DESCRIPTION
Hope you enjoyed!TRANSCRIPT
In this presentation you will find out interesting information on the
Maasai tribe, inhabitants of Kenya.
Here are some facts you might not have already known about this
African Tribe:
A mans wealth is measured depending on the amount of cattle
and children they have.
In the tribe every male Maasai passes through three main life
stages; boyhood, warrior-hood and elder-hood.
The Maasai do not break the ground because they believe it is sacred.
Where do the Maasai Live?
• The Tribe inhabit Northern Kenya but some also live through the Great Rift Valley and into Tanzania
• Situated to the right is a picture showing an image of Kenya and all the main cities
• The walls are made of mud and cow dung.
• Grass is used to construct the roof, the main frame for the building is wooden.
• They live in small villages made up of twenty to fifty huts. This is known as an Enkang.
• The only entrance to the hut is down a narrow passage way. An open fire is in the centre of the house and an opening is needed in the walls to allow smoke out.
• Fact- Each hut built barely reaches the height of an adult Maasai!
Maasai DietDid you know?
Did you know that one of the main foods in the Maasai Diet is milk which has been mixed with blood from there cows! When
there is a drought only the blood is used.
Apart from this there diet can also consist of meat, cows milk, beans and maize, as you can see it differs to the diet that we may
eat.
Clothing in the tribeMen wear brightly coloured sheets, these can also be called ‘blankets’. The women wear long, patterned cloth, they shave their heads, it is a tribe tradition for this to be done. They also wear colourful beads around their necks, wrists and ankles.

Ethnicity Why are the Maasai an Ethnic group?
The Maasai are an ethnic group because in their tribe the people are all of the same
race and nationality. They should all speak the same language and are likely to have
the same religion and follow a specific culture. They have certain traditions amongst themselves, as mentioned
previously, the ground is kept sacred.
Thank you for viewing my presentation on the Maasai Tribe. I hope you enjoyed it and learned many new facts about this particular group of people, from their diet and clothing to what makes them an Ethnic group!
Daily Jobs
In home there are tasks that must be done. The Maasai are particular about this. It is the women who do many of the jobs in the tribe, they collect firewood and water for cooking. They produce their own baskets, hand woven, and pieces of jewellery. The men, on the other hand, spend the day guarding the animals they own.
