Malaysia's independence.

NATIONAL DAY ADDRESS BY

YAB DATO‟ SRI MOHD NAJIB BIN TUN ABDUL RAZAK PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA

ON 30 AUGUST 2009 (SUNDAY), 9 PM

Bismillahirahmannirrahim

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh dan salam 1Malaysia.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

1. Alhamdulillah, firstly let us all give thanks to Allah S.W.T for His blessings that tomorrow we will

celebrate our 52nd independence day with the theme 1Malaysia People First Performance Now.

2. Fifty two years ago, a group of national patriots led by YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra al-haj

successfully gained this country its independence after nearly five centuries under colonial rule. 3. The

post-independent period saw the task and responsibility of determining the direction of this great land

once held by colonists pass into the hands of its native sons.

4. With a new government bearing limited administrative experience, amidst the still-unabated

communist upheavals, a socio-economic imbalance grew and spread, reinforced by the multi-ethnicity of a young nation, hence many predicted a pending demise of Malaya. 5. Despite the predictions, we have

proven the sceptics wrong. In the five decades of our independence we have emerged among the leaders

of the developing nations. We became the first country in the world to defeat the communist uprising and

brought social justice through a sense of equal ownership within a short period of a mere two generations.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

6. What is this secret formula that drives our success? Certainly and undoubtedly, it is unity amongst our

people of various ethnicity and beliefs, based upon a philosophy that celebrates diversity as a source of

strength, rather than a point of discord that causes disunity.

7. Sadly, the passing of time has witnessed the bridge painstakingly built by our forefathers now shaken by certain quarters that attempt to disrupt the peace. They have exploited the fine lines that exist in a

multi-ethnic society, be it political, religious or social in nature, to serve their own warped agenda.

8. At this crossroads, the biggest challenge facing Malaysians is to restore this bridge and demolish the

walls that separate us. At its core, we must continue to manage success, building upon what we have

achieved by cultivating the principles we have long nurtured. Let us remember that what we now enjoy

118

might not become better, instead it could deteriorate if neglected. The proof is in the world‟s history,

where success poorly managed ends in failure.

9. It is true that success does not come easy. Hence, I must remind everyone especially the younger

generation that the good fortune we enjoy today did not come without careful planning, efficient

implementation and great sacrifice.

10. This success is the result of the great struggles, blood, sweat and tears of our heroes whether sung of

or not. It was built by our ancestors. It was defended by our security forces who were ready to give up their lives. It was nurtured by scholars and educators who strove regularly in classrooms and lecture halls.

It was enhanced by heroes of the private sector, corporate heroes, hawkers and small entrepreneurs who

tirelessly worked for prosperity. Finally, it was catalysed by the dedicated public servants.

11. Clearly, the success and prosperity of Malaysia all this while grew and developed out of the

contribution and support of people of all races, all religious beliefs, all walks of life, whether in rural or

urban areas, whether the haves or have-nots, old or young. Therefore, I wish to reaffirm that every one of

us is given equal opportunity under the Malaysian sky. The only barrier to our individual achievement is

the will to succeed, the willingness to work hard, and the courage to take risks. Ladies and Gentlemen,

12. Above all else, for over five decades Malaysia has faced numerous milestones. All of them were met

for better or for worse with a united spirit.

13. Beginning from the bitter chapter of the Bintang Tiga brutality, the monumental need to create

meaning to our independence which was gained without bloodshed, through socioeconomic bias, ethnic

discord on 13 May ‟69, the economic downturn of the 80s and the Asian economic crisis at the end of the

90s. All of these were confronted and all of these we survived. Clearly regardless of our achievements,

we cannot afford to rest upon our laurels without striving for more success.

14. With that in mind, in order to ensure a better tomorrow the government has introduced more effective

policies that will propel us forward towards becoming a developed nation. At the beginning of my

administration I had initiated the 1Malaysia concept based upon the Federal Constitution and Rukun

Negara as the foundation for the government‟s goals. We do not stop at setting a mission statement, instead we have constructed concrete initiatives. Starting with efforts to overhaul the public service

delivery system, promoting the public welfare agenda as a government priority leads to efforts to

stimulate the national economy so that continuous prosperity can be enjoyed by the country and its

people.

