SPORTS MASSAGENOT JUST FOR THE SPORTY

It’s true – Sports Massage is for all yourmuscular aches and pains – and it’s foranyone.Approximately 75% of the people I treat

haven’t been near a sporting event and somehaven’t taken part in sports since they were atschool, but they all benefit from a sportsmassage.Sports massage refers to the style of

treatment – often thought of as a deep tissuemassage, which it is and often thought of aspainful – which it isn’t !!!That’s not to say that I don’t treat sportsmen

and women of all ages – I most certainly do,but most of my clients are non sporty, hardworking or retired men and women thatneed some extra TLC for those niggling andnot so niggling aches and pains, that spoil yourday and either prevent or slow you down fromtaking part in your day to day activities. If this sounds like you or someone you

know, then perhaps a massage is just what isneeded! See advert below.

FEETFungal in the JungleFungal nails (onychomycosis) can start verydiscreetly and usually start at the top of thenail with no serious symptoms. At first thecondition can spread causing discolouration(it may look white, black, yellow or green orjust a horrible manky colour) thickening anddistorting the nail. It may become an unusualshape or texture and impossible to trim. Itmay become brittle and crumbly which mayjust fall apart. Nearby skin can be infectedand be itchy, cracked or swollen. It may evenbecome painful or uncomfortable in wintershoes. Now the darker months are here andyour feet are not on public display now is thetime to act. There is no miracle cure and itcan take many months of self treatment.

The fungus actually lives in the nail bed, yournail is just a wall to protect it and it becomesinfected just because it’s there. You can getover the counter fungal medication £20 a gobut if the nail is thick it has to penetratethrough a brick wall to get to the source i.e.the nail bed and after 4 treatments (£80+)you will be giving it up as a lost cause.

SO WHERE DO WE COME IN?

1: Ascertain if it is actually fungal. 2: Preparethe nail(s) painlessly removing the debris andreducing the thickness but most importantlygive sound professional advice and togetherget them back to normal ready for Bitteswellbeach!

Don’t ignore it! It won’t grow out or disappear.

A Life in PicturesOn the wall of my office I have a holographic picturewith various images of London which, as you moveyour head, suggests the images are in 3D and real. Soif you move your head too quickly you might need toget out of the way of a swerving red London bus! Ofcourse the bus isn’t real or moving, but the perceptionof what is really happening in one part of your brain isbeing challenged by the perception in another. However, recognising that it’s only an optical illusionand the bus isn’t real or moving, you sit on my sofaand smile at the very idea that you could ever havebeen fooled into thinking that you might have been inany danger. Now imagine living in an area of the world prone to

earthquakes and the first earthquake you experiencedwas a very powerful one. Perhaps you were very youngand feeling safe and relaxed as you were in yourbedroom looking at a picture on the wall of your favouritepop star or footballer. Then the picture moved veryslightly and there was a loud bang immediately followedby lots of screaming and shouting and you were beingyelled at by people who normally provided you withcomfort and reassurance now running around in panicthemselves and with a dreadful fear in their eyes. Onemoment you were enjoying feeling safe and secure, thenext you were caught up in a situation you could notcomprehend, feeling lost, terrified and helpless. In both scenarios you were relaxed and enjoying

looking at a picture. But the impact on how your brainwill respond in future when confronted with having toinstantly decide what’s actually going on around youwhen a picture moves and what it needs to do to protectyou, will be heavily influenced by what happened next. Ifyou’ve ever had an ‘earthquake’ type experience (e.g.unexpected; intense; shocking; chaotic; feeling helplessetc) there’s a high possibility that your brain will reactagain as it did then whenever it interprets the picture ofwhat it sees going on in your life right now as beingsimilar in any way to what happened previously, becausehow you responded kept you alive and that responsedeepens the more times the brain ‘sees’ the threat it sawthen, responds the same way and you survive. Some people don’t like reading ‘thrillers’ or watching

‘scary’ movies because their imaginations producealmost the same reaction as if they were actually reallyexperiencing the situation. Of course, it’s very useful toknow the difference between being in a situation or justreading about it or watching a movie or when a picturemoving on the wall means imminent danger or whenyou’re being ‘fooled’ by what appears real. But it’s evenmore useful when you can trust that you will readilyrecognise the difference and respond appropriately andproportionately, so you can relax and enjoy life. Which iswhy I suspect, many people happily live in parts of theworld prone to unexpected earthquakes, but hangpictures on their walls, read thrillers and watch scarymovies. To explore how hypnotherapy may be able to help you

Talking Computers

ARE YOU OVER USING YOUR PASSWORD?

