I 1-1s

The map below shows a portion of the Palatinate where many of the families of Mennonite refuJ?ees from Switzerland had settled.

There were Holls in Wolfsheim, very likely related to the Holls of this study. A Hans Witwer and his family were recorded in a 1671 census taken by Minister Valentine Hutwole of Mennonites living in the Dirmstein district of the Pfalz. It is possible that this Hans Witwer was the father of Hans Witwer" early immigrant to Lancaster County, PA.

The Witwers were noted as living in Wagebach. The only current location found for Wagebach was a area by Wagh~usel southeast of Speyer. It had been the site of an early fortified Roman town. It seems unlikely this was the home of the Witwers. Probably Wagebach was comprised of a group of small farms nearer Dirmstein. l. M..

WARRANTS, SURVEYS and PA TENTS

The following is a copy of the redraft made 1 November 1898 of the resurvey of a tract originally warranted to Hans Widower (Witwer] for 540A plus allowances in Earl Town (now New Holland), Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. This tract is designated as A-46-235 on the warrant map for Earl Township. As per Hans Witwer's will (A:l:66) probated 12 March 1741/2, Hans had some sort of agreement with his son-in-law Wendel Holl concerning this land which he instructed his executors to honor after his death. On 20 April 1749 Wendel Holl had the tract resurveyed and on 25 April 1749 obtained a patent for it.

The negative copy is of the original redraft of the resurvey executed in April, 1749. For the relative location of the tract, see the partial Warrant Map of Earl Towp.ship. Source of both documents and the warrant map is the Pennsylvania Archives, Land Division, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
