WELCOME to everyone, especially our guests.

Your presence is important to us.

St. Paul’s is an evangelical Christian

congregation, embracing historic Christian

teaching on all doctrines, centered on Jesus

Christ. Our desire is to bring the Gospel both

to those who are searching for answers to the

meaning of life and to those who desire a

closer relationship with God. We here at St.

Paul's have chosen to align ourselves with the

teachings of the Lutheran Reformation, due

to the clarity with which these help us to see

the true meaning of God's Word.

Specifically, St. Paul's is a ministry of the

Lutheran Church -- Missouri Synod, one of

America's truly biblical churches!

• Members and guests: please fill out an

attendance card and place it in the

offering plate to indicate your presence

today. For Holy Communion, please read

our confession and indicate your

agreement with our beliefs by checking

the box next to the names of those

communing.

• Those sharing our beliefs, especially from

parishes in fellowship with us, are

welcome to receive.

• If you desire Holy Communion but hold a

confession differing from that of this

congregation, please speak with a Pastor

or an Elder.

• Non-communing, baptized children are

welcome to come to the table for a

blessing.

Please note: Half the inner circle of individual

glasses in each tray contains water with one

drop of communion wine for those hesitant to

drink larger amounts of wine. Those glasses

with wine are rose in color. 2

MARCH CARING CORNER We are requesting daily use items which will help out St. Paul's Church, School, Kinder

Place and Extended Care. Please take a tag or two from the Caring Corner bulletin boards

(in the narthex of the church and outside of the gym doors). Or read the full list of items

needed on the boards. It's a big help to get the many little items that are used daily-

markers, paper, wipes, etc. Thanks so much!

WHAT IS STEPHEN MINISTRY?

Stephen Ministry is lay caring ministry. Stephen Ministers are not counselors or therapists; rather, they are caring Christian friends who can offer a listening ear to help others through the tough times in life. Stephen Ministers are trained and supervised in their ministry. If you’d like to learn more about this ministry, contact Pastor Ronald Krug or one of our Stephen Leaders: Duane Peterson, Jeff Stache, Kevin Osterndorf, and Steve Hansen.

EASTER BREAKFAST SIGN-UP SHEETS Easter Breakfast sign-up sheets are in the Narthex. This years breakfast will feature a slightly new menu, and some sweet surprises. We hope you can help support our youth in their efforts as they continue to raise funds for the National Youth Gathering this July. LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH YEARLIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH YEARLIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH YEARLIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH YEAR The essence of sin is idolatry, a failure to trust in God and His ways. When tempted to do evil,

we can trust that God is faithful and will provide “the way of escape” (1 Corinthians 10:13). He

proved His faithfulness to us on the cross. We can trust in that faithfulness and make choices

pleasing to Him. Prayer: Holy Spirit, give us such faith that we may trust in Your faithfulness,

especially during times of difficulty and distress.

Celebrating 150 years…God’s Grace from Generation to Generation. For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to generations.

~Psalm 100:5 Imagine what life was like in 1865. President Lincoln celebrated the inauguration of his 2nd term in the White House but was assassinated just a few months later. The country was just coming out of the Civil War. National Freedom Day was established with the passing of the 13th Amendment to our Constitution. In Europe, there was strong tension between Germany, Prussia and Austria over an attempt to create a liberal German nation-state. Many Germans continued to immigrate to America. In Oconomowoc, a tract of land and a house on Fowler Lake was purchased to serve as the first church of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Congregation. Yes, that was almost 150 years ago! In 2015, St. Paul’s will be celebrating its 150th Anniversary. The celebration will occur over the entire year, from the Epiphany season in January to the Reformation in October. However, no celebration of this feat can be accomplished without plenty of planning and assistance from volunteers. We need people for the following committees:

Worship & Spiritual Events Committee (including music and drama) Communications Committee Historical Committee Memorabilia Committee Special Events Committees – School, Church and Community Finance and Investments Committee

Would you be interested in helping with the planning of this remarkable occasion? If yes, please contact Cheri Ware ([email protected]) or Sara Junio ([email protected]).

“Living as Stewards” Continues this week!

Stewards Living a God-Pleasing Life is a time of growth and commitment in

which the people of God celebrate His gifts and grow in the joy of giving and

serving

Each Saturday and Sunday until March 17th we will:

• Celebrate one of the ministries here at St. Paul’s Oconomowoc in which faithful

stewards use their gifts in the service of God and His people. This week we

celebrate the Christian Day School.

• Hear the witness of one of our members who shares (his/her) faith/stewardship

journey.

• Study the Scriptures each week using home daily devotions or Bible studies

supplied by the program. The theme for the daily devotions this week is “Discipline

is the Path” – which is the theme for the weekend services next week. A daily

devotion booklet is available for your family as you leave today’s service.