You’re not alone! Most people use thesame password everywhere – home, work, Gmail, Facebook… even forbanking. Research shows that 73% ofaccounts use duplicate passwords.Considering how many passwords we’re

expected to remember and use on a dailybasis, it’s no wonder that when anotherprompt for a password appears, peopleenter easily guessed combinations like‘abcd’ or ‘password’.The problem is that hackers know that

more than half the internet users in theworld have only one password and emailcombination, so the chance of gainingaccess to your accounts is actually quitehigh. That’s why hackers are taking a dailystroll around the internet and collectinglogins and passwords as they go, fromeither leaked details or sites with securityflaws. Then, they’ll try their luck with that

login/password elsewhere. Even the bignames are at risk of password breaches, such as Linkedin and the recent TalkTalkproblems. The only way to break this chain is to use

a different password for each site.Have a system for creating your own

unique passwords that you’ll be able toremember, but is not obvious to hackers. For example think of some words (but nota name) and replace some letters withnumbers. An example is !K1ttyFB75! - it might

seem complicated, but it is really justbased around the words ‘kitty’ and ‘FB’ forFacebook. Change the FB to somethingelse for other sites. If you need help changing your

passwords or setting up a securepassword system, give us a call on 01455209505.Please see advert below.

Are you Lying Comfortably?A very generous donation from Lutterworth company Giromax has enabled the MasharaniPractice to purchase 5 electric couches. Elderly and disabled patients find it difficult to get onthe standard medical couches when they need to be examined by the doctor. Having electricheight adjustable couches means that they can be lowered to allow patients to easily transfer on

to them and then can be raised to the correctheight to enable the examination orprocedure to be carried out by the doctor. Giromax is the UK and European supplier

of corrosion resistant coatings available for therefurbishment of commercial roofing andcladding.

Motoring Matters!

YOUR CAR BATTERYWith growing EU legal requirements on vehicle manufacturers to reduce CO2 exhaust emissions, an increasing number of vehicles are being fitted withStart-Stop technology, hybrid systems, Alternator Energy Management andBrake Energy Recuperation technology. In order to support these technologiesand emissions savings, your vehicle battery has also had to have a makeover.Maintenance free batteries have been around now for some years but if yourvehicle has any of the features mentioned previously, it is essential yourreplacement battery is compatible and will support all of your vehicles modernand sophisticated systemsIf a standard flooded battery is fitted to a Start-Stop vehicle, it will most definitelyfail very early. Depending on driving patterns, failure could be within 2-4 months ofinstallation. This type of battery failure will lead to loss of vehicle functions(including Start-Stop). Modern vehicles require a battery that can withstand theextra stresses and strains of a modern vehicle. The battery is a lead-acid storage design. In short, it's an electrochemical devicethat converts chemical energy into electrical energy. When the battery is placedunder a load, such as when the ignition is switched on, the device converts storedchemicals into electricity and the current flows through the wires to its destination.Below are a few tips to help keep your battery in good working order• Drive your vehicle regularly - Driving your vehicle regularly keeps the batterywell charged. If you know your car will be standing for a few weeks, arrange forsomeone to start it for you once or twice a week. If the car is left running for a fewminutes a week, it will maintain battery charge. If there is no-one around to help,it’s best to disconnect your battery before going away.• Service according to the manufacturer’s schedule - If your engine isn’t workingas it should, the battery will work harder and its life will be reduced.• Check the charging rate - Under and over-charging the battery will reduce its life. Most garages will offer this service and normally free of charge.• Avoid leaving car lights and accessories on for long periods without theengine running - Leaving accessories running while a car is stationary willdischarge the battery. Although this can be rectified by recharging the battery, constantly doing this may shorten its life.• Keep the battery properly secured in the engine bay - Check that your batteryis secure at all times. Vibrations can shake it loose and cause damage to the batteryplates. Vibrations can also loosen terminals bringing journeys to an abrupt halt.• Never try to jump-start a flat battery - Modern cars are packed with electronicwizardry, just waiting to be blown into oblivion by a careless connection. That’sbecause jump-starting a flat battery can send excessive current into the systemand damage the electronics. If you can’t avoid a jump-start, at least ensure thatyour headlights are switched on before you make the attempt. This will help avoidelectrical surges. Refer to your vehicle’s manual for recommendations on how tojump-start your car, because it can differ from vehicle to vehicle.• Park inside a garage in winter - Parking inside a garage where it’s warmer, protects the battery from extreme cold, which shortens its lifespan.• Cut down on short trips - Frequent trips of less than 20 minutes don’t give yourbattery enough time to charge. In doing so, they help drain it faster.• Replace your car battery every 3 to 4 years - On average a battery can last upto four years, but it all depends on your driving conditions, habits and the weather. If your vehicle is 4 years or older, get your battery checked over. For any further help or advice why not get in touch with us at Hammond