15. In closing, let us reignite the spirit of patriotism by dedicating our efforts unequivocally in the name

of 1Malaysia. Let us realise a more prosperous and peaceful future for all Malaysians. Let us ensure the

hallowed banner of our Jalur Gemilang flies proud in the eyes of the world. Together, let us pray for this

noble journey to continue, blessed and guided by God.

Wabillahi Taufiq Walhidayah Wassalamualaikum Warahamtullahi Wabarakatuh. Thank You.

Where do you start ?

Perhaps you can consider these few points :-

1.Abolish the ISA.

2.Abolish Bumi Status.(so-called)

3.Practise complete Religious Freedom.

4.Completely revamp the Civil Service and other privatised (piratised ) utilities

On the eve of Independence Day, there was a t.v. movie on national independence. No wonder some

people do not feel Malaysian even though their ancestors probably settled here even before Admiral Hajji

Mahmud Shams of China landed in Malacca way back then. Today, most people have their own personal

independence. To talk seriously about national independence will also lead to the talk of politics. If people feel that Malaysia is their real and actual home, they will do everything to keep this home and

family together. Many Malaysians hold a permanent residence status in other countries. Are these

Malaysians divided in their love for Malaysia ? Worldwide, the political scenario is changing. Malaysians

can get their source of information easily since Malaysia has some of the world‟s latest technologies.

When you experience something different, you have to change in order to accommodate this. Will the

First of all, I would like to convey my congratulation and appreciation to you, YAB Dato' Sri for your

brave move to make 1Malaysia as a way forward for all Malaysians. I am sure racial harmony is still very

much intact and with your administration, I am sure a better sense of patriotism will be instilled. In my

opinion, most demonstrations were from individuals with political reasons or from those who hide behind

Happy and blessed Merdeka Day. God's willing, may we continue to enjoy merdeka in its true spirit

I was too young to know what it was in 1957. All I know is I took part in cultural shows, elocution

contests, big walks and many other contests during my school days. I did all that despite having to help my parents carry drinking water from the public paip (pipe) to our rakit home daily;to collect empty milk

cans behind kopitiams and clean them for my mum's coffee stall(back then, tin cans were for take-away

drink) Life was tough but fun.

My sisters and I were known as Yah, Ti, Nab and Yam by our Malay friends. I knew my Malay friends

and I were different but it did not matter to me. I felt the same when I was in the teacher training college

in the 70's and today as we celebrate 52nd Merdeka Day I still feel the same. Why? Because I love

Malaysia and its warts and all to quote Marc. Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!

A very happy birthday Malaysia, we are 52 years old today. I am 52 years too. I am proud to be part of

the Merdeka history as any other Malaysians except that I am still not being accepted as a bumiputra (son

of the land). I share the same view as the article written by FRUSTRATED MALAYSIAN (Toowong), a

Malaysian residing in Australia on this Independence Day. To be very frank if you, Mr PM would allow

me to comment on your wishes of 1Malaysia vision to succeed, you need to make sure that you walk the

talk. Otherwise it will be just another slogan, "NICE TO SEE, NICE TO HEARS, IN THE END THERE IS NOTHING TO SHARE". My only 52 Merdeka wish to you Mr PM is to be the true hero of a true

Malaysian where by there is no more differentiation of a bumi or non-bumi. We are all truely

MALAYSIANS.

Kamarul Baharin Dato' Ab Rahma: Happy Independence Day

Dear YAB Dato‟ Seri‟ as a born Malaysian with ancestral routes also born Malaysian or Malayan, I

totally agree and support your views and opinion both in spirit and letter. Our fathers being Captain in

Force 136 has gone through great struggles moving through the jungles of Pahang monitoring activities of

rivals in the true spirit of being patriotic to the nation. History has recorded that it is unity amongst our

people of various ethnicity and beliefs that carved the celebrated “MERDEKA” milestone. It was

safeguarded and protected by our security forces from all units Sea, Land and Air.

