Julie; grandson, Matthew Roos;

brother, Robert; sisters, Lyla, Leila, Jane, Doratha.

ARTHUR "ART" JAMES LOUNSBURY 85, of Tucson, passed away November 20, 2012. Art was born in Elmhurst,

IL, son of the late Harvey J. and Margaret (Vandercook) Lounsbury. He relocated here from Glen

Ellyn, IL in 1950. He was employed by Mountain States Mineral Engineering Co. His interests

included camping and traveling with his family. Art is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna Lee

(Powell) Lounsbury and sons, James L. and Michael A. Lounsbury, all of Tucson. He also leaves a

sister, Edith Van de Roovaart and was predeceased by a sister, Gertrude Hoyt and a brother, Robert

Lounsbury. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 30, 2012 at Our

Saviour's Lutheran Church, with Pastor Marilyn Ascarza officiating. Flowers may be sent to the