WYCLIFFE LUTTERWORTH U3ALife in the Music

An entertaining and relaxing morning wasenjoyed by U3A members in October whogave enthusiastic support to this talentedraconteur. Andy Smith not only played avariety of guitars, but was equally engagingwith a mandolin and ukulele. Through songs, composed by himself and

witty, often amusing lyrics, he painted apicture of his development from babyhood tomarriage and family life. He interspersed hisown rhythmic verses with well known songsand choruses, in which all could participate.Having been born in Lincoln, he began his

musical career with other young musicianstouring youth clubs, pubs and bars. Hismother became his manager in those earlyyears as none of the group could drive! He leftschool in 1976 to work in the NatWest Bank, but eventually formed his own company. His collection of guitars is impressive from

acoustic to the 4 stringed tenor guitar to hisblack, curved back guitar. Not only is he atalented singer/composer, but he has manycompilations on CDs, profits from which go tosupport Macmillan and Cystic Fibrosis. Thank you Andy for bringing many a smile

to the meeting.

Broughton Astley WI hosted the annual meeting of the Wycliffe Group of WIs,comprising ourselves, Leire, Ullesthorpe, Dunton Bassett and Bitteswell WIs. We had amusical theme and were entertained by Mark Bennett and his recorder group with a singer andtrumpeter who played a lovely selection of songs from the shows. The competition was a ‘scenefrom a musical’ and each WI put in a very artistic entry - the judge awarded first prize to LeireWI with their depiction of ‘Oklahoma’.The guests at our October meeting were Bob and Dell Neill, who brought along bits and bobs

for us to guess what they were. The items ranged from a gauffering iron to a travelling hair tongheater; a wig holder and wig powder shaker to a sock darner; a wooden organ pipe to a spill makerto name but a few. The winning team guessed 12 items out of 20 - it was quite a challenge! We allagreed that it was an interesting and fun evening which took some of us back to recognising things

from our grandmothers’ homes or childhood.New members are always made welcome atour meetings, for more information contactFran Marsland on 01455 282118.

Leicestershire Speakers Frankenstein, Boston TeaParty & HeroWe were treated to three superb speeches inOctober. All three although of a seriousnature were superbly delivered. We heardfrom Bev Capewell about the tumultuous lifeof Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein. John Baron’s speech covered the background

to the Boston Tea Party. John gave a detailedaccount of the tax levied on tea and theunscrupulous profiteering enabled by themonopoly on tea imports. Ann Dixon’s speechentitled “Who is the Hero” concerned theremarkable Malala Yousafzai who had thecourage to defend the right for the education ofwomen and was fortunate to survive a cowardlyattack by the Taliban.Margaret Barrett chose the education slot to

give advice on how to start and conclude aspeech. As per usual Margaret’s advice wasinformative and peppered with her delightfulhumour. Topics this month were led by Wyn Glen.