All Malaysian even visitors must know and respect the ingredients of the nation‟s route to Merdeka.

Politicians of whatever party is obligatory to ensure peace and harmony in this country. All Malaysian

have the unequivocal right to live in peace and harmony; anywhere in this country.

As a Malaysian, I fully support that the Ministry of Home Affairs be given sovereign rights to ensure stability and peaceful coexistence of all in this country. This is the base and start up point to all other

successes, insyaAllah.

The Federal Constitution and Rukun Negara should be the guiding light to all races, all religious beliefs,

all walks of life, whether in rural or urban areas, whether the haves or have-nots, old or young.

ramlan ahmad: ENCIK-Elevating the Nation's Capabilities by embracing IT & Knowledge

YAB, the feeling of patriotism is fast fading away with many as there is a lack of "sense of belonging"

caused by the misdeeds of politicians through the years. Ordinary Malaysians who work hard & are law

abiding are losing out to those who don't even have ability that gain massive wealth "atas angin" from

political connections i.e. PKFZ. Worse these people then squander the wealth & keep asking for more!

Malaysia therefore belongs to politicians & those connected to them. Professionals & intellectuals

especially are asking themselves whether they can take any more of this nonsense & see a longer term

future for themselves & family and many are saying NO! Expect then to see a brain drain happen over the

next few years if BN Govt. does not change fast enough. Forget about the Developed status if there is lack

of talent to drive & make it happen.

Patriotism will return once BN serves the interest of the Rakyat & to YB Shafie Afdal; my hats off to you for your humility & service!

Naim bin Mohamad: Independently Righteous

Congratulations YAB Datuk Seri. Rightly mentioned that everyday of the week, every week of the month

and every month of the year for the next few years, we need to measure our degree of loyalty to our one

and only country Malaysia. Let‟s reward our loyal Malaysians, let‟s banish those few who are always

creating problems and discomfort. When all avenues are created for constructive dialogue, there shouldn't be anyone taking to the streets. These trouble makers should be hanged for being puppets to sow

discontentment and unhappiness. They have to learn to live democratically. The majority had decided, till

the next time we seek for the voters consent, let‟s get on with the work. Let‟s start making Malaysians

happy, solve their problems and make their lives better. We have no time for the minority who wants to

keep governing the country and running it down. The majority wants to be united and to live in peace.

And One Malaysia is the way forward for all Malaysians. MERDEKA.

RAZAK‟S 2009 NATIONAL DAY ADDRESS POSTED IN THE 1MALAYSIA WEBSITE

NATIONAL DAY ADDRESS THEMES

Bismillahirahmannirrahim Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh dan salam

1Malaysia.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Alhamdulillah, firstly let us all give thanks to Allah S.W.T for

His blessings that tomorrow we will celebrate our 52nd

independence day with the theme 1Malaysia People First

Performance Now.

Gratefulness & Hope for the

Future

Fifty two years ago, a group of national patriots led by YTM

Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra al-haj successfully gained this

country its independence after nearly five centuries under

colonial rule. The post-independent period saw the task and

responsibility of determining the direction of this great land

once held by colonists pass into the hands of its native sons.

With a new government bearing limited administrative experience, amidst the still-unabated communist upheavals, a

socio-economic imbalance grew and spread, reinforced by the

multi-ethnicity of a young nation, hence many predicted a

pending demise of Malaya.

Malaysia in the Past

Despite the predictions, we have proven the sceptics wrong. In

the five decades of our independence we have emerged among

the leaders of the developing nations. We became the first

country in the world to defeat the communist uprising and

brought social justice through a sense of equal ownership

within a short period of a mere two generations.

Malaysia in the Present

Ladies and Gentlemen,

What is this secret formula that drives our success? Certainly

and undoubtedly, it is unity amongst our people of various

ethnicity and beliefs, based upon a philosophy that celebrates

diversity as a source of strength, rather than a point of discord

that causes disunity.

National Unity &Identity

Sadly, the passing of time has witnessed the bridge

painstakingly built by our forefathers now shaken by certain

quarters that attempt to disrupt the peace. They have exploited

the fine lines that exist in a multi-ethnic society, be it political,

religious or social in nature, to serve their own warped agenda.