Theme for this weekends’ services is ”Faith is the Foundation”

Consecration Weekend is March 16th and 17th. If you know you will be out of town,

starting later in March – commitment cards will be available from the elders. You can place

them in the offering plate or return them to the church office. Every attendee and member

who completes a Response Card does so voluntarily by attending worship on Consecration

Weekend. We urge people to attend who feel strongly opposed to completing a card. The

procedure is done in such a way that no one feels personal embarrassment if he or she

chooses not to fill out a card.

Board Nominations

The Nominating Committee of St. Paul’s is accepting recommendations for individuals that could serve on a particular Ministry Board. We have the following positions open:

Assistant Executive Director (2) Christian Growth Board Director Early Childhood Board Director Christian Growth Board Members Early Childhood Board Members Church Properties Board Members Elders Board Members Stewardship Board Members Evangelism Board Members Service & Mission Outreach Board Members Christian Education Board Members Service & Mission Outreach Board Director Youth Board Director Youth Board Members

Please prayerfully consider joining a board and serving a ministry. It’s very exciting!

Time to Grow Bible Studies

Spring session April 3rd

-May 15th

Registration is due by Wednesday, March 20

Every Christian can benefit from continued study in God’s Word. Time to Grow is our offering of

classes on Wednesday nights for the whole family. Through Bible study, the Holy Spirit works to

build up our faith as we continue to grow and understand God’s Holy Word. We have a meal

available in the fellowship hall starting at 5pm and it’s served until 6pm. The cost is adults $4.00,

5-12 is $3.00 and 4 and under is free. At 6:00 pm we gather in the church for a time of devotion

and singing before we are dismissed to our classes at until 6:20 pm. The children then go to their

own age appropriate classrooms to study the bible through story, crafts, games and music. The

adults have a variety of classes they can choose from at the same time. Our evening ends at 7:20

pm. There is a nursery available for children under 3 .

Unglued (Women’s Study) Led by Sara Benes and Angie Scharnell in Room #205

A participant’s guide will be provided, the cost is $6.00. Please pay this the first night of study.

God gave us emotions to experience life, not destroy it! Lysa TerKeurst admits that she, like most

women, has had experiences where others bump into her happy and she comes emotionally

unglued. We stuff, we explode, or we react somewhere in between. What do we do with these

raw emotions? Is it really possible to make emotions work for us instead of against us? Yes, and

in her usual inspiring and practical way, Lysa will show you how. Filled with gut-honest personal

examples and biblical teaching, Unglued will equip you to: Know with confidence how to resolve

conflict in your important relationships. Find peace in your most difficult relationships as you

learn to be honest but kind when offended. Identify what type of reactor you are and how to

significantly improve your communication. Respond with no regrets by managing your

tendencies to stuff, explode, or react somewhere in between. Gain a deep sense of calm by

responding to situations out of your control without acting out of control.

Introduction to the Bible Led by Vicar Steve Scharnell in Room #204

A basic foundational Bible study to introduce people to the layout of the Bible and its popular

Bible stories.

Grade in the Fall

St. Paul’s, needs you! You may be thinking, “What could I possibly do to serve?” St. Paul’s is

your spiritual home and without your help we will suffer. God’s Word tells us, “Now you are the

body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it” (1 Corinthians 12:27). All of us, who have been

gifted with faith, are given gifts and talents to serve one another. This is your opportunity and

call to service - as acolytes!

THIRD SUNDAY IN LENT

Ezekiel 33:7–20 (ESV) “So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. If I say to the wicked, O wicked one, you shall surely die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, that person shall die in his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul. “And you, son of man, say to the house of Israel, Thus have you said: ‘Surely our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we rot away because of them. How then can we live?’ Say to them, As I live, declares the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel? “And you, son of man, say to your people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him when he transgresses, and as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall by it when he turns from his wickedness, and the righteous shall not be able to live by his righteousness when he sins. Though I say to the righteous that he shall surely live, yet if he trusts in his righteousness and does injustice, none of his righteous deeds shall be remembered, but in his injustice that he has done he shall die. Again, though I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ yet if he turns from his sin and does what is just and right, if the wicked restores the pledge, gives back what he has taken by robbery, and walks in the statutes of life, not doing injustice, he shall surely live; he shall not die. None of the sins that he has committed shall be remembered against him. He has done what is just and right; he shall surely live. “Yet your people say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just,’ when it is their own way that is not just. When the righteous turns from his righteousness and does injustice, he shall die for it. And when the wicked turns from his wickedness and does what is just and right, he shall live by them. Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ O house of Israel, I will judge each of you according to his ways.”

1 Corinthians 10:1–13 (ESV) I want you to know, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ. Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did. Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.” We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day. We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer. Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come. Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the

way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Luke 13:1–9 (ESV) There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And he answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” And he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground?’ And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.’”