After coffee we resumed our seats and found apackage. The object within was to be used as avisual aid and in some cases the speaker or theaudience had the slightest idea of what theobject was or indeed, its purpose. This was avery entertaining exercise creating a great dealof laughter.Leicestershire Speakers welcome anyone who

would like to learn the art of speaking in public. Our meetings are supportive, informative andentertaining, helping to turn nervous wrecksinto confident speakers. We meet at 7.30pm onthe second Wednesday of each month at theBlaby Drop in Centre. For more information, ring Anne Jones on

Lutterworth Townswomens’ GuildAt the October meeting it was shocking that only one member had heardof a wonderful charity called Remap. Even more shocking was to be told byBrian and Martin from Remap that the charity is 50 years old, its sole aimis to make or adapt equipment free of charge for people with disabilities tomake their everyday lives easier. Most of its volunteers are retired engineers who work in their own sheds

and garages using their wealth of knowledge and expertise. Memberswatched a short heart warming film of a few of the projects made over theyears, like the bicycle adapted so that the little girl who was paralyzed couldride the bike using her hands or the lady who after a stroke could no longerknit until Remap made a knitting device or the long handled device madeso that an elderly lady could switch her gas fire on. Car seats have also been adapted to allow mums in wheelchairs to carry

their baby on their laps. The list goes on and on and sometimes the answerto a problem is sometimes easy, sometimes more difficult but Remap don'tgive up easily. Take a look at the website of this inspiring charity and givethem a call if you know of someone with a problem. New members are always welcome to join our guild so take a look at our

BLOODWISE - BEATING BLOOD CANCERS SINCE 1960If you have been told you have non-Hodgkin Lymphoma or Acute Myeloid Leukaemia it can be very frightening. These are just two of the 137 differenttypes of blood cancers that Bloodwise researchers are working on to get a better understanding and prevent them occurring in the first place or curethem so patients have a better future. We have free booklets in our two shops to help you get a better understanding of these cancers.Scientists funded by Bloodwise at the University of Glasgow have made a second significant breakthrough in the treatment of Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia

– using precision medicine to kill more than 90% of Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) stem cells in laboratory tests. The results are published today in thehigh impact Journal Cancer Discovery.Diana Jupp, Director of Patient Experience at Bloodwise said, “In recent years, thanks to research, this once usually fatal Leukaemia has been transformed

into a manageable condition for most patients”.As always your donations and gifts are needed so our researchers can continue their vital work. The progress that has been made since Leukaemia and

Lymphoma research started 52 years ago could not have happened without the generosity of the public. Leicester University works hard on research as well asmany more around the country. As well as bringing your unwanted items to the shops and purchasing from our shops which we are extremely grateful for, we hold fundraising events

throughout the year to which everybody is welcome, we love to see new people,so if you are interested please pop into one of the two shops. Would you like to volunteer? We have positions in the shops and sorting

Vacuum cleaners have changed a lot over the years. From the old Hoover Junior in the 80's to the first Dyson bagless in themid 90's, they have improved with suction and usability but the latest generation of vacuums has hit the market. Cordless vacuum cleaners solve so many problems because you don't have to worry about having the mains

lead trailing behind you and they are a lot lighter than older cleaners. Before buying a cordless, decide how you would use the cleaner. If you are the sort of person who likes to

vacuum a room or 2 a day, then you could go for a vacuum with a shorter runtime (the time you can use thevacuum before having to recharge it). If you vacuum the whole house in one go, then a long runtime of around40 minutes and above is essential. The other main consideration is whether using the vacuum for doing the stairs or car for example is important

to you. If it is, then go for a model that has a range of tools included. Most cleaners now have good filtration andhave the ability to wash the filters which saves on maintenance costs. Some cleaners come with a wall bracketso you can wall mount it to make it easy for storage. As far as brands go, Dyson cordless are the market leaders and they are built very well. The runtime on them

varies from up to 20 minutes on the V6 range to up to 40 minutes on the flagship V8 range. They are also veryeasy to change into a handheld cleaner for cleaning the car or stairs.Other market heavyweights like the Bosch have their Athlet range that can run up to an exhausting 75 minutes.