Threats to Malaysia

At this crossroads, the biggest challenge facing Malaysians is

to restore this bridge and demolish the walls that separate us. At its core, we must continue to manage success, building upon

what we have achieved by cultivating the principles we have

long nurtured. Let us remember that what we now enjoy might

not become better, instead it could deteriorate if neglected.

The proof is in the world‟s history, where success poorly

I am 52 years too. I am proud to be part of the Merdeka history as

To be very frank if you, Mr PM would allow me to comment on

THE MALAYSIAN PRIME MINISTER, YAB DATO‟ SRI MOHD NAJIB BIN TUN ABDUL

RAZAK‟S 2009 NATIONAL DAY ADDRESS POSTED IN THE 1MALAYSIA WEBSITE

Bismillahirahmannirrahim Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh dan salam 1Malaysia. Ladies

and Gentlemen,

S1 Alhamdulillah, firstly let us all give thanks to Allah S.W.T for His blessings that tomorrow we

will celebrate our 52nd independence day with the theme 1Malaysia People First Performance

Now.

S2 Fifty two years ago, a group of national patriots led by YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra al-haj

successfully gained this country its independence after nearly five centuries under colonial rule.

S3a The post-independent period saw the task and responsibility of determining the direction of this

great land once held by colonists

S3b pass into the hands of its native sons.

S4a With a new government bearing limited administrative experience, amidst the still-unabated communist upheavals, a socio-economic imbalance grew and spread,

S4b reinforced by the multi-ethnicity of a young nation,

S4c hence many predicted a pending demise of Malaya.

S5 Despite the predictions, we have proven the sceptics wrong.

S6 In the five decades of our independence we have emerged among the leaders of the developing

nations.

S7a We became the first country in the world to defeat the communist uprising

S7b and brought social justice through a sense of equal ownership within a short period of a mere two

generations.

S8 Ladies and Gentlemen, what is this secret formula that drives our success?

S9 Certainly and undoubtedly, it is unity amongst our people of various ethnicity and beliefs, based

upon a philosophy that celebrates diversity as a source of strength, rather than a point of discord

that causes disunity.

S10 Sadly, the passing of time has witnessed the bridge painstakingly built by our forefathers now

shaken by certain quarters that attempt to disrupt the peace.

S11 They have exploited the fine lines that exist in a multi-ethnic society, be it political, religious or

social in nature, to serve their own warped agenda.

S12a At this crossroads, the biggest challenge facing Malaysians is to restore this bridge

S12b and demolish the walls that separate us.

S13a At its core, we must continue to manage success,

S13b building upon what we have achieved by cultivating the principles we have long nurtured.

S14 Let us remember that what we now enjoy might not become better, instead it could deteriorate if

neglected.

S15 The proof is in the world‟s history, where success poorly managed ends in failure.

S16 It is true that success does not come easy.

S17 Hence, I must remind everyone especially the younger generation that the good fortune we enjoy

today did not come without careful planning, efficient implementation and great sacrifice.

S18 This success is the result of the great struggles, blood, sweat and tears of our heroes whether

sung of or not.

S19 It was built by our ancestors.

S20 It was defended by our security forces who were ready to give up their lives.

S21 It was nurtured by scholars and educators who strove regularly in classrooms and lecture halls.

S22 It was enhanced by heroes of the private sector, corporate heroes, hawkers and small

entrepreneurs who tirelessly worked for prosperity.

S23 Finally, it was catalysed by the dedicated public servants.

S24 Clearly, the success and prosperity of Malaysia all this while grew and developed out of the

contribution and support of people of all races, all religious beliefs, all walks of life, whether in

rural or urban areas, whether the haves or have-nots, old or young.

S25 Therefore, I wish to reaffirm that every one of us is given equal opportunity under the Malaysian sky.

131

S26 The only barrier to our individual achievement is the will to succeed, the willingness to work

hard, and the courage to take risks.

S27 Ladies and Gentlemen, above all else, for over five decades Malaysia has faced numerous

milestones.

