Keyboard Your keyboard has 2

USB connectors. One must be connected to the computer, but the other is free to be used.

Zip Drive Place a Zip Disk in

the Zip drive with the metal plate pointing at the drive.

Zip disks hold at least 100 times more information than regular disks.

Printer Back

The USB cable must be connected from the back of the printer to your computer USB connector

Printer Controls

The Power light must be green. There should be no red lights on the controls. There should be printer cartridges in the

printer.

Printer Controls If the top light is red,

there is a paper jam. Press the Paper

Jam button to clear it.

Ink Cartridge replacement If the middle or

bottom light is red, one or more of the printer cartridges need to be changed.

Lift the cover and press the cartridge button on the control panel.

Cartridge replacement

Get a new cartridge(s) from the Education office.

Lift up the correct cover and replace the cartridge.

Printing When you click on

“print,” the Print Center icon will appear on your dock.

If you have any problems printing, click on that icon.

Printing Problems A list of printers will

appear and the status will be visible.

Often, someone has stopped the printer. If that is the case, go to the menu bar and select “Printers.”

Printer Problems If the printer has

been stopped, the start option will be available. This should cure the problem and the printer should respond.

Cd-Rom To open or close the

cd-rom, press the forward pointing arrow key on the top right of the keyboard. Make sure the monitor and keyboard are not in the way.

Finder The Finder is the

“smiley face” icon on the dock. It makes your computer’s contents visible.

You can view the contents three different ways.

Home If you click on the

“Home” icon, it will show you your files and your desktop.

Delete a file To delete a file, drag it to

the trash on the dock or press the “apple + delete” keys.

To erase it from your computer, you must go the the menu bar, select “File>Empty Trash” or press the “shift + apple + delete” keys

Modifying Your Dock Click on the “system preferences” icon

on your dock or select it under the apple menu

Click the “Dock” icon Click on the options that you want.

Computer Freezes If your program freezes, first try to force quit

the program by clicking on the apple menu and selecting “Force Quit.”

A menu of all the programs running will appear.

Select the one that has frozen and click the “Force Quit” button.

You can also press the “apple + option + escape” keys.

Shut down To shut down your

computer, go to the Apple Menu and select “Shut Down.”