I don't know anyone who would like to vacuum for 75 minutes but Bosch has made this possible. There are some budget vacuums on the market around the £50 - £60 mark which may serve a purpose as a secondary vacuum, but if you

want a model that performs well, then stick to brands like Dyson and Bosch. We have vacuuming experts in our branches of Lords Electrical or visit our dedicated vacuum website www.go-cordless.co.uk for

competitive prices and video demonstrations of all of our popular models. See advert right >

HEADACHESHeadaches have many causes, however manyoriginate from the neck and can be easily assessedand treated by a Chartered Physiotherapist.Medical research showed a significant reduction inthe frequency of headaches after 4 sessions ofphysiotherapy and the benefit lasted for over oneyear (the point that the sufferers we re-assessed).Arthritic changes in the joints at the top of the neck andunder the skull may lead to pain being referred across theback or top of the head, sometimes across the fore-headand into the ears or behind the eyes. There may also beclicking or grating heard on turning the head. Theseproblems are frequently aggravated by poor posture andprolonged positions e.g. typing or reading or falling asleepsitting up in a chair or on a journey. In some cases there may be dizziness especially on lookingup or turning the head quickly. If this is the case and yousometimes feel light-headed you should never have yourneck manipulated i.e. clicked. Some physiotherapists are trained to perform acupuncture. This can be very effective in the treatment of headachesand migraines. If you visit a Chartered Physiotherapistthey will be able to give you advice on the management ofthe cause of the pain and not just the symptoms. Special exercises can be taught to stretch and off load thestructures under the skull to prevent the headachesreturning in the future. To see a Chartered Physiotherapist privately you do notneed to be referred by your doctor.

LEIRE W.I.Leire W.I. welcomed Denise Taylor, whofor 10 years, with the help of herhusband John has worked tirelessly andraised over £300,000 for the MedicalDetection Dogs.

This is an amazing charity which is basednear Milton Keyes and was founded in 2008by Dr Claire Guest, who was the trainingdirector of the first study to identify cancerusing dogs in 2003.

A dog’s sense of smell is 100,000 timesgreater than the human smell. Dr Guest andher team discovered that cancer cellsproduce minute particles which are excretedin the patient’s urine and a dog can be trainedto recognize the odour.

This offers potential to detect illnessesmuch earlier pioneering the way to speedingup the diagnosis and saving thousands of lives.Prostate cancer was the first to be studied andthe results were 97% accurate.

The dogs used are usually gun dogs andcome from a variety of sources includingRescue Dog Centres. They are now exploringthe possibilities that dogs can detect otherdiseases such as lung and pancreatic cancer,Parkinson’s disease and Malaria.

MDD are also carrying out the first proof ofa study that breast cancer can be detectedusing a sample of breath from the patient.

The Duchess of Cornwall is now the Patronof this remarkable charity. She recently invitedleading Consultants from the MedicalProfession to a lunch at St James Palace andthe Medical Detection Team was able todemonstrate the dogs in action.

There was a positive outcome as oneProstate Cancer Consultant requested to testhis patients, with a doubtful diagnosis, usingthe MD Dogs. A specimen of urine is all thatis required from the patient.

How much time and money could be savedin the NHS if all parties could make theMedical Detection Dogs operational withinthe Health Service.

Designer’s Edit ~ Autumn has arrivedAutumn is the time for warm, rich and cosy colours. From hues of rich warm chocolate browns todeep burnt cosy oranges, with a faux fur throw to snuggle up to on that drizzly night. Beth Ert,designer at Broughton House Interiors tells us how to achieve this Autumn look.