S28 All of them were met for better or for worse with a united spirit.

S29 Beginning from the bitter chapter of the Bintang Tiga brutality, the monumental need to create

meaning to our independence which was gained without bloodshed, through socioeconomic bias,

ethnic discord on 13 May ‟69, the economic downturn of the 80s and the Asian economic crisis

at the end of the 90s.

S30a All of these were confronted

S30b and all of these we survived.

S31 Clearly regardless of our achievements, we cannot afford to rest upon our laurels without striving

for more success.

S32 With that in mind, in order to ensure a better tomorrow the government has introduced more

effective policies that will propel us forward towards becoming a developed nation.

S33 At the beginning of my administration I had initiated the 1Malaysia concept based upon the

Federal Constitution and Rukun Negara as the foundation for the government‟s goals.

S34a We do not stop at setting a mission statement,

S34b instead we have constructed concrete initiatives.

S35a Starting with efforts to overhaul the public service delivery system, promoting the public welfare

agenda as a government priority leads to efforts to stimulate the national economy

S35b so that continuous prosperity can be enjoyed by the country and its people.

S36 In closing, let us reignite the spirit of patriotism by dedicating our efforts unequivocally in the

name of 1Malaysia.

S37 Let us realise a more prosperous and peaceful future for all Malaysians.

S38 Let us ensure the hallowed banner of our Jalur Gemilang flies proud in the eyes of the world.

S39 Together, let us pray for this noble journey to continue, blessed and guided by God.

Wabillahi Taufiq Walhidayah Wassalamualaikum Warahamtullahi Wabarakatuh. Thank You.

C1S1a Past leaders have made a mess of this country

C1S1b and turned it into a huge Jamban.

C1S2a And now everyone is talking

C1S2b and shouting about 1Malaysia.

C1S3a As is always the case – a lot of slogans

C1S3b but no Blue Print and Action.

C1S4 Nobody in the 18 million odd population has the guts to ask for

the Blue Print to bring about 1Malaysia.

C1S5a It is a beautiful concept

C1S5b but are the leaders sincere to make it happen?

C1S6 Where do you start ?

C1S7 Perhaps you can consider these few points :-

C1S8 1. Abolish the ISA.

C1S9 2. Abolish Bumi Status.(so-called)

C1S10 3. Practise complete Religious Freedom.

C1S11 4. Completely revamp the Civil Service and other privatised (piratised ) utilities

like TNB,TM,PETRONAS,POS MALAYSIA etc.

C1S12 5. Use English as the medium of instruction in schools

C1S13 6. STOP changing policies every 3 or 5 years. C1S14 7. Leaders of Islam be non-obtrusive in their zest to practise the religion.

C1S15 8. Above all Have only 1Legal System for 1Malaysia.

C1S16 If you can't do these for a start don't hope for 1Malaysia to happen.

C3S8 Why should I be excited anymore?

C3S9 Is there a reason?

C3S10a Maybe there is for some of you.

C3S10b but to be honest there is no reason for me to be excited

C3S10c and it‟s a shame.

C3S11 Its even hard to see flags around this time..

C3S12 There‟s no spirit in our lovely nation anymore

C3S13 What‟s happening to our lovely country…?

C3S14a It‟s like no one has the semangat to celebrate anymore..

C5S1 On the eve of Independence Day, there was a t.v. movie on national independence.

C5S2a No wonder some people do not feel Malaysian

C5S2b even though their ancestors probably settled here even before Admiral Hajji Mahmud Shams of China landed in Malacca way back then.

C5S3 Today, most people have their own personal independence.

C5S4 To talk seriously about national independence will also lead to the talk of politics.

C5S5 If people feel that Malaysia is their real and actual home, they will do everything to keep this

home and family together.

C5S6 Many Malaysians hold a permanent residence status in other countries.

C5S7 Are these Malaysians divided in their love for Malaysia ?

C5S8 Worldwide, the political scenario is changing.

C5S9a Malaysians can get their source of information easily since Malaysia has some of the world‟s

C5S10 When you experience something different, you have to change in order to accommodate this.
