Laurier-Greenway Compromise, 1897

Prime Minister Laurier and Premier Greenway worked together towards a compromise.

Manitoba Schools Act, 1897 Single public school system

If enough Catholic students, Catholic teacher could be hired

Teachers don’t provide religious instruction- has to be priest and not all students required to attend

Bilingual- if enough students spoke another language, instruction could be provided in that language.