Shades of Grey… This year’s neutral colour comes in from a palette of cold morning greys, silvered branches, wisps

of wood smoke and frosty window pane. Layer up dark smoky hues of greys with warm French grey’sto add interest and warmth into the room. Scatter back corner units are perfect for layering up coloursand textured fabrics this Autumn.

Keeping in Check… Whether your home is a town house or a country house adding touches of traditional tartan is key

this Autumn. If you’re not brave enough for Harlequins Folia Inga tartan wallpaper opt for a warmrich tartan fabric for that perfect fire side occasional chair.

Sisal Rugs… Intricate and fabulous, sisal is the

toughest natural fibre flooring and fitsperfectly as a rug, matched with abeautiful suede border bringing theoutdoors textures in. At home in frontof the fire, the sisal rug will coordinateperfectly with this year’s Autumncolour palette. View the autumn ranges at

Broughton House Interiorsshowroom in Broughton Astley. See advert below.

GILMORTON W.I. Clare Mullin, a member of the Houses of ParliamentOutreach Services, came to talk to Gilmorton ladiesabout ‘Women and the Vote’. She also tested ourknowledge of history in the last 150 years!Women’s suffrage groups started in the 1860’s but

it took until 1928 for us to get the right to vote onequal terms with the men, i.e. everyone over the ageof 21 could vote and we had our first members in theHouse of Commons. Women weren’t allowed to sit

in the House of Lords until 1958 when they becamelife peers and it took until 1979 for the first femalePrime Minister to be voted in, Margaret Thatcher. We are still a long way from achieving parity in

Parliament because so few women stand for electionbut at least we have another lady leading the countryat the moment! Our November meeting is on Wednesday 2nd in

BITTESWELL W.I.Bitteswell W.I. has had a very busy time since our lovely summergarden party in August, which was followed by the Septemberspeaker, Ian Rogerson, telling us about his experiences inbutchery, especially concerning turkey & chicken preparation &sales. He was very informative & as always quite hilarious. Theturkey buns went down well with the refreshments afterwards. The October talk by Suzanne Felstead was about ‘Living with a

Neurotic Cat’ which, with audience participation, was full of usefulhints but whilst rather gory in parts, it was also very amusing.Eighteen members attended the group meeting & enjoyed the

entertainment & friendly social at Broughton Astley. The skittles &darts groups had likewise had fun taking part in their games. Thewell attended monthly craft meetings have produced super itemsespecially the cuddly teddy bears! The Christmas party will soon be upon us & members are visiting

the theatre in the New Year. Our next meeting is the AGM on 8thNovember. New members have joined lately & everyone is welcome

Calling all Veterans! South Leicestershire’s Veterans Breakfast Club needs you!The Veteran breakfast clubs are a national scheme aimed at connecting serving and former membersof the Armed Forces within their local community. The breakfast meets are completely informal andoffer a chance to catch up on the social side of the forces lifestyle and camaraderie which many oftenmiss after leaving their military careers behind. At our first breakfast meet in September we had over 20 veterans of all ages and from all three services

come along for a brew and a catch up. There are over 150 branches of the breakfast clubs dotted aroundthe UK, however until September; Leicestershire as a county didn’t have one.

These informal meets can offer such huge benefits to those whoattend them, particularly for those who may have lost touch withtheir old service pals. This was the case for my personal friends DougBowen (85) and Norman Hayward (92), for whom the breakfastsoffer a valuable opportunity to reminisce about the elements of service life and friends that they miss. The concept is simple and there are no ‘subs’ or membership fees to pay. You simply turn up on the day, buy your

breakfast and mingle with a bunch of like-minded people and any Veterans of the WW2 conflict even get their breakfastfor free! All members of the Armed Forces community are welcome and encouraged to attend to help grow our network of local

Veterans and ensure our breakfast club is as much of a success as others around the country continue to be. The South Leicestershire Branch meets at the Fox & Tiger pub in the centre of Blaby (LE8 4DN) at 10:00hrs on the last

Saturday of each month, 26/11/2016, 28/01/2017 – No meet in December). For more information contact: Coops – 07864 388122, Facebook – search: South Leicestershire Veterans Breakfast Club,

Lutterworth Speakers Club -Victory once again!Congratulations to our team who ensured victoryfor the club for the fourth year in a row, in theArea ‘Chatterbox’ team-speaking competition. Sarah Waters, David Hanger and Eileen Fox

(pictured L to R) went to town with the theme of ‘Hare/Hair andHounds’ with all manner of fascinating references - with lots of punsand jokes - from the notorious nudity in the stage musical 'Hair' to a taleof a hairy Afghan hound jumping out of an Aston Martin. The highlightwas perhaps the rendition by Eileen Fox, complete with Elvis likeswivels and hair smoothing gestures of ‘Hound Dog’. Opposing teamsfrom Barwell and Market Harborough clubs also did extremely well andwe had a very entertaining evening.Back at the club Sarah engaged us all again with a speech about the many health promoting aspects of

lemons and Allan Rimmer gave a fascinating talk about his season running an Alpine ski chalet with his wife.We are a fun club with a serious purpose - to help people to improve their speaking skills. Update from Lutterworth PiecemakersWe met in September after our summer break. Sue Kershaw from Passion4quilting in Leicestercame to talk to us. She told us how she came to start quilting and the countries she had visited withher husband’s work. There were lots of quilts to see and also a very tempting array of goods fromher shop. A workshop on a foundation pieced table runner followed the next day. October was our AGM along with members’ sales table – always popular. November is our Christmas party with a take and taste supper and mini activities. It seems a long way off but we are now organising our own quilt show which will be in October next

year (more information will be available nearer the time).Lots of sewing to be done now in time for Christmas. Where do the months go? Keep up to date with

everything that’s going on at lutterworthpiecemakers.blogspot.co.uk We always welcome visitors so if anything is of interest to you, pop along and meet us all. That’s all for now. Di Alderman

If you are in any doubt as to whether or not you should make a Will, the team at Headleys Solicitors is here to simplify the process and answer some ofthe most commonly asked questions…Should everyone have a Will?Yes, having an up-to-date Will is essential for anyone wishing to safeguard the

interests of their family, friends or dependents. It is no longer simply a requirement forthe wealthy or elderly. When is the best time to make a Will? Many people put off making a Will, believing it is only something they need to do when

they’re old, but anyone over the age of 18 can have a Will. If someone dies withoutleaving a Will, this is called ‘Intestacy’ and can result in unintended consequencesregarding inheritance. This is often the case in second marriages or where a partner haschildren from different relationships and can cause emotional and financial distress forfamilies. How often should you update a Will?It is commonly advised to update a Will every few years, particularly if your personal

circumstances change, for example if you get divorced or remarried. Many people do notrealise that if you re-marry, your previous Will is automatically revoked. What other circumstances make Wills complicated? If you own property or investments abroad, you own a business or have agricultural

property then it is best to seek professional advice before making a Will. Complicationscan also arise if you are separated, divorced, remarried or have children from differentrelationships. Where should you keep your Will?Homemade Wills can easily get lost. If your Will is prepared by a Solicitor then they

will usually retain the original document for safekeeping and provide you with a copy foryour own records. Most Solicitors will store Wills free of charge; other institutions maymake an annual charge. It is also possible to register your Will with the National WillRegister although this is not compulsory and a charge applies. Why should you seek legal advice when making a Will?It is advisable to have a Solicitor help prepare your Will as they will have years of

professional and personal experience to ensure you make the right decision for yourcircumstances and avoid any mistakes. A Solicitor can also offer further guidance e.g.reducing inheritance tax or ring fencing assets to ensure they are passed on to futuregenerations. The specialist Wills, Administration of Estates & Elderly Client Services Team at

Headleys has extensive experience in providing timely, strategic guidance for you andyour family and Susan McCole is a member of STEP. The team works closely alongsideHeadleys’ Litigation and Family Law practitioners to ensure you receive appropriateadvice for your circumstances.
